With the publication of the first collective, scholarly edition of the a cappella works of Sándor Veress (1907-1992), the publishers were paying a long-standing debt in the Veress centenary year. Volume I contains all the already published works for children s, female and male choirs, together with those of the works of his mature period preserved in manuscript which have attained their definitive form: seven choral cycles or suites, and five single-movement works. The musical concept of the mainly 3- or 4-movement Hungarian folksong suites and cantatas is closely akin to that of the composer s instrumental folksong series written at the same time. Also included in thevolume are a musical setting of Sándor Pet fi s poem Orbán and arrangements of two Swiss folksongs and a children s song of American origin (Mary had a little lamb). Mit der von wissenschaftlichem Anspruch geprägten Veröffentlichung der ersten Sammelausgabe der Chorwerke von Sándor Veress (1907-1992) im Jahre des Veress-Zentenariums 2007 tilgte der Verlag alte Schulden. Der erste Band beinhaltet neben allen schon früher publizierten Kinder-, Frauen- und Männerchören auch als Manuskript erhalten gebliebene, ausgereifte Werke, die über eine endgültige Form verfügen: sieben Chorzyklen bzw. Chorsuiten und fünf einsätzige Werke. Das musikalische Konzept der großteils 3-4-sätzigen Volksliedsuiten und -Kantaten ist eng mit den zur selben Zeit komponierten instrumentalen Volksliedserien des Komponisten verwandt. Weitere Bestandteile desBandes sind die Vertonung des Gedichts Orbán von Sándor Pet fi und die Bearbeitung der zwei schweizerischen Volkslieder sowie eines aus Amerika stammenden Kinderliedes (Mary Had a Little Lamb).

Hungary has a thousand-year-old tradition of reverence for the Virgin Mary. In the course of the centuries the Church has found more and more occasions for the celebration of Mary. The greatest is the celebration of Mary?s assumption into heaven, which coincides with the anniversary of the death of Saint Stephen, on August 15. The texts of these choral works originate from various supplicatory prayers from the office, vocal texts and hymns. The six choral works don?t form a cycle, since the texts are associated with different liturgies. The choruses: Regina caeli ? antiphon for Easter, Sub tuum praesidium ? antiphon, Maria Mater gratiae ? short hymn, Ave Regina caelorum ?antiphon for Lent, Ave maris stella ? Hymn to Mary, Virgo parens Christi benedicta ? responsorium, can be sung singly or in any combination.

Frauenliebe was completed in Paris in June 2010 and premiered in Venice at the La Fenice theatre by both recipients on March 14, 2011. Nearly 20 years after Frauenleben, subtitled '9 lieder for viola and orchestra', here is Frauenliebe, 10 lieder for viola and piano. And once again, the question comes up of why this title for a piece that never quotes from the celebrated song cycle. To me, this title has two distinct meanings. It first refers to myself as a woman (Frau), seen through my life (Leben) and now, more specifically, through my love life (Liebe). But it should also be taken simply as a tribute to the great lied tradition so masterfully illustrated by Schumann, and which represents an important part of my musical background. I must finally point out that the viola, (which I like to call 'this great singer') happens to be, ever since my adolescent years, one of my favorite instruments. BJ.

In 1916, as part of the series Az elemi zongorajáték gyakorlati tananyaga [Practical Repertory for Elementary Piano Playing], Rózsavölgyi & Co. published Bartók's selection of twelve pieces from the collection usually given the title Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach. A revised 1923 edition added one more piece. The contents of our edition are an identical reprint of the 1923 version, including Bartók's in-depth preface in both Hungarian and German and the footnotes he added to the individual pieces (also provided here in an English translation).Johann Sebastian Bach gave his second wife Anna Magdalena two manuscript music-books which contain, besides his own works,compositions by other contemporaries. The present selection includes 13 pieces from the second book (dated to 1725). In der beim Budapester Musikverlag Rózsavölgyi & Co. erschienenen Reihe Az elemi zongorajáték gyakorlati tananyaga [Praktischer Lehrstoff des elementaren Klavierspiels] wurde 1916 eine aus 12 Stu cken bestehende Auswahl Béla Bartóks aus der unter dem Titel Notenbu chlein fu r Anna Magdalena Bach bekannten Sammlung veröffentlicht. Deren im Jahre 1923 veröffentliche revidierte Ausgabe wurde durch ein weiteres Stu ck ergänzt. Der Inhalt der vorliegenden Ausgabe deckt sich mit dem der Edition das Jahres 1923 (die Noten bringen wir als Reprint) einschließlich des Vorworts Bartóks in ungarischer und in deutscher Sprache sowie seiner Randnotizen zu den einzelnen Stu cken, die wir auch in englischer Übersetzung wiedergeben.
Johann Sebastian Bach schenkte seiner zweiten Frau, Anna Magdalena, zwei handgeschriebene Notenhefte, in die er neben eigenen Werken auch Stu cke anderer zeitgenössischer Komponisten aufnahm. Die vorliegende Auswahl beinhaltet die 13 Stu cke des im Jahr 1725 erstellten zweiten Heftes.

The Richard Wagner Complete Edition presents the composer's entire output for the first time in a reliable form. The conductor Michael Balling, in the early years of the 20th century, attempted to make Wagner's work more accessible for research and performance, but the edition only reached 10 volumes - some with grave shortcomings - and was discontinued after Balling's death in 1925. A further attempt at a complete edition by Otto Strobel was abandoned at the preliminary stages.This third attempt at a complete edition will be the first scholarly, critical edition, based on an evaluation of all the accessible source materials and the latest findings of serious Wagner research. As the edition is also intended for practical performance, the musical text has been kept free of philological insertions; these are listed in the appendices of each volume in the Critical Commentary. Numerous, partly unpublished works - some relatively unknown - and variant versions are published here for the first time. The edition presents authentic texts for Wagner specialists and researchers and critically based performing materials. We owe it to Paul Hindemith's interest in education, which, in turn, was owed not only to the professional musicians and composers, that he composed for children and amateur musicians as well. Dame Music stands for this dialogue to make contemporary music for amateurs accessible not only in theory but also in practice. Dame Music was composed during his stay in the USA after he had been asked for an American edition of his composition Frau Musica. Musik zum Singen und Spielen auf Instrumenten nach einem Text von Luther, Op. 45 No. 1 from 1928. In 1942 he wrote the successful American version Dame Music for which Hindemith also revised some instrumental parts. The vocal setting was adopted without any changes and its text translated into English. With great success: Within just a few years, Dame Music had been included in the repertoire of amateur musicians in the United States.
