Sbandiamo! is a joyous—and swinging—work, taking its title from the wind music event held annually in the medieval Italian city of Gubbio, Umbria in which various bands from all over Italy participate. The first performance of this piece was given at the Piazza Grande, Gubbio, under the baton of the composer himself, with a wind band of some 250 musicians. A stately introduction, with festive percussion, is followed by a catchy theme in alternating pop and march rhythms. The opening theme then returns as a marcia cantabile, and the work is brought to a grand and compelling conclusion.

Sbandiamo! is zowel een vreugdevol als swingend werk. De titel verwijst naar het gelijknamige blaasmuziekevenement in de middeleeuwse stad Gubbio in Umbrië (Italië). Daar klonk op de Piazza Grande de première met een blaasorkest bestaande uit ongeveer 250 musici, onder leiding van de componist. Elk jaar nemen diverse orkesten uit heel Italië deel aan dit evenement. Een statige inleiding met feestelijk slagwerk wordt gevolgd door een pakkend thema in afwisselende pop- en marsritmes. Dan keert het beginthema terug als marcia cantabile en eindigt het werk meeslepend en groots.

Dort fand auch die Uraufführung des Stückes mit einem etwa 250-köpfigen Blasorchester unter der Leitung des Komponisten auf der Piazza Grande statt. Jedes Jahr nehmen an dieser Veranstaltung verschiedene Blasorchester aus ganz Italien teil. Auf die majestätische Einleitung mit festlichem Schlagwerk folgt ein eingängiges Thema mit wechselnden Posp- und Marschrhythmen. Sbandiamo! Son titre fait référence la rencontre d’orchestres d’harmonie qui regroupe chaque année des orchestres de toute l’Italie dans la ville médiévale de Gubbio en Ombrie (Italie). L , sur la Piazza Grande, l’œuvre a été créée sous la direction du compositeur avec une ensemble d’environ 250 musiciens. Une introduction grandiose avec de la percussion festive est suivie d’un thème entraînant, alternant entre des rythmes de pop et de marche. Una maestosa introduzione con festose percussioni è seguita da un tema accattivante che alterna ritmi pop e di marcia. Il tema iniziale ritorna poi come una marcia cantabile e il brano si avvia ad una grande ed irresistibile conclusione.

This piece is about a medieval legend, The Treasure of Zolverknapp, thatis associated with the region around the village Zolver in Luxembourg.It tells the tale of hidden treasure, brave knights, fierce battles, silverand jewels and a devil?s curse! All of these combine to make The Legendof Celobrium a legendary concert work.

The Legend of Celobrium is geschreven in opdracht van de Harmonie de Soleuvre uit Luxemburg, ter gelegenheid van het honderdjarig bestaan in 2007. Celobrium was de Romeinse naam voor Soleuvre (Zolwer in het Luxemburgs, Zolverin het Duits). Het werk beschrijft een beroemde sage die al eeuwen bekend is in de regio. Een muzikaal verhaal boordevol avontuur!

Dieses Stück handelt von einer mittelalterlichen Sage aus der Region um das Dorf Zolver (lateinisch Celobrium) in Luxemburg. Sie erzählt von einem Silberschatz in einer alten Burg. Raubritter, Krieg, Flucht, Silber und Juwelen, der Teufel und ein Fluch, der heute noch jene trifft, die versuchen, den Schatz zu heben, machen The Legend of Celobrium zu einem spannenden Konzertwerk.

The Legend of Celobrium (“La légende de Celobrium”) est une œuvre de commande pour l’Orchestre d’Harmonie de Soleuvre au Luxembourg l’occasion de la célébration de son centenaire, en 2007.Celobrium est le nom donné par les Romains la ville de Soleuvre (Zolwer en luxembourgeois ou Zolver en allemand). La composition raconte une célèbre légende liée la région depuis des siècles : la légende du Trésor du Zolwerknapp.Le Zolwerknapp (signifiant littéralement « bouton de Soleuvre ») est un des points les plus élevés du Luxembourg. Jadis, il abritait le ch teau d’Alexandre, un noble chevalier descendant du prestigieux Ordre médiéval des Templiers, qui y vivaitavec sa famille et son armée. Non loin du Zolwerknapp, près de Belvaux, vivait au sommet d’une colline boisée, un puissant voleur du nom de Tara. Les deux hommes étaient constamment en conflit, chacun voulant régner sur les terres alentours. Tara finit par remporter le conflit et consentit une seule concession. Il autorisa l’épouse d’Alexandre quitter les lieux avec son ne et emporter avec elle tous les biens précieux que l’ ne pouvait porter. Il lui accorda le droit de s’installer en lieu s r aussi loin que l’ ne pouvait la mener. Magnanime, elle choisit d’emmener son mari avec elle, consciente que sa fuite serait ainsi ralentie. Avant de partir, elle jeta son or et ses précieux joyaux dans un puits profond du ch teau.Le voyage fut long et difficile. force de ténacité, ils réussirent se mettre en sécurité au sommet d’une colline avoisinante. Ils s’y installèrent et érigèrent un nouveau ch teau, le ch teau de Differdange.Les siècles passèrent et le ch teau du Zolwerknapp n’était plus qu’un amas de ruines. Jamais personne n’avait osé y chercher le trésor qui sommeillait dans les profondeurs du puits. Mais un jour, le prêtre local réussit persuader sept hommes braves de descendre au fond de l’obscur goulot pour récupérer l’or. Pour ce faire, il leur donna une corde et leur conseilla de garder le silence une fois le fond atteint. Les sept.

The Tower was commisioned by the concert band of Auneau (France), for their 190th anniversary. The composer was inspired by a medieval tower standing in the city and decided to transcribe in music the life in the middle ages, the gregorian chant of the monks, a village festival, the building of the tower, step by step, and then the evocation of the battle of Auneau, one of the famous religious battles of the middle ages in France. The work ends with the regained calm, and the monks singing their gregorian chant at the end of the day.

The Tower werd geschreven in opdracht van het harmonie orkest van Auneau (Frankrijk), voor hun 190-jarig bestaan. De componist werd geïnspireerd door een middeleeuwse toren die in de stad staat en besloot het leven in de middeleeuwen, het gregoriaans van de monniken, een dorpsfeest, de bouw van de toren, stap voor stap in muziek om te zetten, en dan de evocatie van de slag bij Auneau, een van de beroemde religieuze veldslagen uit de middeleeuwen in Frankrijk. Het werk eindigt met de hervonden rust en de monniken die aan het eind van de dag hun gregoriaanse gezang zingen.

The Tower a été commandée par l’harmonie d’Auneau (France) à l’occasion de son 190ème anniversaire. Le compositeur a été inspiré par une tour médiévale et a transcrit la vie de l’époque, le chant grégorien des moines, une fête villageoise, la construction de la tour, étage par étage, puis l’évocation de la bataille d’Auneau, l’une des célèbres guerres de religion de la France médiévale. L’œuvre s’achève avec le calme retrouvé et le chant grégorien a nouveau interprété.

The Tower wurde von der Konzertkapelle von Auneau (Frankreich) für ihr 190-jähriges Jubiläum in Auftrag gegeben. Der Komponist ließ sich von einem mittelalterlichen Turm in der Stadt inspirieren und beschloss, das Leben im Mittelalter, den gregorianischen Gesang der Mönche, ein Dorffest, den Bau des Turms und schließlich die Schlacht von Auneau, eine der berühmtesten religiösen Schlachten des Mittelalters in Frankreich, in Musik zu übertragen. Das Werk endet mit der wiedergewonnenen Ruhe und dem Singen des gregorianischen Gesangs der Mönche am Ende des Tages.

This cycle of orchestral songs sets four poems from an early collection by Rilke entitled Das Stundenbuch, or in English, Book of Hours. Although the title refers to a medieval book of prayers for the various times of day and seasons of the liturgical year, Rilke's texts occupy a position some distance from conventional piety. There is a melancholy to the spirituality expressed here, which speaks of an experience of God that is fragmentary, imperfect, and unattainable. The solitude evoked in the second song (as layers of busy activity are gradually peeled away) offers some solace, but the third song is very dark and fierce, filled with a desperate, even manic desire for God. The last song returns to the mood of the first, but now in a global rather than individual context. This song, like the set as a whole, speaks of our world's brokenness, yet strives to stammer fragments of God's name.
