The 'Admiral Spirit' is the pride of the Navy. The ship is at sea, there is no wind, the sun is shining. The crew are busy piloting the ship into port in prime condition. The admiral himself will inspect the vessel.
The first movement (Allegro Con Spirito) gives musical expression to the majestic ship and its toiling crew.
In the second movement (Andante), the ship sails into port. It has been polished and technically everything is in order. The admiral will be proud when he inspects the ship.
Third movement (Allegro Molto): the captain and his crew are nervous (modulations) while working at the 'finishing touch'. The Navy Band is ready to receive the admiral !. Hemay be proud of his flagship.

De bemanning van het marineschip Admiral Spirit is druk bezig om het schip in optimale conditie de haven binnen te loodsen, de admiraal gaat namelijk het schip zelf inspecteren.
In het eerste deel (Allegro con spirito) horen weeen verklanking van het majestueuze schip en de zwoegende bemanning. Hoe beeldend zijn de emmertjes water welke overboord gaan (trombones).
In het tweede deel (Andante) vaart het schip de haven binnen. Het schip is gepoetsten technisch is alles in orde.
Derde deel (Allegro molto): De kapitein en zijn bemanning zijn nerveus (modulaties) en er wordt aan de finishing touch gewerkt. De Navy Band staat klaar om de admiraal te ontvangen! De admiraal kantrots zijn op het vlaggenschip.
Een schitterend speelwerk voor de lagere afdelingen!

Grieg’s suite from ‘Sigurd Jorsalfar’ remains one of his most popular works and here, arranged by Wil van der Beek, we are pleased to be able to offer a version for Concert Band. This one will be a sure-fire hit with any fans of classical music.

In 1872 - Twee jaar voor hij Peer Gynt gegon te werken - componeerde Grieg de muziek bij het toneelstuk Sigurd Jorsalfar (Sigurd de kruisvaarder) van Bjørnsterne Bjørnsons. Enkele jaren later voegde hij de drie belangrijksteorkestgedeelten samen tot een gelijknamige concertsuite. In The King's Hall is overigens de orkestversie van een inn 1867 door Grieg geschreven gavotte voor viool en piano. Wil van der Beek schreef de versie voor armonieorkest.

In der Königshalle erweckt die Atmosphäre der historischen Szenerie, in der sich das mittelalterliche Drama Sigurd Jorsalfar abspielt, zum Leben. Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson influença profondément la littérature norvégienne du XIXème siècle. En 1872, Grieg écrivit une musique de scène pour la nouvelle pièce de thé tre de son ami, intitulée Sigurd Jorsalfar (‘‘Sigurd, le croisé’’). La musique comporte huit pièces, dont deux chorals. Three Washington Statues was commissioned by the United States Army Band â??Pershings Ownâ?, led by Colonel Thomas H. Palmatier. Washington D.C. contains some of the worldâ??s most iconic monuments, memorials and statues. Philip Sparke has chosenthree of these as the inspiration for this piece: â??The Lincoln Memorialâ?? in the form of a Greek Doric temple in which the composer depicts the grandeur of this monument; â??The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorialâ?? on which steps the iconic speech â??I havea dreamâ?? was given - the music is both reverential as well as powerful referring to Martin Luther Kingsâ?? speech; and the â??Encoreâ?? statue in memory of the world famousAfrican-American composer, pianist and bandleader Duke Ellington. In this finalmovement, Philip Sparke catches the virtuosic, energetic and unique dynamism of Ellingtonsâ?? music.
