Joachim Raff's celebrated first cello concerto is only gradually being rediscovered today. This is astounding, taking into account both the quality of the composition as well as its enthusiastic reception in the past. All renowned cellists of the time performed the work, but the history of op. 193 is still more closely linked to Friedrich Grutzmacher, its commissioner, co-editor, and soloist in its world premiere, than to any other musician. Grutzmachers wish for a concerto to free us poor cellists from our situation that is becoming truly unbearable and driving us to the utmost discontent was certainly fulfilled by Raff. The extensive preface of this first Urtext-Edition documents the close collaboration between composer and interpreter, as well as performance practice of the time. The corresponding piano reduction includes not only an Urtext-solo part, but also a part with the markings by the Zurich cellist Jonas Kreienbuhl. In collaboration with the Joachim-Raff-Archiv Lachen (CH).

The Eroica according to the Complete EditionExploring the Eroica is the name of the essay with which the editor made herself known back in 1998 and which contributed decisively to the research into the complex transmission. Written in 1803, the autograph of the work is lost today. The title Sinfonia Eroica is already found in the first edition (but only there as well). The main source of the edition is the copy of the score, which was carefully examined and emended by Beethoven, and into which he made corrections even after the appearance of the first printed set of parts. In addition, the copies of the parts used for first performances (before publication) as well as the extremely error-filled first edition of the instrumental parts are also relevant; more so, however, is another printed set that Beethoven personally revised. Thanks to the new performance material, the musical text of the new Beethoven Complete Edition can now also be heard alternatively to the Breitkopf Urtext edition by Peter Hauschild (PB/OB 5233).

Scott's String Quartet No.3 was published in 1960. It was premiered by the Aeolian Quartet at the Wigmore Hall in London in the following year.
Cyril Scott (1879-1970) was a British composer, pianist and poet. His most popular works, which he is largely remembered by today, were written in the years preceding the Second World War, however he continued to compose prolifically, in the face of indifference from the outside world, right up until his death at the age of 91. His music is predominantly in the Romantic style, and serves as a tasteful reminder of a bygone age.
