String Parts String Orchestra (Parts) SKU: HL.51483322 For String Orchestra String Set Parts. Composed by Edvard Grieg. Edited by Ernst-Gü and nter Heinemann. Henle Music Folios. Classical. Softcover. 44 pages. G. Henle #HN3322. Published by G. Henle (HL.51483322). UPC: 196288308089. 9.5x12.25x0.59 inches. The occasion for the composition, described as a âsuite in the old styleâ, was the 200th birthday of the Norwegian-Danish poet Ludvik Holberg (1684-1754), which was celebrated in Bergen with several festive events. Initially, a piano version of the work was written in August 1884, but the composer already had the arrangement for string orchestra in mind, which he made just one month later. As a starting point, Grieg chose baroque dance movements from Holberg's era, but skilfully combined them with elements of his own tonal language, such as chromatic progressions and dynamic swells. The orchestral version of the âHolberg Suiteâ, which was very successful right from the beginning, is still one of Grieg's most popular compositions today and now enriches the Henle programme for string orchestra. String Parts String Orchestra (String Set) SKU: HL.51481567 For String...(+)
String Parts String Orchestra (String Set) SKU: HL.51481567 For String Orchestra String Parts. Composed by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky. Edited by Dominik Rahmer. Henle Music Folios. Classical. Softcover. 165 pages. G. Henle #HN1567. Published by G. Henle (HL.51481567). UPC: 196288206958. 9.25x12.0x0.824 inches. Tchaikovsky spent the summer and autumn of 1880 at his sisterÂs country estate in KamÂianka, Ukraine, where he sought peace and relaxation. But after a short time the desire to work took hold of him again. âI'm sketching a symphony or string quintet just now; I don't know where it's going yet,â he wrote to his friend and patroness Nadezhda von Meck. In the end it turned out to be a Serenade for String Orchestra, which numbers among his most beautiful inspirations and is today a central work in the genre. The four movements captivate with their diverse moods â be it the Mozartian first movement âin the form of a sonatinaâ, the elegant Waltz, the melancholy âElegiaâ or the rousing Finale. For this new source-critical edition it was possible to consult the autograph in Moscow as well as the early printed editions into which Tchaikovsky sometimes entered a number of minor revisions. Clear the stage for the new reference edition of this indispensable work of the string-orchestra repertoire! | Serenade In E Minor, Op. 20 String Orchestra [Set of Parts] G. Henle
String Parts String Orchestra (Parts) SKU: HL.51483312 For String Orch...(+)
String Parts String Orchestra (Parts) SKU: HL.51483312 For String Orchestra String Set Parts. Composed by Edward Elgar. Edited by Rupert Marshall-Luck. Henle Music Folios. Classical. Softcover. 70 pages. G. Henle #HN3312. Published by G. Henle (HL.51483312). UPC: 196288207214. 9.25x12.0x0.523 inches. Elgar's Serenade for Strings was composed in 1892 and represents the first of his works with which the 35-year-old composer was truly satisfied. Whether, as often claimed, it derives from three pieces for strings from 1888 can no longer be ascertained, since only the titles of those pieces âSpring Songâ, âElegyâ and âFinaleâ, have come down to us. However, these titles would also characterise the movements of the Serenade surprisingly well. Posterity shares Elgar's positive assessment to the present day: the Serenade op. 20 is not only one of his most popular compositions, but is among the most frequently played works in the string-orchestra literature. Edited by British Elgar specialist Rupert Marshall-Luck, this classic now appears in Henle Urtext as conducting score, performance material and handy study edition. The serenade flourished in Mozart's era, but with Brahms the genre experienced a new surge in popularity in the 19th century. Today it is among Dvorák's most popular and most frequently performed compositions. The six CONCERTI ARMONICI was long thought to be the work of the violinist-impresario Carlo Ricciotti or composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, but more recent research has revealed the composer to be Unico Wilhelm van Wassenauer (1692-1766). Born into a wealthy Dutch family, the diplomat and composer founded a Collegium musicum in The Hague under the oversight of Ricciotti. Composed between 1725 and 1740, the six concertos have been falsely attributed to a variety of contemporaries, Ricciotti and Pergolesi amongst them, since its anonymous publication. Wassenauer's aristocratic background was the reason for his secretiveness. The sentiment of the time ordained that musicians belong to the lower classes. This edition of CONCERTINO No. 2 (also CONCERTO ARMONICO in G Major, CONCERTO IV, or just CONCERTINO in G), drawing from the CONCERTO ARMONICO in G Major, IUW 3, was edited by 20th century Baroque expert Fritz Rikko. Rikko spuriously attributes the work to Pergolesi. Despite Wassenauer's authorship having since been confirmed, Rikko's original editorial notes have been retained. Instrumentation: Str (4 Vn parts [2.2.2.2].3.2.2): Harpsichord Continuo in score. These products are currently being prepared by a new publisher. Parts String Sextet (Strings) SKU: HL.51481565 String sextet, set of parts. Composed by Arnold Schönberg. Edited by Annette Oppermann. Henle Music Folios. Chamber, Classical. Softcover. 93 pages. G. Henle #HN1565. Published by G. Henle (HL.51481565). UPC: 196288206941. 9.25x12.0x0.363 inches. In setting Richard Dehmel's poem âVerklärte Nachtâ (Transfigured Night) in his op. 4, the young Arnold Schönberg pursued the intention, as he himself said, of âattempting those new forms in chamber music which have been created in orchestral music based on a poetic ideaâ. Composed in September 1899 in a few weeks whilst he was on holiday, the Sextet incorporates the ideas of the symphonic poem in its programmatic character and its one-movement form, and also displays late Romantic traits in its opulent tone. Already at its premiere in 1902 in Vienna, the special quality of the work was recognised, characterised by âpeculiar sound combinations and groundbreaking figuresâ, a work which was to become a true modern classic in the 20th century. For this Urtext edition, both the autograph score and the 1905 first edition have been consulted, as well as Schönberg's personal copies which are preserved in Vienna and contain numerous markings by the composer. For this Urtext edition, both the autograph score and the 1905 first edition have been consulted, as well as SchönbergÂs personal copies which are preserved in Vienna and contain numerous markings by the composer. This is a tour-de-force for the advancing string orchestra. Beautiful, dramatic, and flowing, Waterloo Station is very fresh and contemporary. Students will love it for the lush harmonic textures and rhythmic drive that this composer is so noted for. Composed as a characterization of the fast-paced atmosphere of London’s Waterloo Train Station, this fast-slow-fast piece combines technical excitement with heartfelt simplicity. The fast section in G minor consists of two main parts: the intense, emotional A section at m. 21 and the legato, sweeping B section at m. 59. The syncopated tutti figures in the high strings coupled with the fiery cello and bass lines propel the fast sections. The phrase in mm. 1–8 recurs throughout. Making four- to eight-measure exercises of this section below tempo in the violins and viola, focusing on rhythmic clarity, will help to lock in the syncopation. Similarly, the cello and bass should rehearse this slowly as well as mm. 9–16 to gain fluidity and insure a solid foundation. The cellos carry the tune at m. 71, and the ensemble builds from mm. 79–86 to the transition at m. 87. An abrupt change to half tempo here slows the momentum and transitions to a quiet, melancholy tone in m. 91. The middle section (ABA) begins in G minor with a somber quality, highlighted by the Violin I solo. It gradually builds to a beautiful, uplifting setting as it moves to G major in m. 100. Returning back to the hushed G minor tonality, it then speeds up again and transitions back to Tempo I for a brief recapitulation of the fast section. Measure 117 marks the return to vigorous playing, beginning softly and building to a thrilling ride to the end. Character was composed to introduce young string players to contemporary harmonic techniques while still being within the technical limitations of the developing student. Quartal and quintal harmonies open the composition with a fanfare gesture that ties the piece together. This is followed by an ostinato in the first violins that contains a tricky figuration between G and A that will work the pinky finger on the D-string. Players who are not capable of maneuvering their pinky at this brisk tempo should play the lower part. The main theme is given to the inner voice for a change! After the main theme there is a development section that combines fragments of the fanfare material with fragments of the main theme. A grand pause and then a stronger statement of the main theme then follow this with the first violins up an octave. The piece is then completed with a short coda containing fragments of the ostinato and fanfare material. It feels natural for the tempo to speed up slightly at this point in the piece. As with all of my pieces at this level, the tempo is merely a suggestion and should be adjusted slower or faster to fit the needs of your students and the performance situation. It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program. -Larry Clark New York, NY 2003.
