A special charm of the mass is the fact that it dispenses with soloists. In this mass, exemplary for Cherubini's church music is the richness of color in the treatment of the orchestra, as well as in the choral parts, and the expressiveness of the dynamic nuances. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4008700.

Commissioned in 2017 for St Asaph Cathedral Choir, Wales, Let us go to Bethlehem is an engaging and gently flowing setting of words adapted from Luke 2:15, full of joy and sparkling energy. Will ToddÂ’s melodic craftsmanship is present as the sopranos set the joyful tone before the lower parts introduce the composerÂ’s stylistic harmonies. Homophonic sections are contrasted with clever interplay between the parts, underpinned by a supportive and approachable organ part. An uplifting addition to the contemporary Christmas carol repertoire, which intermediate choirs should get to grips with quite quickly.

Voiced for SATB, assembly, guitar, and keyboard, you may choose the option of adding a children's choir to sing a solo on the final refrain, before the choir and and assembly return. The keyboard writing is simply beautiful and the vocals are intuitive, making this piece easy to learn. This would be a wonderful choice to sing over the four Sundays of Advent.

Telemann’s passion oratorio “Der Tod Jesu†was composed in 1754-55, roughly at the same time as the same-named highly regarded work by Carl Heinrich Graun. Both pieces are settings of the same libretto by Karl Wilhelm Ramler. In this late work, Telemann consciously contrasts the carefully crafted recitatives with musically reduced solemn choruses to obtain an emotional reading of the Passion text. This vocal score complements the Urtext score of this moving passion oratorio which is published as part of the “Georg Philipp Telemann Musical Worksâ€. The complete orchestral material is available on hire.

The motets of Johann Ludwig Bach occupy an outstanding position within this genre. Though rooted firmly in the shorter motets from the Thuringian tradition, nonetheless they reach dimensions which are seldom observed in that tradition. This is also true with respect to polychoral music, which here is raised from the exception to the rule - on the other hand, it is valid, when one bears in mind the necessity of representing the prestige of a royal court. Varying ensembles and dialogue-like passages contribute to these richly expressive compositions. Without a doubt these motets by the Meininger Bach, highly regarded by J. S. Bach, are a treasured enrichment of the repertoire of all choirs.
