An ABRSM syllabus title, 2014-21, Grade 6. Although the recorder was a popular instrument in France at the beginning of the 18th century, relatively few original French pieces for recorder have survived. One reason for this is that the repertoire of the recorder players of that time was largely taken from the flute literature, the pieces being transposed a third higher because of the difference in pitch between the flute and the recorder. Six of the seven suites in this volume - works by Caix d.Hervelois, Dornel, Pierre Philidor, Hotteterre, Naudot and de la Barre - are indeed flute music transposed in accordance with the custom of the period, one suite, however, is an original work for recorder by Dieupart written for the B flat descant recorder and transposed for the C descant recorder in use today. In selecting the works our aim was to provide a stylistic panorama of the French music of the period, featuring the various types of suite.

This collection of melodies offers a selection of the most attractive recorder tunes from the folk music of the Carpathian Basin, and also provides some insight into Romanian recorder music. Performances by folk musicians on the 6-hole folk recorder have been preserved on sound recordings and noted down by scholars. On this basis the editor has made practical transcriptions, in simplified notation. Material of this nature has up till now been unavailable to students and performing artists using modern wind instruments. This collection of unusual, nobly simple melodies and complex, virtuoso pieces is equally suitable for teaching purposes and for enlarging the repertoire ofinstrumental artists.

Diese Melodiensammlung präsentiert eine Auswahl der schönsten Blockflötenmelodien der ungarischen Volksmusik im Karpatenbecken, gleichzeitig gewährt sie aber auch Einblicke in die rumänische Blockflötenmusik. Die Volksmusikanten spielen auf Hirtenflöten mit sechs Löchern, aus der Praxis gibt es Tonbandaufnahmen und wissenschaftlichen Ansprüchen gerechtwerdende Aufzeichnungen, auf deren Basis der Herausgeber praktische Transkriptionen mit vereinfachter Schriftweise fertigte. Bis jetzt hatten die auf den modernen Blasinstrumenten spielenden Schüler und professionelle Bläser in dieser Form keinen Zugang zu einem derartigen oder ähnlichem Stoff. Die Sammlung der außergewöhnlichen,in ihrer Einfachheit edlen Melodien und komplizierten virtuosen Stücke kann sowohl für pädagogische Zwecke als auch zur Bereicherung des Repertoires professioneller Musiker herangezogen werden.
