Following the huge success of their instrumental method Look, Listen & Learn, Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles.
Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists, aged eight and above.
Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world, music schools, and academies in the Netherlands and Germany.
Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The clarinet lessons offer clarinet -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band, with a focus on rhythm, melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Volume Two builds on the skills taught in the first volume and introduces pieces in three parts.In addition, supplementary material is available on the extensive website, e.g. demo- and accompaniment tracks for all pieces, additional pieces of music (well-known songs) and video tutorials. “Published in 1953, the Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra was composed by the French composer, conductor and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1927, Henri Tomasi (1901-1971). This concerto was dedicated to Ulysse Delécluse (1907-1995), a French Clarinettist known for his transcription of 'Quinze études' by J. S. Bach for the clarinet. Each of its three movements were chosen to be the examination pieces at the Paris Conservatoire, the first movement for the Examination Solo in 1953 and the second and third for the Contest Solo in 1966. This concerto begins with an unconventional start, the clarinet playing on its own and being joined later by the orchestra. It also contains some unusual material such as polychords and dissonances through the piece. Notes on this concerto by Henri Tomasi himself were written in 1957, describing the importance of the improvisation for the principal topic.â€.

Forsyth's Modern Wind Music is a series of volumes containing exciting and challenging, but not unduly difficult, works by talented English composers of current or recent vintage for recital, study or recreation. Each volume includes three works with piano, one unaccompanied piece, and one piece for two or more players of the instrument. In this volume for clarinet John Casken's 'Taerset' takes its title from Tarset in Northumberland, inspired by a holiday there, while Julia Usher's 'Subsequent Darkness' is inspired by a game of chess. The solo work is a capricious 'Arabesque' by Richard Orton, who also contributes a quartet for clarinets that plays on diaphragm articulation. David Ellis's 'Berceuse' is an extended lullaby, but not without its troubled dreams.

Night Music The clarinet in Clifford Odets's comedy Night Music is directly involved in the stage plot: it is played by the main character and characterizes his moods and actions. The composer Hanns Eisler's estate contains several clarinet solos coming from the play's context; the most challenging of these is the Moment Musical (called that only later), evidently deleted by the composer in favor of alternatives that were easier to play. Two such alternatives are reproduced in the appendix to this first edition. All three works are suitable for pedagogical practice as well as for concert performance, thanks to their sometimes brilliant, sometimes pensive musicality, together with their exemplary musical quality.
