| Notebook for Johann Christian Bach Piano solo - Intermediate Peters
Piano SKU: PE.EP11503 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Masterworks; Pia...(+)
Piano SKU: PE.EP11503 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Masterworks; Piano - Intermediate / Advanced Collection; Piano Resources. Baroque; Classical; Masterwork. Book. 112 pages. Edition Peters #98-EP11503. Published by Edition Peters (PE.EP11503). ISBN 9790014127084. The Notebook for Johann Christian Bach completes the collection of surviving instructional works from within the Bach family, following the highly praised Notebooks for Anna Magdalena and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. Together, Bach's Notebooks provide a fascinating glimpse into the domestic music academy of the Bach family home. They contain original compositions, exercises, and model examples by other composers, all collected with a view to providing a rounded musical education to family members. Presented as a luxury linen-bound edition with gold-embossed cover lettering, illustrations and critical commentary, this volume includes pieces not featured in previous collections.
This first Urtext edition Notebook for Bach's son Johann Christian has been reconstructed by renowned Bach scholar Christoph Wolff from copies from the estate of C.P.E. Bach. It includes pieces for keyboard by J.S. Bach, Johann Christian's initial attempts at composition (minuets and polonaises), and pieces by the older brothers Carl Philipp Emanuel and Johann Christoph Friedrich and son-in-law Johann Christoph Altnickol. The collection is completed by two sets of short preludes and fughettas from Bach's early Leipzig teaching practice, which may have come from other lost notebooks for his family, possibly the one for C.P.E. Bach.
Clavier-Büchlein für Johann Christian Bach

| Zoli Kocsis's Manuscript book Piano solo [Sheet music + CD] EMB (Editio Musica Budapest)
Piano SKU: BT.EMBZ15000N Facsimile numbered edition with CD. Compo...(+)
Piano SKU: BT.EMBZ15000N Facsimile numbered edition with CD. Composed by Gyorgy Kurtag. Book with CD. Composed 2016. 122 pages. Editio Musica Budapest #EMBZ15000N. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ15000N). English-Hungarian. In the autumn of 1974 György Kurtág began to copy selected pieces from the series Games into a music notebook for Zoltán Kocsis who was his student in earlier years and who, throughout his entire life, was one of its most authentic performers. Kocsis played from this notebook in the first public performance of Games in 1974. The gradually expanding series of piano pieces also appeared in print in the course of later decades however, he always used this collection - expanded over 32 years since by Kurtág - whenever he played pieces from Games in concert. Since the time of this 1974 concert, as Kocsis wrote later: ''I didn't know that the spiral notebook I received at thepremiere would later become, as it were, my permanent companion. That I would take it with me from Japan to Canada, from Australia to Iceland, travelling to the world's most prominent concert halls, surviving fire damage, flood, transport catastrophes, theft attempts, forced landings and so on, and that - well beyond the intention of its being 'copied with love' - it would include works and sketches for which this notebook would become the principal source.''The manuscript gives a glimpse into Kurtág's workshop from the viewpoint of both performers and musicologists. The former can understand more from Kurtág's handwriting about the composer's intentions than from the printed score. The musicologists, however, can study the historical origins of the works: some works can be found here in more than one version, others appear in a version different from the printed score. The publication is accompanied by a booklet and a CD supplement. The booklet contains Kocsis's own personal preface, as well as András Wilheim's essay providing information about the collection and the pieces contained therein. On the CD we hear 11 works performed by Kocsis, from a recording made in 1982 which has not previously been commercially issued. $102.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks | | |

SKU: BR.EB-9387 Composed by Christian Mason. Edition Breitkopf. New music (post-2000); Music post-1945. Set of parts. Composed 2019. Duration 20'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9387. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9387). ISBN 9790004188576. 0 x 0 inches. Commissioned by the Kolner Philharmonie (KolnMusik) for the non bthvn projekt 2020 and the Cite de la musique / Philharmonie de Paris Dedicated to Arditti Quartet Each movement of this quartet explores a single state, its lights and its shadows. Each movement, you could say, is a moment . And these moments could last for more or less time without compromising their essential nature. The processes could be extended or compressed, repeated or reversed, but the core ideas - if they are ideas, but maybe they are simply experiences? - are what they are. Despite this, the precise sequence of movements matters a great deal. Heard together they do articulate some kind of linear narrative, maybe even a metaphorical journey (albeit a circular one where the arrival might, who knows, prove to be a new departure). One situation gives way to another and instrumental relationships within the quartet vary, but ultimately the imaginative impulse behind the piece preferences states of unity. Whether or not this unity is expressed texturally - sometimes literal unisons pervade, but not always - there is generally a sense that even seemingly diverse aspects relate to a fundamental condition of concord: a conscious limitation in the pitch structure to spectral emanations of the root notes E-flat and C. At the opening this is unambiguously audible in the perpetual alternation of these two notes in the low cello register. Later the two spectra are woven into a micro-tonal 'double-spectral-mode' (derived from the first 24 partials of the C and E-flat fundamentals), which defines the subtle melodic inflection of the second movement, and the never-quite-chromatic ascending scales of the third. For now this feels like a rich source of melodic possibility, so far only just glimpsed... And why the insistence on E-flat? Probably by way of historical anecdote. Apparently Karl Holz (a member of the Schuppanzigh Quartet) said to Beethoven: We performed your Quartet in E-flat Op. 127 in his [Weber's] honour; he found the Adagio too long; but I told him: Beethoven also has a longer feeling and a longer imagination than anyone standing or not standing today. - Since then, even Linke (another member of the quartet) can no longer stand him: we cannot forgive him for this. Listening again to Op. 127, in light of these comments, I was struck by the opening moment: the unfolding of an E-flat 7th chord over the course of a few bars. Every time I hear it I find myself wishing that Beethoven would have lingered longer there, without resolution or progression, just enjoying that sonority. And maybe - why not? - tune the 7th naturally. And what would it be to stretch that moment into an entire piece? What would Weber think of that?! In the end I was not so extreme in my self-limitation, and other concerns took over, but it was from these thoughts that the composition process began... Lastly, about the title: it comes from a book called 'The Clock of the Long Now' by Stewart Brand, published at the turn of the millennium. It's about the creation of a thousand-year clock to embody the aspiration to thinking in terms of longer time-spans than are presently habitual. If the music of Beethoven embodied a 'longer' feeling and imagination than some of his contemporaries were able to appreciate, what is our relation to time now? Longer or shorter? Maybe it depends who you ask... It's probably more extreme in both directions: attention spans might be diminishing in the digital world, but conversely there is an awareness of distant pasts and potential futures which would have been inconceivable at the time of Beethoven. In any case, the interesting thing is to ponder how societal conditions, assumptions and expectations might - whether consciously or unconsciously - influence the time of art, for listeners and creators alike. And what if time is running out? (Christian Mason)

Greatly influenced by the John Fischer book of the same title,On a Hill Too Far Awayis a clarion call to His church to bring the cross back to the center of our faith. Now with all new drama and a full length DVD that brings the Cross front and center in poignant images. It is the story of Calvary. While it may seem that all of this occurred on a hill too far away, too far removed from our life to speak to us, we cannot stand in the distance and expect to experience the magnitude of the cross. We must draw near. We must face what we can never understand. We must confront the ravaged spotless Lamb to gain just a glimpse of our stain of sin. The cross cannot be explained away. The cross cannot be ignored. The cross cannot be stripped of its cruelty and shame. The cross cannot and will not be denied. The invitation stands- come to the place of mercy and grace. It is the way of the cross that leads us home.Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
