This work in four movements is musically demanding and interesting for the pianist, though not as technically challenging as the composer's highly complex 'Eight Studies' (2 vols., ED 7068 and ED 7069). This collection of piano duets in popular styles aims to add variety to piano lessons by providing attractive pieces in a pop idiom. The part for the first player (Primo) is kept simpler than the accompaniment, so that various combinations of players are possible: student (melody) and teacher (accompaniment) or two students of different playing standards. Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) was greatly influenced by his contemporaries, Ravel, Debussy and Roussel, yet implemented his own, unique style.
