Rued Langgaard (1893-1952) is one of the most important Danish composers of the 20th century. Langgaard’s piano compositions are evenly spread out over his 50 productive years from 1902 to 1951. Generally speaking hispiano music represents the entire broad spectrum of expression and the stylistic diversity one finds in his music. Some of the most personal works he created are to be found among the piano works, e.g. Insectarium (1917), Music ofthe Abyss (1921-24), Insanity Fantasy (1914-49) and Le Béguinage (1948-49). In many of the works, however, nostalgic and romantic moods of expression are predominant.
This publication presents Langgaard’spianomusic in its entire range. The three volumes comprise 26 works and 44 individual piano pieces. Only 11 of the compositions have previouslybeen published.

Frederic Chopin's Piano Concertos in e minor op. 11 and f minor op. 21 were written when the composer had just barely entered his twenties. Since he needed effective, virtuoso works for his major concert appearances with orchestral accompaniment, he decided to simply write them himself. Although it is clear that the piano part always holds center stage in these pieces, Chopin never degrades the orchestra by turning it into a stereotypical cue-giver. This is confirmed by the imaginatively orchestrated tutti transition in the first movement, the lengthy string tremolo in the middle movement and the col legno passage in the finale. The first performance of the f-minor concerto took place in Warsaw on 17 March 1830. The first edition of the score was published in 1879 by Breitkopf & Hartel in Leipzig. Ralph Sauer has transcribed six of Mendelssohn's many Songs Without Words for Euphonium. Mendelssohn wrote eight volumes of songs for the Piano throughout his life. These pieces became popular immediately because of their beauty and accessibility technically . The Songs are mostly lyrical and of utmost beauty. Brahms was one of the great masters of Romantic choral music: not only did he sense how to create a good sound with the human voice, but through the choirs he himself conducted he gained great experience and skill in vocal composition. Alongside large-scale choral works for large forces he also composed a capella pieces to poems by contemporary poets (Rückert and Goethe, for instance), and to the words of German folk songs. Six of these works were selected and translated into Hungarian by Dr. Károly Vargha (1914-1993), who also translated the German texts of several great composers such as Bach, Haydn, and Händel. These six works for mixed choir are published here in twobooks, edited by Lajos Bárdos.

The three piano sonatas by Joachim Raff (1822-1882), representing his three main creative phases, occupy a special position among his more than 100 piano pieces. They reflect a significant compositional aspiration whereas Raff otherwise frequently leans towards the salon-music genre in his piano music. Raff composed the early sonata op. 14 in 1844 after his first works were positively evaluated and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy had encouraged him to venture a career as a composer. The Fantasie-Sonate [Fantasy Sonata] in d minor op. 168, Raff wrote in 1871 at the height of his fame as one of Germany's then most-played composers. Its dedication to Camille Saint-Saens shows his opposition to the rampant German disapproval of France and its music representatives in the wake of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870/71. The second version of the sonata op. 14, composed in the fall of 1881, had only the opus number in common with the earlier version. In this late work Raff had created an entirely new sonata. ,,Beautifully presented on cream paper, with exceptional clarity and generous spacing.
