Virginia Croft has taken a popular German canon and transformed it into a stunning new piece for young string groups. It begins with the canon as is, and then adds two other composed themes that complement the original tune. With its largely contrapuntal composition, this piece is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their independence.“All things shall perish from under the skyMusic alone shall live, music alone shall live,Music alone shall live, never to die.â€Here is an exciting treatment of a well-known simple canonic melody, first stated in its entirety by the cellos. As it passes through the voices, it should predominate over the accompanying embellishments, resulting in an energetic and exciting presentation of an old tune. What a wonderful way to teach the harmonic aspects of canonic melody while offering a lively and enjoyable experience for both performers and audience.

What better way to end a concert than with a joyous and triumphant Beethoven finale! Set in the key of D, this dynamic arrangement enables less-experienced musicians to perform with resonating confidence while still retaining the excitement and determination of the original. Outstanding!

This traditional folk tune begins softly and subtly, since mama don't allow no fiddle, banjo, or any type of playin' 'round here! As the arrangement progresses, confidence builds: We don't care what mamma don't 'low; we'll play the fiddle anyhow! By the end of the piece, the whole room is alive with music as though perhaps mama herself has now joined in!

Subatomic is written for the youngest of string students. It uses only the first 6 notes of the D scale, with no more difficult rhythm than two repeated eighth notes. Plus, there are no long sustained notes, which can often be challenging for young players. What is amazing is how exciting this piece is, despite limited technical resources! Composer Larry Clark continues to find new and creative ways to stimulate beginning students, providing them an opportunity for early musical success. This is a winner!
