This noble concert march was commissioned by the Musikverein Heek, Germany, for its 125th anniversary. In German mythology, Donar is the God of Thunder, and in the area around Heek, ‘Thunder Mountain’ is a household name. The work begins with a stately opening, followed by a beautiful trio melody with rhythmical and energetic sections. This is a march that features and showcases a range of musical aspects. It is perfect as an opener or to create variety during a concert. The choir parts are seperately available (order no. AMP 227-050).

Because we are committed to serving the needs of church choirs of all sizes - and especially those of smaller choirs in the real world - we're excited to offer you Christ Is Risen! Alleluia!, the latest from our Worship in Unison Series. We feel certain you'll appreciate the flexibility and accessibility built into the vocal arrangements here. And the theme and celebratory nature of this new, 15-minute musical is just right for Easter Sunday morning worship, leaving enough time for other elements of the service. While the entire work can be sung in unison, there are a few optional voice divisions available to you. And you can assign these however you wish, the choice is yours! Because the opening and closing medleys in this musical include lots of familiar material, the option of including the congregation on these selections is obvious. The narrations are taken exclusively from the book of I John, so the theme of God's love in Christ is prominent. The narrator may read these passages dressed in street clothes. Or, for added dramatic effect, you may choose to have the narrator portray the apostle John, dressed in biblical attire, and reading as if from his actual letters. We're honored to partner with you in your ministry. May the reality of the risen Christ be very real to you this Easter season and throughout the year.

Evolution was commissioned by Kunstfactor for the 4th section of the Dutch National Brass Band Championships (NBK) 2011. It is dedicated to Jappie Dijkstra and the Music Information Centre (MUI), Arnhem, Holland, in acknowledgement of their outstanding work in developing brass band repertoire. The composer writes:-The idea for the piece came when I was reading an article about a branch of Chinese philosophy which is abbreviated as Wu Xing, which has no exact translation but can mean, for example, five elements, five phases or five states of change. It is central to all elements of Chinese thought, including science, philosophy, medicine and astrology, and in simpleterms tries to create various cyclic relationships between five elements in all walks of life. An example is: Earth - Metal - Water - Wood - Fire - (Earth) etc. where (in one cycle) earth bears metal, metal changes to liquid (water) when heated, water helps trees grow, wood burns to create fire, fire produces ash (earth) and the cycle continues.I was particularly interested in the cycle of emotions: Meditation - Sorrow - Fear - Anger - Joy - (Meditation) etc. and thought this cyclic principle would provide an effective emotional journey for a piece of music. So Evolution has five equal sections which loosely characterise this emotional cycle. I have tried to make the music grow organically, with minimal repetition, and each movement evolves from the musical elements at the end of the previous one, with the opening material appearing, transformed, at the end of the piece to complete the cycle.

Queen Cleopatra ruled Egypt for over 20 years. She is one of antiquity’s best-known women, in particular because of her relationships with Julius Caesar and, above all, Mark-Anthony, but also because the cause of her death remainsa mystery. The work is split into three parts and performed without breaks. The first section begins with a bright introduction representing Mark-Anthony. Dynamic in nature and reminiscent of military music, this characterises theRoman general. But soon after, another theme emerges, softer and more melodic, symbolising Cleopatra’s femininity. The two characters then combine on a faster tempo. The middle section of the work depicts the love thatMark-Anthony and Cleopatra feel for each other. This passionate relationship lasted ten years and produced three children. This is expressed by a warm and intense theme, just like the beauty of the Egyptian queen. The third andlast section opens in a determined and military mood. Mark-Anthony and Cleopatra were often apart, the Roman general was often away on a campaign. They met up in Alexandria to celebrate their triumph. But, as the targets of thejealousy and ambition of Octavius, Julius Caesar’s son, the lovers are trapped and await the inevitable conquest of Egypt by the Romans. When Mark-Anthony heard the false news that Cleopatra had committed suicide, he ended his ownlife. The Queen of Egypt, for her part, was imprisoned shortly afterwards. The two lovers remain one of History’s most famous couples. This piece was commissioned by the Wind Orchestra of the town of Antony, near Paris, directedby Philippe Rossignol, to mark its 90th anniversary.

Festival Prelude ‘Ad Excel’ was commissioned by the AD Concert Band, from Solihull in the UK, to celebrate their 40th Anniversary in 2016. The title, Ad Excel, is a play on words: it is Latin for ‘to excel’ but also celebrates the band’s anniversary as XL is 40 in Roman numerals. The work opens with a bright fanfare with frequent changes of meter. This leads to a playful main subject, played first by woodwinds, followed by full band. A bridge passage leads to a legato second subject, played twice. The bridge passage returns to introduce the both main melodies in new keys and instrumentations before a coda, derived from the opening fanfare, brings the work to a close.
