Here is the second movement from JS Bach's beautiful “Magnificat.” This music soars and lies beautifully in the voice. With only eight Latin words making up the text, rehearsal time can be dedicated to vowel uniformity, breath, phrasing and discovering Baroque style.

Sing the Stories of God's New People is the third volume of songs for the very youngest singers, ages four to seven, offering twenty-five songs based on stories and writings in Acts, the Epistles, and Revelation. As with the two preceding volumes, this third volume can be used with young choral singers as well as a part of a church school curriculum. The tunes are short and memorable; the lyrics are written in simple language and focus on a key idea in each story. When the story-songs are coordinated with the Revised Common Lectionary, the songs provide an opportunity for young children to provide music for congregational worship that is relevant and meaningful.Included in the collection are piano accompaniments, a CD recording with both a full chorus and accompaniment versions, as well as creative suggestions for teaching the songs.

The cantata Ich freue mich in dir was first performed during Bach's second year as Thomaskantor, on the 3rd day of Christmas, and belongs to the so-called annual cycle of chorale cantatas. Here the focus of the composition is the hymn of the same name by Philipp Ziegler, in which the first and final strophes were adopted, word for word, in the first and sixth movements of the cantata. The soprano, which carries the chorale, is supported by the conrnett (Zink), which already at this time had become a seldom-used instrument. The joyful, lively choral movement with instrumental interludes directly follows the first aria, and begins with a marked, ascending motive at the word Getrost! (safely). The oboes d'amore which accompany the alto lend the movement a special color. In the second aria (for soprano), Bach again shows himself to be the master of text interpretation. The words Wie lieblich klingt es in den Ohren are emphasized in an exchange between open strings and sixteenth note figures. Score available separately - see item CA.3113300.

The Mass of St. Patrick, was commissioned for the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the founding of Ballintubber Abbey, famously known as the abbey that “refused to die.†As with so many of Liam Lawton’s compositions, his gift for melody grows out of the rich, lyric music tradition of his native Ireland. Unmistakably Celtic in style, the the mass features simple harmonic textures which are enhanced by a C Instrument part woven throughout. The mass is set primarily in D major, making it accessible for Irish traditional instruments. The Mass of St. Patrick is a pleasing setting that your congregation will enjoy singing.
