Commissioned by the Oregon Symphonic Band in Portland, Bridge of the Gods is a dramatic three-movement symphonic poem presenting the colorful legend told by the Native American Klickitatst about the origins of the volcanic mountains of the Cascade range and legendary bridge. The first movement “Saghalie” pays tribute to the powerful chief of all gods and is based on a majestic fanfare theme. The 2nd movement captures the beauty of the maiden “Loowit” with haunting flute and english horns solos accompanied by soft chanting voices. The final movement “Tanmahawis” utilizes stark clusters, jagged melodic fragments and rhythmic percussive energy as it depicts the destruction of the mighty bridge. Duration: 8:50Recorded by the Oregon Symphonic Band – Michael Burch-Pesses, conductor

A sweeping theme forms the basis of this inspirational paean of praise. The text is a series of descriptions declaring the divine attributes of God. As majestic as its noble thematic gesture, the music grows gradually until a magnificent final exclamation displays with confidence the phrase God of glory. An orchestral-like piano part builds a solid sonority as triplets drive the anthem forward with vigor and unrelenting confidence.

A simple melody that is easily absorbed appears unadorned, recounting the promises of God in the gospels. The second verse develops harmonically with parallel chords to sweep the listener up, while the bridge is a powerhouse of strong, traditional choral strength. Unapologetically Christ-centered, the message of the text is delivered clearly by the music with hymn-like dignity. Epic! Score and Parts (rhy, vn 1-2, va, vc, db) available as a digital download.

Uses: General, Ascension, Christ the King, EastertideScripture: Psalm 47The poetic imagery of this Psalm makes it usable not only as a general anthem but also for Ascension, Eastertide or Christ the King Sunday. The festive brass and percussion parts added to the organ make this an anthem of great impact. Mixed meter sections dance with more lyric passages as the anthem develops, and a very special “wall of sound” section is an outstanding moment of choral virtuosity. We are proud to now offer this proven winner for men's voices! Score and Parts (tpt 1-2, hn, tbn, tba, timp) available as a Printed Edition.

The Belgian composer Nicholas Lens presents extremely varied etudes, exercises and simple phrases with wonderfully telling titles from poetry and everyday world for children and adults. For the most part the studies are tonal and simple and have no constructed line. They are not based on any educational concept but leave the musical dramatization to the pupils and teachers: 'Notes and rhythms are just notes and rhythms, they do not have that many rules, they do not have any pretension, they are just tools for you to use to express what you want to share'.

This cycle contains Aller Augen warten auf dich, Herre SWV 429, one of the composer's most popular vocal works. The twelve four-part motet-style settings published in 1657 demonstrate all the attributes of his mature style, using simple homophonic settings as effectively as demanding polyphony. They represent something of a counterpart to the 1648 Geistliche Chormusik, but here, Schutz paid greater attention to practical use in church services and to the training of the Dresden choirboys.

The cantata Nun danket alle Gott (Now thank we all our God) BWV 192 is based on the text of the well-known hymn. It is therefore one of a small number of chorale cantatas which contain no free poetic texts. Correspondingly, there are no recitatives either. It has only recently been assumed that this three-movement work was not intended for Leipzig, but was actually written in 1730 for Bach's prestigious position as Kapellmeister of Saxe-Weissenfels. The court of Duke Christian enjoyed the its sojourn in the newly-renovated castle of its secondary residence in Sangerhausen and, at Trinity, in the court church, celebrated the anniversary of its consecration with festive music. Bach evidently occasionally contributed to this. The work does not survive complete. Even in the 18th century a full score evidently no longer existed, just a set of parts, the tenor part of which is entirely missing. For the new edition the missing part has been reconstructed by Detlev Schulten (Leipzig). Score and part available separately - see item CA.3119200.
