The first of the Two Pieces for flute and harp or piano accompaniment, ââ¬Å1. The swansââ¬Â? is a lovely short piece composed by Henri Busser. Really melodious, this piece is perfect to work on the flexibility of the tone and a good training to be able execute pieces more difficult. Written mainly in A key, not often used by flutists, and starting Andantino moderato, the piece symbolizes the swans, riding on a lake. It features an intro, a main theme in [A] which comes back A tempo in [C] and a final Piú moderato, finishing with a really high trill. Some difficulties, such as the A key and the range used on this piece will require an intermediate technique: difficulty is rated at 5. This first piece is followed by the second one: ââ¬Å?The squirrels.ââ¬Â Henri Busser (1872-1913) is a French classical composer and organist. He was a professor at the Paris Conservatoire and a member of the Académie française. He wrote a ballet, numerous operas and chamber music.

This publication is designed to raise interest in contemporary music and create a personal relationship with unconventional forms ofmusic and music-making among the age group most receptive to these, that is, elementary school children. The pieces featured in it are in widely differing styles and by composers of different age groups and levels of recognition: Janos Bali, Adam Kondor, Gabor Kosa, Gyorgy Kurtag Jr., Csaba Lauran, Dora Petery, Vera Ronkos, Laszlo Sary, Andras Soos, Mate Szigeti and Peter Tornyai. Although 'creativity' plays a central role, this volume is not intended for training professional composers. It serves merely to encourage children to engage in the life-giving and pleasurable activities of listening to and forming sounds.

“Born in 1955, Lebanese-French composer, organist and improviser Naji Hakim studied under Jean Langlais at the Paris Conservatoire before succeeding Olivier Messiaen as organist of the Saint Trinity Church in Paris. Considering his significant musical training, Langlais' compositions are created from a wealth of knowledge and understanding, Concerto for Violin being no exception. Composed in 2002, Concerto for Violin, with String Orchestra or Piano reduction accompaniment, is highly modern in composition. With a typical performance lasting about 35 minutes, the concerto is made up of three movements. The solo Violin line addresses many virtuosic techniques, including double and triple stops, articulation, complex rhythms, varying bowings and a huge range of performance directions, amongst other aspects. For all advanced violinists, seeking varied, modern repertoire, Hakim's Concerto for Violin is an essential addition to the repertoire.&rdquo.

Thomas Moore (17791852) was an Irish poet, singer, songwriter and entertainer. In his poem, On Music, Moore emphasizes the power that music has in our lives and the ability it has to evoke memories and feelings from the past. Music transcends that which can be spoken or felt. The beauty of making music together is to establish meaningful connections with others and to share a common language through song. We are reminded, however, that relationships with each other can be fluid or unstable, but as the words of the poem remind us, music will not betray. No matter the experiences that we face, the relationships that we foster, or the memories that we create, music will always be there for us in times of need and in times of celebration. What does music mean to you? How does it enrich your life? On Music Thomas Moore When through life unblest we rove, Losing all that made life dear, Should some notes we used to love, In days of boyhood, meet our ear, Oh! how welcome breathes the strain! Wakening thoughts that long have slept, Kindling former smiles again In faded eyes that long have wept. Like the gale, that sighs along Beds of oriental flowers, Is the grateful breath of song, That once was heard in happier hours. Filld with balm the gale sighs on, Though the flowers have sunk in death; So, when pleasures dream is gone, Its memory lives in Musics breath. Music, oh, how faint, how weak, Language fades before thy spell! Why should Feeling ever speak, When thou canst breathe her soul so well? Friendships balmy words may feign, Loves are even more false than they; Oh! tis only musics strain Can sweetly soothe, and not betray. Note to the performer: Liberty can be taken with the tempo markings and rubato should be used throughout in order to further stress the beauty and significance of the text. With its vocal-like descant, the flute should be treated as an additional voice rather than mere accompaniment to enhance the texture of the piece.Thomas Moore (1779a1852) was an Irish poet, singer, songwriter and entertainer. A Renaissance-era carol brought up to date in a fresh contemporary setting. Veteran Broadway music director and conductor Ben Cohn brings a modern musical theatre sound to this traditional English song. A serenely sparse piano part (during two opening alto solos) gradually grows to a full and glorious accompaniment as more voices join. Listen closely for the juxtaposed stillness/motion and minor/major that symbolize the cold of winter versus the warmth of the season. The entire piece garners edge-of-your-seat wonder, but the greatest chills will come when brief strains from four additional carols trickle in. Simply stunning.
