The Five Pieces in Folk Style by Schumann were originally written for Cello and Piano. They have been expertly transcribed for Euphonium by Ralph Sauer, retired Principal Trombonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The five movements are in contrasting styles and work very well for Euphonium. Schumann was considered the Poet of the Romantics. This music is expressive and full of robust and elegant phrases. For moderately advanced performers. The complete work is almost 17 minutes in length and can be a major work on your concert. Parts are supplied for bass and treble clef readers.

Granados was a Spanish composer whose music had the unique style of his homeland burned into his soul. He was also a very talented painter in the style of Goya.

The Two Dances, 1. Oriental and 2. Fandango are taken from the 12 danzas espanolas, volume I from 1890, for Piano.

Mr. Sauer has brilliantly taken the solo Piano part and divided it between solo Euphnium and Piano.

Euphonium performers will enjoy working on this style of Spanish Nationalist music of which there is none in the solo repertoire.

The Two Dances (in tenor clef) are about 6 1/2 minutes in length and can be performed by advanced musicians.

Originally for solo piano, the Fifteen Moravian Folksongs are remarkable for their musicality as well as their brevity - the only notated, repeated passage in the entire work is in Number 5. Because Janacek included the text in his piano score (with no indication that it should be sung), and the fact that there are, in many cases, indications that the text is only a first verse, I have included some additional repeats.

Scenes From Childhood (Kinderscenen), Opus 15 is a set of 13 pieces of music that Schumann wrote for Piano in 1838. They are his reminiscences of childhood and have been beautifully scored for Euphonium & Piano by Ralph Sauer. The most well known of the movements is Tråumerei (Dreaming) and has been used in movies to portray love scenes because of its tenderness and beauty.

The music is appropriate for advanced performers and the collection contains close to 20 minutes of some very sublime and poetic music. Any of these pieces can be inserted into a recital program.

Debussy's beautiful work Reverie, originally for Piano was written in the late 19th Century and is ripe with his Impressionist style. One can hear the water lapping against the shore as the glorious melody soars above. Mr. Sauer brings this all to life with his arrangement for moderately advanced performers. Danses Roumaines by Canteloube are six Romanian dances for Piano written in 1930 after folk songs collected by Michel Vulpesco.

The composer is best known for his collection of orchestrated folksongs from the Auvergne region of France titled Chants d'Auvergne
