Life has loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things, Blue waves whitened on a cliff, Soaring fire that sways and sings, And children's faces looking up Holding wonder in a cup. Life has loveliness to sell, Music like a curve of gold, Scent of pine trees in the rain, Eyes that love you, arms that hold, And for your spirit's still delight, Holy thoughts that star the night. Spend all you have for loveliness, Buy it and never count the cost; For one white singing hour of peace Count many a year of strife well lost, And for a breath of ecstacy Give all you have been, or could be. --Barter from Love Songs (1918) by Sara Teasdale Sara Teasdale (1884-1933) was an American poet whose short, personal lyrics are noted for their classical simplicity and quiet intensity. Love Abide encapsulates the very contemporary ethos of multicultural spiritual devotion in a world populated by a rich diversity of faiths--all feeling, as deeply and as aesthetically, the compelling potency of music with love. A rich offering on a theme of interfaith connectivity. The Japanese lullaby-inspired Zen Love Song and the title work Love Abide are totally absorbing.BBC Music Magazine, 5 starsWith its outspoken positive approach, Love Abide is like a musical bouquet of healing herbs. Roxana Panufnuik's beautifully crafted music is inventive and truly enjoyable. The Colla Voce Singers produce singing of exceptional quality, with impressive control and a very good balance. Remy Franck, www.pizzicato.lu, 5 starsIf I had to choose a 'glass-half-full' contemporary composer, then Roxanna Panufnik would be near the top of my list. Her Music exudes openness and inclusivity, and it is in the choral settings where hope and positivity - two words that lie at the heart of her work - are most keenly felt. ... much of her recent work can be seen to be built on the solid foundations laid down on this impressively varied and diverse collection. A music of hope in dark and troubled times. Pwyll ap Sion, Gramophone Magazine. This product is Printed on Demand and may take several weeks to fulfill. Please order from your favorite retailer.

In the days of Roslawez, the use of lyrical texts in Russian choral music was an exception. Traditionally, sacred liturgical texts were preferred in choral singing. Roslawez composed only a few choral works anyway, so this excellent cantabile piece is a real treasure. The poem 'Na poljach' (In the Fields) was written by the Russian poet Pyotr Oreshin. Little solo parts answered by the tutti, charming harmonies and a floating rhythm result in an Impressionist tonal image. The piece is quite easy to sing and will bring pleasure to both performers and listeners.Roslawez studied composition and violin in Moscow. He was among the leading figures of the musical scene in the 1920s. Treated more and more with hostility for political reasons and eventually barred from pursuing his career, he spent the last years of his life in poverty.

In Stacy Garrop’s inspired hands, divisi mixed chorus provides a rich palette of texture and color. Her setting intermingles three versions of the Hebrew folk tune, taking artistic advantage of contrasts between solo and tutti, homophony and grand antiphony, divisi men and divisi women, and the gradual braiding and unbraiding of Hebrew and English texts. LO YISA GOY is the explicitly anti-war Scriptural text better-known in its English translation that begins, “And they shall beat their swords into plowshares... nation shall not lift up a sword against nation.â€.When Jonathan Miller asked me to write two pieces for Chicago a cappella, I knew right away that I wanted to choose two songs from my own past. The first piece, Hava Nagila, is a celebratory song full of joy. I wanted the second work to contrast the first, and to this end, I chose the somber text of Lo Yisa Goy, a prayer for peace. I remember singing this song as a young child in Hebrew school and synagogue, always in context (at least in my congregation) of praying for the state of Israel. I think we’re at a particular point in which people in a lot of different nations could use such a prayer. For this reason, you’ll hear the words in both Hebrew and English. In my research of previous versions of the melody, I discovered three variants for the tune, all of which I have incorporated into my piece.

The a cappella motet Alleluja (2018) is a song of longing which resonates existential need as well as the hope of a profound connection to God. In the beginning, which is delicate and motivically very concentrated but metrically deliberately uncoordinated, more and more voices gather to sing together, until suddenly, starting from the bass, a violent and rhythmically exalted incantation breaks out. The following fortissimo unison in a high register is the climax of the entire work piece. In the Abgesang, the beginning is taken up, but now in a polyphonic and harmonically intensified setting. The end in A major seems like a salvation. The work has been released on the CD Rejoice. Vocal Music by Kay Johannsen (Carus 83.496/00).

Magnificat by Magdalena Zimmermann for mixed choir (SSAATTBB) plays with harmony, rhythm and dynamics. The unexpected continuation of melodies by the voices, combined with shifted rhythms, engages the audience's attention until the last bar and results in a rich sound. With its soft and gentle ending, Magnificat as a prayer of Mary exudes, at the same time, a sense of calmness and gentleness. The work is rhythmically and harmonically demanding, which is why the singers need to be steady keeping beat and intonation. Once Magnificat has been rehearsed, it is suitable for concerts as well as Sunday services.

Kurt Suttner, editor of the carus novus series, has written as follows in the foreword to the printed edition of Schanderl's setting of Psalm 90: The seven verses of Psalm 90 contrast the eternity of God with the transitoriness of man. This contrast is symbolized in the composition by the majestic, slow-moving basic pulse of the music, and by rhythmically taut, concise, polyphonic melodic figures. This contrast exactly matches the words which speak either of the permanence of God (Domine - Lord) or the transitory nature of man (convertimini filii hominum - return ye children of man - mane sicut herba - like the grass).
