These four dances are written in a kind of neo renaissance style. Because of the fact that little technical demands are required from its performing artists, these dances are mainly meant for beginning groups, youth ensembles and also for orchestras in all kinds of small strengths. Jan Van der Roost originally had pedagogical intentions with this piece. Myriam Mees arranged Four Old Dances with the same intention for accordion orchestra with electronium and percussion ad libitum.

Deze vier dansen zijn geschreven in een soort neorenaissancestijl. Gezien de geringe technische eisen die aan de uitvoerders gesteld worden, richten deze dansjes zich vooral op beginnende groepen, jeugdensembles en ook op allerhandekleine bezettingen. Jan Van der Roost had in eerste instantie pedagogische bedoelingen. Myriam Mees arrangeerde Four Old Dances met dezelfde intentie voor accordeonorkest met electronium en percussie ad libitum.

Diese vier Tänze sind in einer Art Neorenaissance-Stil geschrieben. Da sie in technischer Hinsicht keine großen Anforderungen an die Ausführenden stellen, sind sie für Anfängerensembles, Jugendorchester und alle zahlenmäßig kleinen Orchester besonders gut geeignet.

Four Old Dances est une suite de quatre danses originales composées dans le style de la musique de la Renaissance. Simples de structure et accessibles aux Orchestres Juniors, ces quatre danses ont été arrangées pour Orchestre d’Accordéons par Myriam Mees. L’instrumentation est quatre voix avec partie de clavier électronique / synthétiseur ad lib. et partie optionnelle de percussion.

The Castle of Allymes, “castrum Alemorum”, located on a hill in the centre of the seigneury of Allymes (France) is an historic castle dating back to the fourteenth century, rebuilt in the sixteenth century and restored in the nineteenth. This piece evokes an image of the castle, its beautiful location within the surrounding landscape and its importance for the rural district of Ambérieu-en-Bugey. Combining beautiful melodies with rhythmical sections and modern sounds with passages in a renaissance style, this work of Jacob de Haan is an impressive musical challenge that is both fun to play as well as appealing for your audience: as you listen you can almost see the castlebefore your eyes.

Castrum Alemorum, gelegen op een heuvel in de seigneurie van Allymes (Frankrijk), is een 14e eeuws kasteel dat in de 16e eeuw is herbouwd en in de 19e eeuw is gerestaureerd. Het werk roept beelden op van het kasteel zelf en zijn prachtige omgeving; ook wordt het belang van het fort voor het landelijke district Ambérieu-en-Bugey erin onderstreept. Met een combinatie van fraaie melodieën, ritmische gedeelten en moderne klanken met passages in renaissancistische stijl, vormt dit werk van Jacob de Haan een muzikale uitdaging die zowel fijn is om te spelen als om naar te luisteren. Je ziet het kasteel bijna voor je!

Die imposante Burg von Allymes, Castrum Alemorum“, liegt majestätisch auf einem Hügel der Rhônes-Alpes Region im Osten Frankreichs. Dieses Stück erzählt von dieser Burg, der herrlichen Lage und an ihre Bedeutung für die Gegend. Jacob de Haankombiniert wunderschöne Melodien mit rhythmischen Abschnitten sowie moderne Klänge mit an die Renaissancemusik angelehnten Passagen. This three-part suite is rich in dances and full of contrasting styles and dynamics. The title of the work is a pun on the term ‘concerto grosso’, a piece in parts for a group of solo instruments and orchestra. In Contrasto Grosso small groups in the band perform as soloists, interpreting contrasting renaissance style fragments.

Deze dansrijke suite bestaat uit drie delen die worden gekenmerkt door contrasten in stijl, dynamiek en instrumentatie. De titel van de compositie is een woordspeling op het concerto grosso, een meerdelig werk voor een groep solo-instrumentenen orkest. Ook in Contrasto Grosso treden kleinere groepen in het orkest solistisch op met contrasterende, renaissancistische tussenfragmenten.

Contrasto Grosso est une suite dansante en trois mouvements de caractères et de styles variés. Le titre de l’œuvre dérive du terme concerto grosso, une forme musicale dont la structure se caractérise par une instrumentation alternant les passages orchestraux en tutti et les passages instrumentaux joués par des groupes solistes. Le changement de couleurs sonores et la diversité des nuances obtenus par cette alternance donnent l’œuvre une expressivité très contrastée. Dans chacun des trois mouvements de cette œuvre, Jacob de Haan confie de petits groupes solistes l’interprétation de fragments écrits dans le style de la musique de laRenaissance et qui offrent ainsi un contraste saisissant avec les passages en tutti basés sur une écriture classique ou traditionnelle.

Based on traditional Easter chants Fantasia di Pasqua is a tremendous work to feature four of your players in a religiously inspired work. Often this work is performed in church concerts or religious situations and, as such, thecomposer suggests that the quartet may be utilised performing from two galleries_x001A_. This creates a wonderful double-choir effect that befits the Renaissance-like style of such great composers as Gabrieli. A truly inspired work tobring a touch of Renaissance class to your concerts.

In Fantasia di Pasqua speelt het (koper)kwartet een cruciale rol. De componist raadt aan dit kwartet vanuit een galerij te laten spelen: de zo gecreëerde dubbelkorigheid past bij de enigszins renaissancistische stijl van hetwerk. De gebruikte koraalmelodieën worden alle - veelal dansrijk - door het kwartet uitgevoerd in diverse cadansen, die mede door de dubbelkorigheid resulteren in een levendige en afwisselende uitvoering. Het kwartet hoeft nietper se te bestaan uit twee trompetten (cornetten) en twee trombones, maar kan naar believen worden samengesteld.

In seiner Fantasia di Pasqua verwendete Michael Bilkes traditionelle Osterlieder. Ein Quartett spielt hier eine entscheidende Rolle. Dies kann ein Blech- und/oder Holzbläserquartett sein, möglich ist auch ein Posaunenchor (der Komponist gibt hierzu Tipps). In Kirchen kommt die Fantasie besonders schön zur Geltung, wenn das Quartett von der Empore herab spielt. Der so kreierte Doppelchor-Effekt passt ausgezeichnet zum Renaissance ähnlichen Stil und verspricht eine sehr lebhafte und abwechslungsreiche Aufführung.

Fantasia di Pasqua est une fantaisie basée sur des mélodies chorales pascales, issues de la Renaissance. Un quatuor (cuivres/bois) joue un rôle primordial dans le développement de la pièce. La musique pascale étant essentiellement destinée être interprétée dans un lieu de culte, le compositeur préconise de placer le quatuor sur le balcon. Lâ??effet de double ch?ur ainsi créé donne la pièce un caractère varié et divertissant.

Fantasia di Pasqua, basata su melodie tradizionali, utilizza un quartetto, che riveste un ruolo fondamentale nello sviluppo del brano. Sono possibili varie combinazioni, come ad esempio un quartetto di ottoni e/o legni, come anche un coro di tromboni). Fantasia di Pasqua è scritta in uno stile simile alla musica rinascimentale, una scelta che si spiega con il fatto che la maggior parte delle melodie corali datano di questo periodo. Queste melodie danzanti, interpretate dal quartetto, segnano la trama del brano. La bellezza del doppio coro conferisce al brano un carattere variegato e divertente.
