The poems of Dylan Thomas are famous because they touch the depth of the heart. Nick Strimple's setting of this poem has special personal meaning following the death of his brother. This poem honors the passion of creating art in a dramatic way. The ostinato pattern Strimple incorporates beautifully grounds the piece and concludes it with lingering and longing. The music is conceived by the text and does so masterfully with a piano accompaniment that is more reminiscent of an orchestration. An excellent concert piece for advanced high school and college ensembles.

The Paiute Indian words are a cry of pain and loss that would be true for any father who lost his son. But the Indian imagery brings us outside and touches us inside. Strimple's musical writing is not multicultural but contemporary and incorporates modern western harmonies. This makes sense when you realize Dr. Strimple's tribute is to honor his teacher and friend, Robert H. Young. It is a touching musical and textual statement. Difficult.

Pange Lingua gloriosi is one of several settings by Jiri Ropek of St. Thomas Aquinas' famous communion hymn, written c. 1264 for the institution of the new feast of Corpus Christi. The original piece was composed in a-minor, but transposed down for practical performance reasons by Ropek. Duration 3:00.

Nick Strimple has composed a set of three easy anthems, and lacking in difficulty is absolutely true. But elegant and distinguished also describes these settings of familiar texts. The words by 19th century English poet John Bowring is the least known text, but it is timeless and speaks of God's enduring love. The organ accompaniment contains scrumptious suspensions and resolutions for an anthem that works equally well as a choral piece, a solo, or for unison choir.
