'There, There' (subtitled 'The Boney King of Nowhere) was recorded on Radiohead's 2003 album Hail to the Thief. James Miley's sublime and highly accessible arrangement re-imagines the melodic, harmonic, and structural components of the original, showcasing tenor saxophone and trumpet improvisations amidst beautiful ensemble scoring. 5-4-4-5.

Every band from Tommy Dorsey to the Tonight Show Band to Ted Heath seemed to have a version of this great Sy Oliver tune. Bob Curnow compiled some of those versions into one great, new arrangement. It features, of course, the trumpet section (Bob wrote it for an optional 5-player section) and two improvised trumpet solos. The swing band feel is very much a part of this chart which culminates in an ending that will knock your socks off. Your audiences will LOVE this one. 5-5-4-4.

The Count Basie Orchestra performed the music of Billy Byers for many, many years. His arrangement of Come Fly With Me is recorded on the Basie album Frankly Basie: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra. Set in an up-tempo swing feel, Byers hits it hard from bar 1 and doesn't let up until the end of the chart. The interplay between saxophones and brass is clever and energetic, while the full ensemble writing is classic Basie sound at its finest. There is solo space for tenor saxophone, with fantastic ensemble backgrounds throughout much of it. No jazz library is complete without this classic Count Basie chart! 5-4-4-4.

This is, unquestionably, one of the most beautiful ballads ever written. And this arrangement really takes advantage of the richness of the Kenton Sound. This chart captures that wonderful feeling of warmth and power without high trumpet parts or extra demanding dynamics. A great choice for festivals.
