The message of Slow Down, Moses! for unaccompanied SATB is that, rushed off our feet in the bustle of the world, we must make time to hear the voice of the spirit. The words are a short, highly entertaining paraphrase of a text from Exodus. A light-hearted setting of a serious message, the music contains ample scope for humorous exaggeration, and should prove a hit with audiences and singers alike.

The lyrics to Der Mond ist aufgegangen (The Moon Is Risen) come from Matthias Claudius, one of Germany’s best-known poets. The 1779 poem with the original title Abendlied (Evening song) was set to music by Johann Abraham Peter Schulz and has become perhaps the most famous Abendlied in the German-speaking world. Johann de Haan has created a delightful arrangement of this poignant melody. The wind orchestra can optionally be accompanied by a choir (Dutch and German texts are provided).De tekst van het lied Der Mond ist aufgegangen is van de hand van Matthias Claudius, een bekende Duitse dichter. The Christmas cantata Gloria in excelsis Deo BWV 191, which has always presented researchers with many challenging problems, is among the few works to Latin words set by Johann Sebastian Bach. It consists of three sections - a finely-woven duet flanked by two festive choral movements - which we are to encounter again almost note for note in the world-famous Mass in B minor. â??Tonight I Dance Aloneâ? for double choir a cappella consists of three poignant episodes from the life of an old man. We encounter him before his wedding, before celebrating his wedding anniversary and now as an elderly widower who says to his grandson:â??Soon we will dance in the God-light, My love and I. Soon will the moon be ours again, And the endless shining stars In the halls of heaven. Soon, my love, very soon; But tonight, one last time, Tonight I dance alone.â?The libretto and the descriptive music are deeply moving and constitute an ideal partnership. This is MÃ¥rten Jansson's first collaboration with the well-known librettist Charles Anthony Silvestri. The piece provides a well-worth challenge for ambitious choirs. It was world-premiered by the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus under the baton of Philip Barnes on 1 October 2017 in Saint Louis, MO (USA)The performance can be viewed on YouTube

The exuberant amorousness of a newly-wed couple pulsates in every note of Gabriel Faure's Dans les ruines d'une abbaye (In the ruins of an abbey). In this piece, the reverent silence of prayer no longer prevails, but within the venerable walls various shouts of joy and sparkling laughter are now heard. The old graves have long been overgrown by stinging nettles, and a new dawn of spring and of love fills the air. Napoleonic post-revolutionary France, which drove the author of the poem, Victor Hugo, into exile, is also building a new world on the ruins of olden days. Although the setting by the composer, 40 years younger than the poet, uses the romanticized backdrop of the old abbey, with its 6/8-meter it reflects the uninhibited happiness of the two lovers, who do not look back. These art songs were originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted them to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing the any of the qualities of the original in the process. Each part in the choir has a melodic line drawn from the harmonic and rhythmic framework. In the process, the variety and refinement of the choral language combines with an enormous flexibility in form and expression, as French melodies or German art song demand from a soloist and pianist. The songs have been recorded by the figure humaine chamber choir on the CD Kennst du das Land ... (Carus 83.495).

This stunning composition uses the idea of the Igbo word Amara which means grace. The idea of this work is to breathe together - to be aware of others and how we fit together in this world. Highly artistic, moving, and quite challenging. The addition of an improvised saxophone adds an even greater level of artistry. Recording Choir: Missouri State University Chorale, Cameron F. In Au bord de l'eau (By the water) two lovers sit as in a dream, removed from the real world with all its conflicts. They only take themselves seriously, the surrounding nature lies as beneath a dream-like veil: steadily like the river flowing by, the passing clouds, the babbling brook, time also passes. The poet Sully Prudhomme, the first Nobel prizewinner for literature (1901), ends the poem with the assertion that only love is immortal. With this knowledge, Gabriel Faure's setting turns from a dreamy, deceptive C sharp minor to a more promising C sharp major. These art songs were originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano.
