The present piece is a wind trio reduction of my ensemble piece In Time Entwined, In Space Enlaced (2008), which was in turn an expansion of an original trio for bass flute, cor anglais and viola. Throughout the piece, the three instruments find themselves entangled in various contrapuntal and heterophonic webs. Though their individual identities are generally distinct -- by virtue of their timbral differences -- they seek to blur their boundaries, forging relationships through shared material as they attempt to merge with one another. I was inspired by the surreal expression of love in David Gascoyne's poem Antennae:The timeless sleepers tangled in the bedIn the midst of the sonorous island, aloneThe tongue between the teethThe river between the sandsLove in my hand like laceYour hand enlaced with mine.(Christian Mason, 2012)

Martin Amlin’s first recital work for Trumpet and Piano brings all the iridescent excitement that has intrigued other performers. Composed for his renowned colleague Terry Everson, Amlin’s sonata pours new wine into old bottles with its three movements titled: 1. Invention, 2. Chaconne, and 3. Moto Perpetuo. The publication provides solo parts for both C and E-flat Trumpet. Composer and pianist Martin Amlin has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Tanglewood Music Center, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Massachusetts Artists Foundation, St. Botolph Club Foundation, and the Massachusetts Council for the Arts. He was a recipient of an ASCAP Grant to Young Composers and has received many ASCAPlus Awards. He has been a resident at Yaddo, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the MacDowell Colony, where he was named a Norlin Fellow.Much of Amlin’s music is characterized by a pungent tonality and energetic rhythms. His Sonata for Piccolo and Piano and Sonata No. 2 for Flute and Piano both won the National Flute Association’s Newly Published Music Competition. Concerto for Piccolo and Orchestra was premiered by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra,and he has had performances of his music by the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver Chorale, Back Bay Chorale, Webster Trio, and the American Vocal Arts Quintet. He has had commissions from the Seattle Flute Society, Pacific Serenades, the Chicago Flute Club, ALEA III, the James Pappoutsakis memorial flute competition, pianist Andrew Willis, and clarinetist Michael Webster.Martin Amlin is Chairman of the Department of Composition and Theory at Boston University and Director of the Young Artists Composition Program at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. He is also recipient of Boston University’s Kahn Award for his Piano Sonata No. 7. He studied with Nadia Boulanger at the Ecoles d’Art Américaines in Fontainebleau and the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, and received masters and doctoral degrees as well as the Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. Mr. Amlin has appeared as soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra in performances of Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and has performed on the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Prelude concerts at both Symphony Hall and Tanglewood. He has also appeared on the FleetBoston Celebrity Series and been pianist for the M.I.T. Experimental Music Studio and the New England Ragtime Ensemble. My Cyprus Wedding Song is a gift to both a married couple and to a new piano that was kindly donated to the Brixworth Music Festival by the wife of this couple. The husband - who is sadly no longer with us - came from the Greek part of Cyprus, and it seemed appropriate to write a love song for these two generous people. I found this Cyprus Wedding Song in a book of folk songs from around the world. Apparently it is very well known in Cyprus.

Since 2010 Sam is full time drummer in the Royal Band of the Belgian Navy. As a freelance musician he played with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium, Symphonic Factory and many more. In these orchestras some famous conductors crossed his path: f.i. Takuo Yuasa (Jap), Jaap Van Zweden (Ned) and Pincchas Steinberg (Ger). In many performances at the Night of the Proms with Il Novecento, he accompanied world famous artists like Donna Summer, Mike Oldfield, Ike Turner and Macy Gray. As freelance drummer/percussion player he worked on several musical shows as Evita, Elisabeth, Joseph and the amazing tecnicolour dreamcoat, Oliver!, Fiddler on the roof, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz,... Performing all these plays and concerts, he came across the whole wide world. Sam teaches percussion and ensemble at the Conservatory of Mechelen, Belgium. He is founder of the trio Percussive, which is now one the leading percussion groups, touring in the Belgian theatres. Sam made a serie of short percussion videos which were broadcasted many times on national television, and which are still popular on social media. For one of these movies he was granted with 2 awards at the Corporate Video Festival. As a composer Sam wrote many educational pieces, a lot of songs for Percussive, some large compositions for percussion ensemble and 6 musicals/mass productions as King Albert 1, Marie-Antoinette, Gheelamania 2010 & 2015 and Mol-in-scene. These mass productions were visited by more then 90000 people. Sam's piece Frozen planet was the mandatory work voor the ONSK percussion ensemble contest 2016, in the highest level.
