This composition was created for young musicians (mostly teenagers), and will be played as a pop song. Indeed, its texture (silky and polished) is related to the use of triplets and harmonic series built on the principle of 'verse / chorus'. Its tempo (close to the human body beat) and duration (3 minutes) will make it the hit of the summer!

Mendelssohn's expressive Sonata No. 1 for Cello, Opus 45 was composed in October 1838.The Sonata has three movements and works beautifully for Euphonium. This 25-minute work for advanced performers, all in bass clef, is a wonderful composition and is a great test of musicianship, stamina and technique for both performers.Mendelssohn's Sonata has been brilliantly transcribed by Ralph Sauer.Format: Score & solo part are in booklet format - 56 pages total.

As the title suggests the work dying and dancing for Euphonium solo and Piano accompaniment is in two parts, which are played without a pause between the two.The first part, an adagio, is not necessarily meant to be evocative of the actual act of passing away, but more perhaps of the contemplation and reflection upon one's life as that time approaches, and particularly of sorrow over regret and disappointment. The unsettled mood of the music reflects this bitterness, and stands in contrast to the expansive peace of the grave, heard at the beginning and end of the adagio.Dance, with ironic wit, the second part, is the other side of the same coin; perhaps humor of the gallows describes its spirit. At once fatalist and mocking, it brings to mind the words of the ancient teacher Koheleth, The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. I was pleased to compose dying and dancing in 2013 for Mark Kellogg, a superb Euphonium artist and my former trombone iProfessor at the Eastman School of Music.

In a Cotton Club mood. The chasse-croise of quarter notes and eight notes triplets together with Piano incite to dance and remind us of cabarets' ambiance of the 1920s. This piece, coupled with a faster one is an ideal combination to propose for end of first cycle exam.

The title of this Piece is a pun on Cubans rhythms. The opposition between the tone and used homonymous tone, as well as the rhythmic formula chosen on theme B are a typical feature of South America music. Concerning the melody, it is a stylistics composition on quarter note triplets!

A rhythmic composition in which the cells quaver / two semiquaver and two semiquaver / quaver are like a leitmotiv until the end of the Piece. The numerous triplets are a wink of Rhapsody in Blues from George Gershwin. My goal was to facilitate the listening, the exchange and the mimicry between the two associated players: no tandem (Temps d'M) without that!

Faure is well known for his lyricism and haunting harmonies. In a way, he was the father of French Impressionist music. The Serenade, Opus 98 was originally written for the great 20th century Cellist, Pablo Casals.Mr. Ralph Sauer has kept the arrangement in the same key as the Cello. The work is playable by advanced performers. This arrangement is another example of Mr. Sauer's excellent feel for the subtleties of the composer's style.
