It remains uncertain why Sibelius wrote another version of the work with German text only for voice and string orchestra around the same time. As far as is known this latter version has never been performed before its first publication in the volume of the complete edition Jean Sibelius Works in 2003.
Nearly all of the orchestral arrangements were made years after the original compositions for voice and piano. Yet even though the arrangements were made in a very short period of time Sibelius handled the combination of solo voice and orchestra in all songs with equal mastery sometimes creating dark and dramatic atmospheres (in Pa verandan vid havet) sometimes radiant colorful impressions (in Soluppgang) or light-colored transparent textures (in Varen flyktar hastigt) and always basing his ideas on the poetic idea of the song while discovering refined ways of supporting it. In most cases Sibelius used a comparatively small orchestra: Varen flyktar hastigt has only two flute and four horns added to the strings. $7.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Thomas Moore (17791852) was an Irish poet, singer, songwriter and entertainer. In his poem, On Music, Moore emphasizes the power that music has in our lives and the ability it has to evoke memories and feelings from the past. Music transcends that which can be spoken or felt. The beauty of making music together is to establish meaningful connections with others and to share a common language through song. We are reminded, however, that relationships with each other can be fluid or unstable, but as the words of the poem remind us, music will not betray. No matter the experiences that we face, the relationships that we foster, or the memories that we create, music will always be there for us in times of need and in times of celebration. What does music mean to you? How does it enrich your life? On Music Thomas Moore When through life unblest we rove, Losing all that made life dear, Should some notes we used to love, In days of boyhood, meet our ear, Oh! how welcome breathes the strain! Wakening thoughts that long have slept, Kindling former smiles again In faded eyes that long have wept. Like the gale, that sighs along Beds of oriental flowers, Is the grateful breath of song, That once was heard in happier hours. Filld with balm the gale sighs on, Though the flowers have sunk in death; So, when pleasures dream is gone, Its memory lives in Musics breath. Music, oh, how faint, how weak, Language fades before thy spell! Why should Feeling ever speak, When thou canst breathe her soul so well? Friendships balmy words may feign, Loves are even more false than they; Oh! tis only musics strain Can sweetly soothe, and not betray. Note to the performer: Liberty can be taken with the tempo markings and rubato should be used throughout in order to further stress the beauty and significance of the text. With its vocal-like descant, the flute should be treated as an additional voice rather than mere accompaniment to enhance the texture of the piece. String orchestra SKU: M2.MOS-40033 Mit Adagio und Fuge c-Moll. Com...(+)
String orchestra SKU: M2.MOS-40033 Mit Adagio und Fuge c-Moll. Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Corona - Werkreihe fur Kammerorchester. Score. 30 pages. Möseler Verlag #MOS 40033. Published by Möseler Verlag (M2.MOS-40033). ISBN 9790203740339. $22.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Choral - very easy to intermediate SKU: HL.49033174 Geistliche Lieder fur die verschiedenen Anlasse des Kirchenjahres, Gospels und Spirituals fur Frauen. Edited by Klaus Heizmann. This edition: Paperback/Soft Cover. Sheet music. Edition Schott. German. Choral Score. 128 pages. Schott Music #ED 9574. Published by Schott Music (HL.49033174). ISBN 9783896153166. Viele Lieder sind a cappella singbar. $24.99 - See more - Buy online

Programme note: The piece is dedicated to Hans Werner Henze, from whose request the piece arose. The music unfolds in a space, in which the memory of the earlier music has the same reality as the music of today. But the music of the memory is naturally distant and vague, whereas the music of today is present and gesticulated. In the opening section the past and the present are clearly separated, but during the piece, this balance is lifted, as the music of the past (trumpet signals, Sicilian melodicity, romantic Pathos, strawinskian neo-classicism) in a dynamic and often dramatic surrealistic play with minimalism and modernism oftoday is unravelled. Orchestration: 2.2.2.2/2.3.0.0/5perc/pf/str. Parts are for hire: hire@ewh.dk. $51.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
