| Sinfonia IX: A Concert in the Park Concert band - Intermediate/advanced Manhattan Beach Music
Concert band - Grade 4 SKU: MH.1-59913-070-X Composed by Timothy Broege. ...(+)
Concert band - Grade 4 SKU: MH.1-59913-070-X Composed by Timothy Broege. Suitable for high school, community, and college bands. Conductor score and set of parts. Duration 10:00. Published by Manhattan Beach Music (MH.1-59913-070-X). ISBN 9781599130705. Program Notes: Stylistically diverse -- tranquil, spirited pastoral, sensitive, energetic -- exhibiting a remarkable palette, the five movements of SINFONIA IX form a unique symphonic statement. Movement I, Prelude, is about contrasts: A lazy, smooth, motive in brasses alternates with, and then joins, an active and detached motive in woodwinds. The spirited Movement II, Morley's Ghost, is an intricate canonic collage and homage to that venerable theoretician & composer, Thomas Morley. By contrast, movement III, Dialog, speaks in a relaxed, lyrical, and pastoral language as it develops its gently rising and falling motives. Movement IV, Waltz, innocently celebrates the joys of childhood with a lilting melody and rondo form. For the rousing Finale, Movement V begins with a martial call of repeated-notes, heralding a headstrong journey of power and excitement. Like a number of the composer's other works, SINFONIA IX is based on earlier material: A brass sextet, written in 1966 when the composer was nineteen years old, forms the raw material for the first, third and fifth movements, while a later work, Martin's Waltz (a children's piece for flutes and clarinets composed in 1975) is the basis of the fourth movement. The second movement, however, is a fanciful contrapuntal commentary on Thomas Morley's 16th-century canzonet, Fire and Lightning. SINFONIA IX is dedicated to John Raforth, a distinguished band director and music educator at West High School in Madison, Wisconsin. The work was commissioned by his friends and former students, and was completed in 1977. Its first publication some twenty years later is a result of the increasing attention paid by university band directors to the earlier Sinfonias, particularly Sinfonia III (Hymns and Dances); Sinfonia V (Sinfonia Sacra et Profana); and now, Sinfonia IX. Whereas the first two works are wind ensemble compositions that have been championed equally by the concert band, Sinfonia IX is the composer's first college-level Sinfonia written especially for concert band. Ensemble instrumentation: 1 Piccolo, 8 Flute 1-2, 2 Oboe, 1 Eb Clarinet, 4 Bb Clarinet 1, 4 Bb Clarinet 2, 4 Bb Clarinet 3, 3 Bb Bass Clarinet, 2 Bassoon, 4 Eb Alto Saxophone, 2 Bb Tenor Saxophone, 1 Eb Baritone Saxophone, 3 Bb Trumpet 1, 3 Bb Trumpet 2, 3 Bb Trumpet 3, 2 F Horn 1-2, 2 F Horn 3-4, 3 Trombone 1, 3 Trombone 2, 3 Baritone B.C., 2 Baritone T.C., 4 Tuba, 3 String Bass, 2 Timpani, 5 Percussion. $175.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

SATB choir, piano accompaniment - Intermediate SKU: GI.G-9958 Composed by Wayland Rogers. Children. Global Encounters for Young Choirs. Music Education. Octavo. 12 pages. GIA Publications #9958. Published by GIA Publications (GI.G-9958). UPC: 785147995807. English. Text Source: From I Loved You First, Christina Rossetti, 1830-1894, alt. Text by Christina Rossetti.  The English Romantic poet, Christina Rossetti (1830–1894), is chiefly known for her mystic religious lyrics. Her limited number of love poems are mostly of an unhappy nature, rather like objective expressions of happiness denied. A certain steely stoicism within her caused her to turn away from love twice in her lifetime with two separate men. There is no evidence of resolute refusal of love in this poem, however. Here she profusely proclaims her deep love for another. Wayland Rogers has set the last five lines of I Loved You First to music. The setting is an excerpt from his song cycle, I-Thou , which was commissioned and premiered by Fourth Coast Ensemble in Chicago in 2018. About the Series: Doreen Rao, 2019 Robert Shaw Award recipient, launches her culturally inclusive choral series, Global Encounters for Young Voices, featuring accessible treble- and mixed-voice works for developing choirs. $2.80 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Wind Orchestra (Score) - Grade 4 SKU: HL.4008703 Concert Band, Grade 4, 13:30 Score. Composed by Gauthier Dupertuis. FC Music Publishing. Concert Band. Softcover. Duration 810 seconds. Hal Leonard #FCMP002-SC. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.4008703). UPC: 196288190837. Stratoscape, by Swiss composer Gauthier Dupertuis, is a colorful and contrasting work for wind orchestra, depicting the view of our earth as seen from the stratosphere. This voyage into the sky is pictural, but also metaphorical, as it is also about distancing from our world. The work is divided into five sections: I Ignition!, II Broadness & The Big Blue, III Stars Shining from Down to Above, IV Destructive Forces, V One and Only Home Five contrasting movements, starting with Ignition in which Gauthier Dupertuis tries to musically convey the majesty of our planet seeing if from the atmosphere, ending with One and Only Hope, as the title say, a message of hope. In between three movements that depict the broadness of the landscapes of our planet (second movement), the fragility of our earth at night with only the stars shining (third movement). But also sheer reality in the fourth movement when the composer translates into music the damage caused toour planet by us human beings. Stratoscape: a fantastic view of Planet Earth! $67.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Propulsive rhythm and melody mark out turbid expressive territory in the first two pieces, while the third Stride explores 'glacial' octaves, and the fourth and fifth add new fantasy to a Bach sarabande and a chaconne. Specific technical challenges in each piece test the reflex and stamina of players of Grade 6 standard and above, who will also enjoy the impressive virtuoso impact Strides deliver in performance. $10.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

String Quartet SKU: HL.14028273 Composed by Cyril Scott. Music Sales America. Classical. Score. Music Sales #NOV261239. Published by Music Sales (HL.14028273). The String Quartet No.1 was composed in 1919, actually making it his fourth quartet, but it was the first to be published. It is scored in five movements: Prelude- Pastorale- Scherzo- Elegy- Rondo Retrospectivo. Cyril Scott (1879-1970) was a British composer, pianist and poet. His most popular works, by which he is largely remembered today, were written in the years preceding the Second World War, however he continued to compose prolifically, in the face of indifference from the outside world, right up until his death at the age of 91. His music is predominantly in the Romantic style, and serves as a tasteful reminder of abygone age. $21.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SKU: CA.2780300 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Edited by Uwe Wolf, Barbara Neumeier. Selva Morale E Spirituale. Salmi. Sacred vocal music, Mass sections, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Collection. 172 pages. Carus Verlag #CV 27.803/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2780300). ISBN 9790007171698. Today Monteverdi's Selva morale et spirituale (1641) stands entirely in the shadow of his famous Vespers 1610. The editions from 1610 and 1641 both include music for the Mass and Vespers, but each of these collections was composed under much different circumstances during Monteverdi's lifetime. If the works of 1610 are a bold combination of traditional compositional techniques and avant garde music, which were intended by this weary Court Composer at Mantua as an application portfolio for a new job, the 1641 collection is the only church music by the mature Monteverdi which was published after almost thirty years in his position as Music Director of St. Mark's Cathedral: the latter, a kind of best of collection from his many years of experience as a church musician. In Venice the composer had not only a fabulous, but a large ensemble at his disposal (finally, about 35 singers, alone)! The big effect in this music is the combination of soloistic and weighty tutti sections, it makes the music, with its clearly defined sections and, for the most part homophonic choral passages more easily performable than the Vespers for today's choirs. The new edition, comprised initially of three volumes, also includes those works from the Selva Morale (a Mass and two Magnificats) which have already been published by Carus, as well as all further liturgical compositions for use in the church. Salmi II contains the additional settings of the multiple settings of the psalms and also the psalm Memento (each of the first of the multiple settings of the psalms are to be found in the Salmi I volume). The edition is based on the methods employed in the much acclaimed Carus edition of the Vespers: - It contains a detailed foreword with suggestions for notation, scoring and for the liturgical use of individual compositions. - For the present edition four of the five surviving printed copies, as well as contemporary manuscript were consulted. Facsimiles illustrate special characteristics of the edition of 1641. A Critical Report makes clear all of the editorial decisions made in the edition. - All of the pieces are printed untransposed and using the original note values. - All of the pieces are available in single editions with complete performance material. - Vocal scores of all works with obbligato instruments facilitate rehearsal. - Instrumental parts for collaparte accompaniment of tutti-sections (including text underlay). $144.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
