A selection of jazz pieces arranged for Keyboard and Guitar (both chord symbols and tablatures are included). For every piece you will find three versions:

• A simplified version: with the melody in the right hand and an easy accompanying line in the left hand (for beginners)
• A version for organ: with the melody in the right hand, chords in the left, and bass line for the pedal
• a version for solo piano for use with the piano or keyboard (medium difficulty)

• VOICE: It is possible to use the version contained in the CD for singing the pieces. The texts are found in the sheets inserted at the end of the volume and themelodies are given in the keyboard parts (right hand)
• GUITAR: All the guitar boxes for the chords are given in the single sheets inserted at the end of the volume. The sheet for each piece contains, besides the guitar chords, the text and a table with the melodic line (right hand) of the keyboard versions.
• OTHER INSTRUMENTS: It is also possible to play the melody parts or to improvise with other instruments such as flute, violin, etc. It should be noted that for instruments such as the clarinet or the saxophone the melodies will have to be transposed. This volume is the first of two intended to extend the coverage of keyboard music in Musica Britannica comprehensively into the first quarter of the 17th century. (The other, MB102, includes material from the two virginal books in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.) The present edition contains music by anonymous and a dozen or so named composers, including the complete keyboard works of Nicholas Carleton, the surviving twenty 'Miserere' canons by Thomas Woodson, and the anonymous 'Pretty ways for young beginners to look on'. The 77 complete pieces are organised by genre, including preludes, plainsong settings, voluntaries, dances and character pieces. Drawing on 22 manuscripts which mostly also transmit music by Byrd and other noted virginalists, this residue of music from these sources shows great diversity and a pleasing level of technical skill and musical interest, sufficient to enhance our wider view of English Renaissance music.

At the heart of George Berg’s oeuvre are his seven collections of keyboard music. His sonatinas for harpsichord were a by-product of his teaching, appearing in three volumes between 1759 and 1762. Technically fairly simple, these are lively, inventive and finely polished works. Berg’s sonatinas are as well suited to the piano as the harpsichord sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti from which they draw so much inspiration, provided that the player makes sparing (or no) use of the sustaining pedal and avoids over-fussy dynamic variation.
