Trilogy on B-A-C-H (2017) uses as its musical material a familiar four-note theme: the letters B-A-C-H (the last name of Johann Sebastian Bach) treated as a musical motive: B-flat, A, C, B-natural (H in German note naming). Starting with Bach himself, this theme has been used by a truly enormous number of composers over the centuries. Most B-A-C-H themed works (at least those for organ), tend to be extremely contrapuntal, likely taking their cue from much of Bach's own organ music. This piece explicitly goes in the other direction and use the theme primarily motivically/melodically and as a generating force for the kind of mixed modality that is typical of Cooman's music. The first movement is an energetic march. The second movement is a lyric meditation containing both an arioso and a short quasi-passacaglia, in which the B-A-C-H motive repeats slowly in the pedals. The last movement is a free fantasia: the motive appears both in chorale-like long notes and as a fast, turning figure. Instrumentation: Organ Duration: 12' Composed: 2017 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Radegund Variations (2017) was written for and is dedicated to Hartmut Siebmanns, cantor and organist in Possneck, in the Thuringia region of Germany. This work was inspired by the life of Radegund (ca. 520-587), who was a Thuringian princess (and later Frankish queen) most famous for founding the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Poitiers, France. The piece begins with an original theme: its contemporary view of ancient modality represents looking back from the present time into Radegund's era. The theme is followed by six contrasting variations, inspiration for which are drawn from events in Radegund's life: her marriage and joining the Frankish court (1st variation); her flight from the court (after the murder of her brother) to seek protection from the church (2nd variation); her devotion to the needy (3rd variation); her friendship with the poet Venantius Fortunatus and her commissioning of his sacred poem Vexilla Regis (4th variation); her gifts of healing (5th variation); and the building of the abbey (6th variation). Each organ symphony by Enjott Schneider has its own colour and its own theme. Organ Symphony No. 7 'Von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit' is dominated by the theme of 'time': from the flowing rumbling of time in ancient beginnings ('In principio' - 1st movement) and periodic to the intellectually incomprehensible revolving ('Zeit der Sterne' - 2nd movement). After the third movement ('Zeit des Menschen'), a valse triste, infused by an almost humorous hectic atmosphere, the symphony ends with a kind of 'Amen!' in the fourth movement. Schneider sums it up: 'It is good as it is, we do not understand the course of time anyway.' With regard to style, his composition is based on elements of minimal music which he combines with the tradition of the European organ composition; it is at the same time a testimony to the composer's flexibility and versatility.

Three Sound-Poems after Paintings by Andreas Willscher (2017) are dedicated to organist Philip Hartmann and the art-loving community of the Pauluskirche in Ulm, Germany. The music is inspired by three paintings by German composer (and artist) Andreas Willscher (b. 1955). The pieces take their musical shapes and colors from the specific details of the paintings. The three paintings represent different styles: a landscape, a religious theme, and an abstract. The first movement, Sonnenfeld (Sun Field), is inspired by a bright painting of the sun illuminating the green field behind the composer's small house in Sainte-Radegonde (Dordogne/Perigord, France). A resplendent and majestic section of full sun harmonies surrounds a middle section with more motion. The second movement, Gebet des Hl. Franziskus (Prayer of St. Francis), is inspired by a painting showing St. Francis of Assisi in prayer. Francis has been a frequent theme in Willscher's music since his appointment at a young age as organist of St. Francis Church in Hamburg. The third movement, Laetare (Rejoice), is inspired by an vibrant abstract painting comprised of bold colors. The alternation of the blocks of rich color are mirrored in the block harmonic shifts in the movement, which is a moto perpetuo, building towards the organ's fullest sounds. Instrumentation: Organ Duration: 11' Composed: 2017 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Suite circulaire (2018) for organ is dedicated to Elisa Williams Bickers. The music takes a free, contemporary approach to the historical genre of circulating (or modulating) compositions, where the basic material moves through a variety of keys before returning home again. The goal is not simply to play a modulation game, but rather to construct a true musical discourse where the varied keys are an essential part of the concept. The first movement, Praeludium, is bright in character. Besides moving through varied keys, the movement is also animated with various looping patterns that provide another link to the circulating concept. The second movement, Ricercare, takes its content very literally from the title, which means to search out. Instead of being a proto-fugue, like many ricercares from the late Renaissance or early Baroque, the music searches through the keys by means of a wandering melody and a modulating accompaniment. The third movement, Toccata, is slightly manic in character. The syncopated theme heard at the start animates the movement as it moves through both tonal, modal, and bitonal/modal harmonies before reaching an excited conclusion. (When the suite is performed on an organ tuned in an unequal, circulating temperament, there is an additional circular effect provided by the quite varied key colors that are heard as the material moves through them.)Organ Duration: 14’ Composed: 2018 Published by: Zimbel Press.

As a counterpart to theOrgan Symphony No. 1 Pater Noster (ED 9937), the Organ Symphony No. 2 offers softer and more mysterious (Marian) sound worlds, sketching stages of Mary's life: an adoring Salve Regina grows from the mystic source, followed by Berceuse pour Marie as a lullaby of the Christmas events. The third movement Mater Dolorosa falls back on the well-known Gregorian sequence Stabat Mater, taking Mary's pain at the cross as its central theme. The finale treats the Ave Maris Stella in a crescendo from pp to ff in a positive and solemn manner, in memory of Mary's assumption. It is advisable to use an organ with at least three manuals.

This work's four movements were inspired by the four Ariel poems of T.S. Eliot. The poems are entitled Journey of the Magi, A Song for Simeon, Animula, and Marina. Colorful organ registrations, late twentieth-century musical language and references to other organ works and chant melodies are employed in this musical representation of Eliot's poetry. The poems mark, in part, Eliot's conversion experience to orthodox Christianity. The spiritual theme of T.S. Eliot Impressions is that of a journey from darkness to light and from despair to hope. A tour-de-force concert calibre work of some twenty minutes in length. Detailed notes by the composer are included in the publication and are critical to the understanding and appreciation of this extended work.

Sunrise was composed in August 2016 from a concert improvisation. The work is structured as a great crescendo. Although the title refers to the image of a sunrise, the music was not primarily conceived as program music. In one layer of the composition, motoric groups of motifs increasingly condense, beginning in a high register and constantly changing, whilst in a second layer a calm thematic idea is intensified and expanded in barely noticeable alterations. As well as the seamless crescendo from pianissimo to fortissimo, the work uses precisely-notated registrations of color, especially for parts where the chorale-like theme is written in chords in the middle and low registers. The resulting moments of luminescence are emphasized even more through a harmony with bitonally layered major chords. This work is also available on CD (Carus 83.485).

Though the work bearing this title is a portrait of childhood, it is a childhood quite different from the purely gameplaying and dreamlike childhood that is customarily represented. The childhood described here is carrying the seed, in all its purity, of all positive and negative qualities to be found the fully-grown men: a childhood both angelic and diabolical, and indeed very close to Henry James' The Turn of the Screw which was the direct inspiration for this monodrama. Its growth follows the innumerable sudden changes, turns and contrasts of the unsophisticated spirit. There is hardly any development at all, as each idea gives birth to the next or rejects the previons one, being object to every impulse, every tempest, every flux, every fear and delight. After a dreamlike introduction, in which two simple melodies stand out, comes a sudden awakening, Allegro, stamped all over with lavish and forever regenerating dynamism. A sudden halt leads a kind of outburst from the most simple folklore is singing, in regular, repeated notes. Again the question mark leads us to another melody, Tranquillo, of a sweet tempo, but brilliantly decorated with counter-point, its cursive traits leading this time to a kind of roguish march (Vigoroso).Yet soon there emerges a melancholic chant, Largo, in the Cromorne's timbre, and then, in the highest register of the Trumpet there reappears like a metamorphosed memory, the theme of the second movement. Passing other episodes, we come to Tempo giusto, insistent and glorious, interrupted by other passionate figures, cut off by unsettling silent moments and taken up again in always accelerating volleys.

Lemare's compositions are uneven in quality, but the best are still active in the repertoire. The Toccata di Concerto is certainly full of fireworks and has the capacity to show the abilities of a great Organ. The upper parts have plenty of French toccata style, but the theme in the pedals gives the piece substance, as does the romantic, chromatic interlude in the middle of the work.Organ virtuoso and composer Edwin Lemare was the world's highest-paid Organist at the height of his career in the early 1900's, drawing bravos from ctritics and the crowds who queued around the block to hear this most famous of Organists. After having served as a church Organist for a relativelyshort period, he began the life of a travelling recitalist, beginning with a hundred-recital tour of the USA and Canada in 1900, a career that continued until the stock market crash of 1929. Lemare was also virtuosic in his ability to transcribe great Orchestral works for the Organ, allowing audiences in those less urban times to hear works played live that they might have heard no other way.

Schneider's Organ Symphony No. 1 is in the tradition of the French organ symphonies (Widor, Vierne, Durufle). With its general tendency from the desperate dark to the comforting bright, the symphony brings up the air of the praying and pleading of suffering people as a theme. The 'pater noster' as archetype of the prayer is cited in all movements.

It is no coincidence that the Toccata from Widor's Vth Organ Symphony is his best-known composition. Who can resist its thrilling verve? Not only this, but also the other movements of this unique work of the organ repertoire win you over immediately - the first with its march-like, majestic, much-varied theme; the second with its wonderfully elegiac oboe melody, flowing along over staccato sixteenth notes; and the two slow movements, of which the melancholy, almost static Adagio forms the greatest contrast imaginable to the following triumphal Toccata. The Carus Urtext edition is based on the Paris edition of 1928/29, the last one to be published during Widor's lifetime. The corrections which the composer made after the publication of this edition have also been taken into consideration. As well as this, earlier editions have been consulted for comparison to clarify individual variant readings. Editorial suggestions on the performance of individual passages complete the new edition. Olli Kortekangas (b. 1955) spent some time looking for a suitable chorale or theme after receiving a commission from Tomi Satomaa to compose a variation work for organ. It was foundsurprisingly close at hand, on his very own desk: The Partita is based on a chorale melody Kortekangas composed some years ago. The Partita has six movements performed without a break. The first presents the chorale melody itself, and the other five could be described as character pieces each based on some part of it or characteristic. The work was premiered at the Turku Organ Festival in July 2019.

Bruckner described his setting of Psalm 150 (1892) as “my best festive cantata of allâ€. With its monumental Halleluja theme and the great fugue on “Alles, was Odem hat, lobe den Herrnâ€, the psalm setting has a pronounced festive character. For this edition, Marius Popp has transcribed the orchestral writing for organ. Originally scored for large orchestra and large choir, this festive cantata can now also be performed by smaller choral forces in a sacred space. The fascinating combination of filigree motifs, powerful passages and chromatically bold complexities are expressed in a completely new way in this arrangement. An exciting setting of one of the most popular psalms for more experienced choirs to perform in festive church services or concerts. The vocal and choral scores from the original version (also available as Carus 27.410/00) can be used with the organ version..
