David Wilborn's SlideShow for 8-part Trombone Ensemble is a showy work that has continuous energy all the way throughout. It is in A-B-A format with the B section being a bit more relaxed. The work has lots of rhythmic and tonal contrasts and gives a very good work out for the performers' slides as well, as per the title. The music is about 6 minutes in length, all in bass clef and is appropriate for advanced performers. SlideShow was written for Jon Bohls and the SlideShow Trombone Choir of Dallas, Texas.

A beautiful vocal work of about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes in length transcribed for 8-part antiphonal trombone choir by Ralph Sauer, L.A. Philharmonic Principal Trombone. Handl's Pater Noster is not too difficult and would be appropriate for almost any level group including high school level. The range is conservative with an occasional high B-flat. Jacob Handl was an Austrian composer of Slovene descent, born in Ljubljana. Choirmaster to the Bishop of Olmutz 1579-1585, he lived thereafter in Prague as an organist.

Crucifixus by Antonio Lotti is part of his Credo in F. This motet of 8 voices is a wonderful example of polyphony with many suspensions thrown in for good measure. The music is sweet with a beautiful sadness, making it a work that touches most listeners in a very personal way.Mr. Brink has transposed the work down a fifth into the key of F minor (resolving to F major at the conclusion), otherwise keeping the music true to its origins. This 4 minute work has a range of up to high B-flat for the 1st part. The mysterious Prelude and Fugue in B-flat minor BWV 867 is special in that its fugue has five voices, has a leap of a minor 9th, and concludes with a hyperstretto (remember the theory class you slept through), the overlapping of ALL five voices offset by only one note. Mozart composed Ave verum corpus in 1791. It is a motet setting of a Latin hymn for small orchestra and chorus. It's style is very simple and non-dramatic unlike the Requiem which he was to begin composing soon after. Ed Hayes has transposed the work into B-flat from the original key of D for 8 Trombones with this gorgeous arrangement.
