The Mass with Christmas hymns, Missa carminum is available from Carus in a orchestra version and in a version for choir and organ. The unique feature of this work is that each movement of the Ordinary employs a well-known Christmas hymn as an instrumental cantus firmus. In the score the text of each hymn has been included in the appropriate passage, so that the Christmas signature tune may be performed vocally, for example, by a one-part children's choir. Score and part available separately - see item CA.9193300.

Its musical variety is key to the appeal of the Missa brevis. From a fughetta in the Kyrie to the quartal harmonies of the Gloria with its dialog between soloists and chorus to the rhythmically striking passages in the Sanctus there is everything an experienced choir could wish for. The final Agnus Dei gloriously presents both soloists and the choir with a compelling and dramatic call for peace. Festivly supported by the brass and the organ, the Missa brevis is an exciting and rewarding piece for the choral repertoire. Score available separately - see item CA.1080400.

In addition to the Requiem, the Missa Dalmatica, which was first composed in 1835 and revised in 1876, offers further proof of the remarkable sacred music composed by the famous composer of operettas, Franz von Suppe. He dedicated the Mass to his Dalmatian homeland. In this Mass for three-voiced men's choir and organ, which in his unmistakable personal style combined the most varied influences of the tradition of church music, Italian and German opera, as well as the folk idioms of Vienna and Dalmatia, Suppe created an attractive and unique work which has earned a special place in the history of 19th century church music. When Joseph Haydn assumed the position as music director of the Court of Esterhazy in 1766, following the death of his predecessor, Gregor Joseph Werner, he began by composing his first and most extensive Missa solemnis. The title Missa Cellensis (later also known as the Cecilian Mass) and the date of an autograph score suggest that this work was probably commissioned by Prince Nicolaus Esterhazy for the 600th anniversary of the pilgrimage church Mariazell located in Styria. With regard to the scoring as well as form, this Mass is still in the tradition of the late baroque number mass. In contrast to previous mixed versions based on various sources, the new edition follows the authentic (original) version using the most reliable sources. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4060400.

Particularly during the early 1740s, Johann Sebastian Bach concentrated intensely on studying the compositional technique of strict vocal polyphony. As an inspiration, he studied the works of older masters, copying them and, for the most part, performing them as well. A set of single parts for the Missa canonica by Francesco Gasparini in an instrumentation by Bach were recently discovered in the collection of the former Ephoralbibliothek Weissenfels; some of the parts are in Bach's own handwriting. Gasparini was esteemed in Germany particularly as a master of elaborate counterpoint and audacious harmonic writing. Bach amended the music text with a view to certain aspects of performance practice, clearly following a very specific concept of sound organization. His interest in strict counterpoint was paralleled by a tangible re-orientation in Bach's own compositional technique at the beginning of the 1740s. Francesco Gasparini's Missa canonica therefore served as a practical model for the highly developed art of canon writing and the strict polyphony in Bach's late works, as we encounter them, for example, in the B minor Mass.

Commissioned for the 2017 Montréal Organ Festival, Concordia Salus: A Fantasy for Organ received its name from the motto of the city of Montréal, of which the Latin component translates as salvation through harmony. The work divides roughly into 3 sections. The first section introduces two main contrasting themes. The second section develops the main material through a series of gestures that have an improvisatory feeling--something akin to an extended cadenza. The final section of the piece recapitulates the primary thematic material through bold, triumphant, and fanfare-like statements, culminating in a tipple forte, full organ sound.Organ Duration: 8' Composed: 2017 Published by: Distributed Composer.

With his organ symphonies, the composer Enjott Schneider (born 1950) from Munich has been a profound sensation in recent years and seen world premieres at major European organ events. The Organ Symphony No. 6 'Te Deum' (premiered at Bruckner's St. Florian above Bruckner's tomb in 2008 and recorded there on CD) adopts the five-part structure and several motifs from Bruckner's 'Te Deum', thus becoming a forceful compact work pervaded by the Gotteslob. 1: 'Te Deum' is based on Bruckner's original figuration of fifths and eighths which is connected with the Latin Te Deum; 2: 'Te Ergo' is a 'preghiera' with pleading and praying gestures; 3: 'Aeterna fac' is an extremely virtuoso perpetuum mobile; 4: 'Salvum Fac' a basso ostinato and finally 5: 'In te, Domine speravi' a toccata which, after taking many detours, inevitably leads to the C major.
