Baerenreiter Verlag #BA04074_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA04074). ISBN 9790006497850. 33.1 x 25.6 cm inches. Handel’s opera Lotario was first heard at the King’s Theater in the Haymarket on 2 December 1729 and had a run of nine performances. Though never revived in the composer’s lifetime, Handel reused many of its arias in his later operas, sometimes altering the words. The historical background of the plot is the conflict between Otto I (912–973) and Berengar of Ivrea for the Italian crown and Otto’s marriage to the Italian queen Adelaide in 951. In the course of composition, the name of the hero (“ Ottone †in Salvi’s libretto) was altered to “ Lotario †since Handel had already written an opera entitled Ottone on the life of Otto II (955–983) in 1722. The vocal score contains the version composed for the performances of December 1729 and January 1730. It is based on the Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition.

Chamber Music Flute, Piano, Piccolo SKU: PR.114418820 For Piccolo, Flute, and Chamber Orchestra (or Piano), TWV 52:e1. Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Arranged by Valerie Shields Zart Dombourian-Eby. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. 32+12+12 pages. Duration 14 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41882. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114418820). ISBN 9781491113998. UPC: 680160667697. Composed by Telemann as a double concerto for recorder and transverse flute, Zart Dombourian-Eby’s new edition is prepared for piccolo, flute, and piano — remaining compatible with available orchestral editions, and respectfully faithful to Telemann’s detailed nuances. Cast in the slow-fast, slow-fast four-movement mold typical of Baroque concert works, the CONCERTO IN E MINOR is at once among the most beautiful and exhilarating works of Telemann’s formidable output.______________________________________Text from the scanned back cover:ZART DOMBOURIAN-EBY is the Principal Piccoloist of the SeattleSymphony and is regularly featured as both a soloist and clinician in Seattle and across the world. Her performances consistently receive highest praise from both critics and audiences. A native of New Orleans, she received B.A. and M.M. degrees from Louisiana State University. After a year of study with Albert Tipton she attended Northwestern University earning a Doctor of Music degree under the tutelage of Walfrid Kujala. She has been a member of the New Orleans Pops, Baton Rouge Symphony, Colorado Philharmonic, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has performed with the Chicago Symphony and served on the faculties of the University of Washington and Pacific Lutheran University. She was the founding editor of Flute Talk and ison the Editorial Board for The Flutist Quarterly. Zart is the immediate past president of the National Flute Association, and been a featured soloist and presenter at numerous NFA conventions. Zart has commissioned numerous works, including two for piccolo and piano by Martin Amlin, sonatas by Gary Schocker and Levente Gyongyosi, and a chamber work by Ken Benshoof. She can be heard in over 100 recordings by the Seattle Symphony, and her solo CD, in shadow, light, is available on Crystal Records. Her award-winning edition of the three Vivaldi piccolo concertos is published by Theodore Presser.A native of Seattle, VALERIE SHIELDS received her B.M. summa cum laude in organ and violin from St. Olaf College. While completing her M.M. from Northwestern University, she became increasingly interested and skilled in the art of improvisation. She served as Director of Music at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, Illinois, where she developed a music program involving over 150 participants in choirs and chamber music groups.Upon her return to Seattle, she served for 12 years as director of adivision of the Northwest Girlchoir. She became organist and developed a vibrant Youth Choir at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, where she served for over 30 years, as well as enjoying a 20-year tenure as Music Director and Composer-in-Residence of Temple De Hirsch Sinai. Valerie’s work with children’s choirs, churches, and synagogues has inspired over 100 published compositions. When I was invited to perform a Vivaldi piccolo concerto in Italy a few years ago, my host, Luisa Sello, wrote that Carol Wincenc was going to be on the same concert, and was there any piece that we could play together? I looked and asked around, and my colleague Joanna Bassett recommended the Telemann Concerto in E Minor for Traverso and Recorder. I didn’t know the piece, but as I listened to a recording of it, I immediately loved it and could easily envision how beautifully it could work, with a few “adjustments,†for flute and piccolo. I got to work, and the current publication is the result. I have performed it many times, and enjoy it even more every time. It fits a unique place in our repertoire, and works equally well with piano as with the string orchestra setting.According to Steven D. Zohn, pre-eminent Telemann scholar, and author of Music for a Mixed Taste: Style, Genre, and Meaning in Telemann’s Instrumental Works, much is unknown about the concerto itself; it likely dates from the 1720s, soon after Telemann moved to Hamburg. Only an eighteenth-century copyist’s set of parts is extant, that of Johann Samuel Endler, who was engaged at the Darmstadt court as a singer and violinist, later becoming Vice-Kapellmeister and Kapellmeister, and who had a large collection of Telemann’s works. As in my Vivaldi concertos edition (Presser 414-41190), I have added virtually all of the articulations and dynamics that appear here, and have inserted quite a bit of ornamentation. Unlike the Vivaldi edition, I have not included any indication of the original Telemann in those passages, nor have I included any pedagogical markings, such as fingerings. Finally, I would like to acknowledge, with gratitude, Joanna Bassett, Daniel Dorff, Benton Gordon, Evan Pengra-Sult, Sandra Saathoff, Valerie Shields, Carol Wincenc, and Steven Zohn, for the various roles they played in the making of this publication.— Zart Dombourian-EbyJune 2018. $34.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

UPC: 888680021511. 9.25x12.25x0.321 inches. “Something quite curious, I believe†– It was thus that Robert Schumann described the Concert Piece for Four Horns and large orchestra in a letter and he did indeed break new ground with this work as far as the scoring and treatment of the instruments was concerned. When it was composed in 1849, the French horn was still fairly new, enabling players to play previously unheard-of runs and free modulations, a fact which Schumann made the most of, particularly with his scoring for four horns. Even today the Concert Piece is the romantic work for horn par excellence and a benchmark for all soloists. Prokofiev's Piano Sonatas 6â??8 are often referred to as â??war sonatasâ?, since they were composed in Russia during World War II during times of great hardship. As the shortest of the three, no. 7 is entirely focused on the essentials, and is certainly Prokofiev's most famous piano sonata. Anyone who has heard it will not forget the hasty first movement, marked â??Allegro inquietoâ?, the cantabile theme of the second movement and the relentless pull of the machine-like, thudding finale. The Sonata appeared in print in 1943 and that same year received the Stalin Prize (second category), including prize-money of 50,000 rubles, which was welcomed with great joy in the Prokofiev household. You can also derive joy from Prokofiev's Seventh Sonata, here critically edited on the basis of all the sources, and produced using Henle's legendary music engraving. A preface by the world's most prominent Prokofiev researcher, Simon Morrison, rounds off the edition. | Schumann Variations E-Flat Major Op. 23 1 Piano, 4 hands G. Henle
Piano; Piano Four Hands (1 Piano, 4 Hands) SKU: HL.51481648 Piano 4 Ha...(+)
Piano; Piano Four Hands (1 Piano, 4 Hands) SKU: HL.51481648 Piano 4 Hands. Composed by Johannes Brahms. Edited by Jakob Hauschildt. Henle Music Folios. Classical. Softcover. 31 pages. G. Henle #HN1648. Published by G. Henle (HL.51481648). UPC: 196288308423. 12.25x9.25x0.11 inches. Johannes Brahms twice chose a theme by his friend and mentor Robert Schumann as the basis for piano variations. While the Variations op. 9 were composed for piano solo, as an exception he wrote Opus 23 for a four-hand scoring. Its tender, chorale-like theme is particularly touching and was carefully chosen by Brahms: It was among Robert Schumann's last musical thoughts, which the composer, already tormented by severe delusions, believed he heard from the voices of angels. The Variations, composed in 1861, end with a kind of funeral march and can be understood as a wistful farewell to his deceased friend. The musical text is based on the New Brahms Complete Edition, thus ensuring the highest accuracy and reflecting the most current state of research. Furnished with fingerings by Andreas Groethuysen, a proven specialist for the four-hand repertoire, this Urtext edition leaves nothing to be desired. Gounod had no qualms about arranging well-known works by earlier masters after his own fashion. Thus in 1852 he added a melody with its own operatic climax to the famous arpeggios of the C-major Prelude BWV 846 from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. He first published instrumental versions of it under the title âMéditationâ, then tried fitting various texts to the melody until in 1859 he arrived at the definitive vocal version using the text of the Ave Maria. Already by the 1890s it was claimed that â[we] have heard this sweet melody innumerable times from the best lady singersâ, and its popularity has continued to the present day. Reason enough, then, for Henle Verlag to publish an Urtext edition of this worldwide hit, based on the sources and with appropriate critical commentary. In 1859, at the same time as the original edition for high voice, editions for middle and low voice, presumably commissioned by the publishers, were also issued. Following this model, the Henle Urtext edition of âAve Mariaâ is also offered in two transpositions for the lower register. In 1735 Bach published the Italian Concerto, presented here in a revised separate edition, together with the French Overture in the second part of his âClavier Ãbungâ. The two works were intended to respectively exemplify the Italian and French styles. Thus, the âConcertoâ unmistakably imitates an Italian solo concerto, using only the means of the harpsichord. Tutti and solo passages can be heard as well as the dynamic gradations of the sound layers, which Bach explicitly marked with piano and forte. Energetic outer movements frame an Andante, in which a melancholy cantilena unfolds over unadorned chords. For the revision of this Bach classic, editor Ullrich Scheideler also evaluated, in addition to the prints, early manuscript copies which allowed interesting conclusions about the lost autograph. | Triumphlied, Op. 55 Orchestra [Study Score / Miniature] G. Henle
Baritone Voice; Choral; Orchestra (Study Score) SKU: HL.51489030 Barit...(+)
Baritone Voice; Choral; Orchestra (Study Score) SKU: HL.51489030 Baritone Solo, 8-Part Chorus and Orchestra Study Score. Composed by Johannes Brahms. Edited by Johannes Behr and Ulrich Tadday. Henle Study Scores. Classical. Softcover. G. Henle #HN9030. Published by G. Henle (HL.51489030). UPC: 196288093763. 6.75x9.5x0.505 inches. Brahms composed his Triumphlied for eight-part chorus, solo baritone and orchestra as a direct reaction to the victory of the German army in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 and the consequent founding of the German Empire. Similar to the German Requiem completed shortly before, Brahms himself compiled the text from the Bible, in this case from Chapter 19 of the Book of Revelations. Because of the somewhat melodramatic tone of the composition and the nationalistic background to the works genesis, in recent years the Triumphlied has seldom been heard in concert halls. Unlike overly-patriotic occasional works such as Richard Wagner's Kaisermarsch, the Triumphlied is true Brahms and is a musically rich composition. This study edition takes the musical text from the Brahms Complete Edition (HL 51486030), thereby representing the highest scholarly precision. The Appendix contains an exciting new discovery, a previously-unknown early version of the 1st movement in C major, which was only rediscovered in 2012 in Bremen. Softcover. 32 pages. Duration 7200 seconds. Schaum Publications, Inc. #0572. Published by Schaum Publications, Inc. (HL.645554). ISBN 9781495081569. UPC: 008148005727. 9.0x12.0 inches. A great music educator once said, Rhythm is caught, not taught. Duet playing provides valuable experience developing a sense of rhythm. These duets are designed for two students at the same level - primo and secondo parts are of equal difficulty. Both parts are fun to learn because both players are given interesting acompaniments as well as melodies. It is suggested that a student alternate parts, learning the primo part for one piece, the secondo part for the next, etc. This gives valuable sight-reading experience with both hands in treble clef and with both hands in bass clef. Duet playing provides an excellent opportunity for ear training, too. Emphasis should be placed on listening carefully to both parts so that the melody can be heard clearly and the accompaniment subdued. Book Two includes 12 duets: Blue Tail Fly * (She'll Be) Comin' Round the Mountain * Down by the Riverside * Jimmy Crack Corn (Blue Tail Fly) * Little David Play on Your Harp * Marines' Hymn * My Wild Irish Rose * You're a Grand Old Flag * and more. $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock
