This edition of the Organ Book by Nicolas de Grigny was edited by C. L. Koehlhoeffer. Featuring 43 pieces, this book uses pedals and other techniques that would be known by advanced players. The scores of the Organ Book were first published in 1699 under another name before being republished under this name in 1711. J. S. Bach corrected these initial editions, and his corrections arestill taken into account in this book. Organ Book is a good representation of the Organ music of the Louis XIV period. Nicolas de Grigny was a French organist living in theareaof Rheims, where he was the main Cathedral organist.

It is no coincidence that the Toccata from Widor's Vth Organ Symphony is his best-known composition. Who can resist its thrilling verve? Not only this, but also the other movements of this unique work of the organ repertoire win you over immediately - the first with its march-like, majestic, much-varied theme; the second with its wonderfully elegiac oboe melody, flowing along over staccato sixteenth notes; and the two slow movements, of which the melancholy, almost static Adagio forms the greatest contrast imaginable to the following triumphal Toccata. The Carus Urtext edition is based on the Paris edition of 1928/29, the last one to be published during Widor's lifetime. The corrections which the composer made after the publication of this edition have also been taken into consideration. As well as this, earlier editions have been consulted for comparison to clarify individual variant readings. Editorial suggestions on the performance of individual passages complete the new edition. From his Pater noster for soloists, choir and orchestra, written in the form of a cantata, in which the original Latin text is combined with the new German translation of the President of the Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, Stefan Heucke has taken an almost seven-minute German version for mixed choir and organ for practical use and newly arranged it.The text version of Norbert Lammert uses a direct and concise language which reinterprets several archaic expressions of the traditional translation: 'Dein Reich kommt, wenn dein Wille geschieht, auch auf Erden'. Stefan Heucke set the choral parts in major/minor-mode homophony in a deliberately simple way. The organ basically supports the choral setting and expands it rhythmically and harmonically now and then.

Anne Fuzeau Classique propose to discover our facsimiles' music in CD. Regis Allard, historical organ of Saint Michel de Bolbec (Calvados). Mass in the 8th tone for organ - Gaspard Corrette. Processional of the Royal Abbey of Chelles - Guillaume Gabriel Nivers. Romano-Monasticum Gradual - Guillaume Gabriel Nivers. Divine Office for use by the Ursuline Ladies of Dijon - Charles Derey. Improvised verses on the organ, Regis Alard. Alternating with Nivers's 'musical plainchant', Corrette's Mass sounds like a homage of the organ to itself, as it gracefully takes on the role of preacher of the Divine Cult. Regis Allard was trained by Andre Isoir and Michel Chapuis (for several years he had private lessons with the latter) as well as at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he graduated. He devotes himself exclusively to the interpretation of early music and participates in numerous events centred on historic instruments in France, Spain, Holland and northern Germany. He was a prize winner in the International Competition of French Music in Toulouse. His first disk, with pieces by Heinrich Scheidemann on the Arp Schnitger organ in the Stade church in northern Germany, received a Choc from Le Monde de la Musique. His latest recording, J. S. Bach's Art of the Fugue under the Hortus label performed on the new instrument of the church Saint Louis en l'isle in Paris, received critical praise. Ad Limina This group of women cantors, all trained in the Conservatory, themselves music teachers, choir directors, soloists, come from either side of the French-Swiss border, whence the name Ad Limina, which means 'at the border'. This ensemble pursues a novel exploration of the paths of religious music, from the baroque period to our day, with emphasis on Gregorian plainchant and European music from the 19th century to contemporary creation.

The two organ concertos are marked by somewhat unusual instrumentation. Hector Berlioz warned about a certain antipathy between the organ and orchestral instruments, but with the use of three horns in op. 137 proves to be a fine piece of artistry: Rheinberger supplied tone colors which he had perceived the organ to lack. The trio version of the Suite op. 149 adds to the repertoire of sacred chamber music. Rheinberger's later addition to the work of an ad libitum string orchestra takes this Suite into the world of the triple concerto and the concerto grosso, without exactly corresponding to those genres.

This work is an homage of Schneider to Max Reger:Organ Symphony No. 15 does not attempt to adapt Reger's style, which could hardly be made more intense or varied. On the contrary, with 'ardent reductionism' motifs, quotations and fragments are taken out of context like individually dazzling gems and illuminated anew: Reger is considered from a distance in order to approach the mystery of such a genius. Widor's early organ symphonies op. 13 have a quite special character because of their suite-like structure. The six-movement Symphony II also combines different types of movement in an unusual way; for example, it includes a Praeludium Circulare, which explores all the twelve keys, a Salve Regina based on the Gregorian antiphon of the same name, and a grand Toccata as the Finale, an interesting precursor of the famous Toccata from the 5th Symphony. The Carus edition is based on the Paris edition of 1928/29, the last one to be published during Widor's lifetime. Charles Gounod composed this Requiem under the impact of the death of his four-year-old grandson, Maurice. According to information handed down, while finishing the details of this work he was overtaken by death. It was published posthumously in various constellations by his pupil, Henri Busser, but the only complete version from the pen of Gounod is the version for large orchestra, which is published here for the first time in a critical edition. Gounod's Requiem, unlike many contemporary settings of the Mass of the Dead, is not characterized by darkness and terror. Rather, with all of its trepidation - expressed through a marked chromaticism - an atmosphere of hopeful expectation, of trust in the grace and equity of the divine judge predominates. This confidence finds its expression in the choice of the fundamental key of C major, which is rather unusual for a requiem. The work was given an impressive performance on the occasion of the first anniversary of Gounod's death in the Parisian church of Sainte-Madeleine under the direction of Gabriel Fauré and it was highly acclaimed by the contemporary press. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2731500.

As professor at the Munich Academy of Music, the German organist and composer Harald Feller (*1951) not only takes care of the young generation of musicians and is in the limelight as a soloist, but also adds to the organ repertoire by writing major new works. 'Te Deum' is based on the beginning of the Gregorian melody of the Ambrosian hymn. Using polyrhythmic structures, canonic elements and ostinato rhythms, Feller turns a small cell into ecstatic music in the praise of God - 'Te Deum': a powerful symphonic organ work!

The northern New Mexico landscape is replete with many churches and chapels which have served for centuries as a cornerstone of faith for the indigenous and colonial peoples. Each region and place of worship has its own colorful history, often the stuff of legend. Three Chapels (for organ manuals) takes its inspiration from the lore and history surrounding some of these holy sites. Chimayó is a place of pilgrimage and healing for the sick; Acoma a place of tension and fusion between two distinct cultural theologies; and Rosario a place of great ceremony for one week of the year Published by: Zimbel Press.

These four pieces could be considered a set of variations though the composer has spoken of them rather as photographs of the same object taken at different angles. The work as a whole is based on 'Tiento' by the Renaissance composer Antonio de Cabezon. Erkoreka suggests that his piece offers a new vision of the earlier piece. There is also a version for accordion.

Widor's early organ symphonies op. 13 have a quite special character because of their suite-like structure. And so the 4th Symphony delightfully combines classical forms such as toccata and fugue with Romantic character pieces. It includes the well-known Andante cantabile, which is one of the composer's most beautiful slow movements. The Carus edition is based on the last edition published during Widor's lifetime, issued Paris 1929. Corrections made by the composer after the edition of 1929 was published have been taken into consideration. In addition, for purposes of clarification, earlier print runs were consulted. Editorial suggestions on the performance of individual passages complete the edition.

The story of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor is of a rising star composer, one with a significant gift for melody and a simple lyricism, who embraced the previously unexplored song and dance forms from his father’s native west Africa and incorporated them into his own very European art music. Coleridge-Taylor began playing the violin at age five and by age fifteen wasadmitted to London’s Royal College of Music, where he studied both violin and composition and composed his first works. The simply-titled Melody is taken from Three Short Pieces for Organ - a set of pieces originally published in Novello’s Album for the Organ, No. 3 (1898). While certainly typical of the late 19th century, many of Coleridge-Taylor's creations display inspiration by African musical elements much like spirituals inspired Dvořák’s “New World†Symphony.

Though the work bearing this title is a portrait of childhood, it is a childhood quite different from the purely gameplaying and dreamlike childhood that is customarily represented. The childhood described here is carrying the seed, in all its purity, of all positive and negative qualities to be found the fully-grown men: a childhood both angelic and diabolical, and indeed very close to Henry James' The Turn of the Screw which was the direct inspiration for this monodrama. Its growth follows the innumerable sudden changes, turns and contrasts of the unsophisticated spirit. There is hardly any development at all, as each idea gives birth to the next or rejects the previons one, being object to every impulse, every tempest, every flux, every fear and delight. After a dreamlike introduction, in which two simple melodies stand out, comes a sudden awakening, Allegro, stamped all over with lavish and forever regenerating dynamism. A sudden halt leads a kind of outburst from the most simple folklore is singing, in regular, repeated notes. Again the question mark leads us to another melody, Tranquillo, of a sweet tempo, but brilliantly decorated with counter-point, its cursive traits leading this time to a kind of roguish march (Vigoroso).Yet soon there emerges a melancholic chant, Largo, in the Cromorne's timbre, and then, in the highest register of the Trumpet there reappears like a metamorphosed memory, the theme of the second movement. Passing other episodes, we come to Tempo giusto, insistent and glorious, interrupted by other passionate figures, cut off by unsettling silent moments and taken up again in always accelerating volleys.
