Three Sound-Poems after Paintings by Andreas Willscher (2017) are dedicated to organist Philip Hartmann and the art-loving community of the Pauluskirche in Ulm, Germany. The music is inspired by three paintings by German composer (and artist) Andreas Willscher (b. 1955). The pieces take their musical shapes and colors from the specific details of the paintings. The three paintings represent different styles: a landscape, a religious theme, and an abstract. The first movement, Sonnenfeld (Sun Field), is inspired by a bright painting of the sun illuminating the green field behind the composer's small house in Sainte-Radegonde (Dordogne/Perigord, France). A resplendent and majestic section of full sun harmonies surrounds a middle section with more motion. The second movement, Gebet des Hl. Franziskus (Prayer of St. Francis), is inspired by a painting showing St. Francis of Assisi in prayer. Francis has been a frequent theme in Willscher's music since his appointment at a young age as organist of St. Francis Church in Hamburg. The third movement, Laetare (Rejoice), is inspired by an vibrant abstract painting comprised of bold colors. The alternation of the blocks of rich color are mirrored in the block harmonic shifts in the movement, which is a moto perpetuo, building towards the organ's fullest sounds. Man that is born of woman hath but a short time to live is one of the central biblical texts dealing with the transitoriness of human existence. Leopold Hofmann, Kapellmeister at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna from 1772 to 1793, where W. A. Mozart was his church music assistant, also set this strongly expressive text. Hofmann's setting, in C minor, offers an austere harmony, characterized by suspensions in a homophonic, through-composed four-part vocal setting (soloists or SATB choir), reinforced only by two trombones and organ continuo. Four concise instrumental transitional passages between the individual verses relieve the pathos laden Viennese church style of this composition. With its tragic air, in some passages it closely resembles Mozart's Requiem K. 626. For this first edition, the two trombone parts are available both in the original clef and in alto clef. The figured bass has been realized so that the piece can also be performed without trombones, with only organ accompaniment. For a performance this piece could easily be combined with the Salve Regina by Pietro Cassati (Carus 27.703) from the Vienna series. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2770500.

STILL. LEBEN Organist Eva Feldbc:ek had been asking me for a long time to write for the organ without the use of iron blocks, extra stopping assistants etc .... unusual difficulties that belonged to my earlier organ music. I setmyselfthe task of Miting a ''handier'' kind of music for the organ. Once I had finished STILL. LEBEN, I didn't think I had achieved what I was looking for. True, the two movements did not involve odd things, but handy isn't really the word for them either. So I wrote the three movements in COUNTERMOVE to tidy up even more. And since I didn't think that was enough either, I wrote the really simple pieces under the title IN TRIPLUM. The three series(eight pieces in all, 2 + 3 + 3) sound very different, but they all take their point of departure from the nature and tonal resources ofthe organ. Everywhere there is polyrhythm or hierarchical layering, polychromaticism, diatonics and melody (the last of these only sparingly and in some of the movements). Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen.

A good six years following its first performance in Milan (1773) a second version of Exsultate, jubilate was completed for a performance on Trinity Sunday in 1779. It has survived in a manuscript from Salzburg. This Salzburg version, which was discovered in 1978, differs from the Milan version primarily through the use of flutes instead of oboes and also through the use of two different texts for the first aria. In the first version the text refers to Christmas, whereas in the second version it refers to the festival of Trinity. Mozart's autograph of the Milan version had been thought to be missing since the second world war and it has only been accessible in the Biblioteka Jagiellonska in Krakow for a little over a decade. The present new critical edition by Wolfgang Hochstein is the first which could be based on both versions. Score available separately - see item CA.4076700.

The five pieces in this collection were all originally written for churches/organs on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. Nantucket and its landscape have been one of the most prominent themes across my entire musical output. Each of the two sets of sketches can be used on its own as a diptych for concert or service (prelude/postlude.) The first set is extremely easy; the second set moderately easy. Any of the four pieces may be played individually. If all four are used together it is suggested that they be kept in the given order. Old North Musings is a separate, slightly longer work. Contents: Two Nantucket Sketches (Idyll & Danza rustica); Two Nantucket Sketches (Set 2: Prelude & Shanty), and Old North Musings.Organ Duration: 18’ Composed: 2018/21 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Joan Cabanilles was cathedral organist in Valencia and the towering figure in Spanish organ music of the late 17th century. His brilliant and diverse musical language, rooted in the traditional sounds of Spain, has not managed to reach a large audience outside the Iberian peninsula, although he is often called “a musician of European statureâ€. The aim of this three-volume Urtext edition is to grant access to his most appealing works. To this end, all available sources in the libraries of Astorga, Barcelona, San Lorenzo de el Escoreal, Felanitx/Mallorca, Jaca and Montserrat have been examined and newly evaluated. If Cabanilles’s oeuvre consists primarily of tientos, organ hymns and versets, the third and final volume contains three versos, three pasacalles, two galliards, two toccatas and such special forms as Paseos de tercer tono, Diferencias de FolÃas and a Jácara.„This is an excellent resource for organists interested in exploring this satisfying repertoire.“ (Brian E. Harlow, Journal of the Association of Anglican Musicians 1/2018)

Debussy's Danse (Tarantelle styrienne), originally for piano and orchestrated by Ravel, is also extremely well suited to performance on the organ. This is shown in this arrangement which has been successfully performed in concerts in several countries by renowned organists. It is now being published in time for the Debussy anniversary year in 2018. The arrangement shows this powerful and spirited Danse, with its typical syncopated rhythms, to its best advantage. The great range of colors offers performers plenty of opportunity for artistic display. The registration markings are intended as suggestions and can easily be adapted to suit different instruments.

,,Bach spielen auf der Orgel (Playing Bach on the Organ) - the eagerly anticipated and logical addition to the new ten-volume edition of Bach's organ works - addresses organists of various skills and interests. It is not a scientific textbook focusing on a comprehensive presentation of the sources; it rather aims to make the fascinating cosmos of Bach's organ compositions accessible and ignite the passion, which is essential for an inspired interpretation. In his capacity as both a concert organist and a Bach researcher, Jean-Claude Zehnder is, like no other, apt to give the reader an understanding of the diverse aspects of playing Bach in a scientifically founded and yet vivid and exciting way. From Bach's organs and questions with regard to the registration practice of his time, via performance-technical aspects to thoughts on text reference, proportions and symbolism, no important subject has been left out. Questions of interpretation are discussed by reference to selected works and round off the compact presentation. A bibliography allows further own research.

Originally one of three pieces for solo organ (Trois Pièces pour Grand Orgue) Théodore Dubois, the majestic Hosannah has been arranged for organ and two trumpets by composer/arranger Richarl Siegel. The piece contrasts stately, chordal sections with more florid (but never complicated) passages, all being brought to a regal conclusion. The trumpet writing is accessible and capable. High school or other intermediate-level players will be able to perform this piece. Optional parts for timpani and cymbal are included, which will add an extra level of brilliance to this fine transcription. It is suitable for any festive celebration. As a prelude on Palm Sunday, this piece would provide a noble opening to Holy Week. As an Easter Vigil or Easter Sunday postlude, it would be a sonic reminder of Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, leading to his triumphant victory over the tomb. For Organ, Two Trumpets, optional Timpani, and Cymbals.
