When Jennaya Robinson visited Namibia, she discovered a wonderful composition with a warm message: â??Father, show me the mountain where I can climb to see your face, show me the way and world to dwell in your house and live in a house of peace...â? This is a compelling selection, well suited for both worship and concert programs. Its uniquely African sound will enthrall choirs and audiences alike.

Using a variety of percussion instruments and piano most effectively, Rosephanye has created a Christmas anthem that is grand and joyous. Beginning as softly as the title states, it eventually changes direction and builds to a glorious and strong finale. Her gift for melody, rhythmic motifs, and colorful harmonies come through as she unfold the Christmas story in song. Medium in difficulty.

This 5-movement, multi-media choral drama honors one of the great heroes of the emancipation era. The journey of those who sacrificed becomes a story we can relive and honor. Dr. Kean's goal was to compose and arrange original music and traditional spirituals in a style that is evocative of the enslaved Africans' frame of mind. The spirituals are accompanied with kalimba (thumb piano) to honor the sub-Saharan African musical tradition of connecting with ancestors and with the marimba to sound like the west African balafon. This is a work that will move an audience to tears. Medium to difficult. The Journey of Harriet Tubman has generated a much needed discussion of African American enslavement and and cultural appropriation. The composer has dedicated half of his royalties from this work to â??The Equal Justice Initiative,â? a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society. This is one of classic carols sung worldwide each Christmas. The original voicing of this arrangement is for SATB divisi choirs. This new voicing cleverly simplifies the parts so there is no divisi and added an appropriate optional drum part. Great for concert or worship. Easy level.
