A reprint edition of these important vocal works by the turn-of-the-century French composer, Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944). Affiliating herself with nationalist composers such as Saint-Saëns and Gounod, her style was very much rooted in both Romantic and French tradition. Her tuneful and highly accessible works were also tremendous favorites in the United States. Chaminade's Album of Songs was originally published between 1892 and 1893 and included thirty-seven total songs across two volumes, with versions for both high voice and low voice made available. LudwigMasters has made all thirty-seven songs available, with three books for each volume, totaling six books each for both high and low voices. Included in Volume 1, Book 3: Amour d'automne (W276, 1889); Souhait (W264, 1886); Colette (W285, 1891); L'absente (W271, 1886); L'anneau d'argent (W284, 1891); Amoroso (W283, 1891); Sur la plage (W286, 1892).

There is no other work more closely associated with the organ than Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata in D minor. During my compositional preparation, I repeatedly found myself returning to this work. I had a number of different formal models in mind, but felt myself gravitating towards the rhapsodic character of toccata form so that my new composition for organ ultimately became a toccata developing from a pedal point on the fundamental note 'D'. As is appropriate to the volume of a large modern organ, my concept focuses on symphonic tonal layers whose suggestive maelstrom originates from the inner strength of repeating elements and their register- like augmentation, culminating in the unleashing of polyrhythmic progressions. Attention should be given to gently stressing the first note of each measure so that the performers and audience can really feel the beat. It is important to relax into the tempo rather than rush in order to emphasize the regal nature of the piece. Bach's first cantata for the election of the Leipzig town council, composed in August 1723, is one of his most splendidly scored work from his Leipzig period. The choice of opening, with the representative form of a French overture, was suited to a festive orchestral scoring. Two choral movements frame a middle section which consists of two arias and a recitativo accompagnato with a trumpet ritornello. The conclusion of this extended festive music takes a reflective turn in movements 8 and 9, when Bach allows a recitative to be followed by simple, prayer-like chorale movement.
