Russian Romanticism reached its peak with the music of Tchaikovsky, as the three instantly recognizable excerpts included in this uncomplicated arrangement will attest---Symphony No. 4, Mvt. IV, The Nutcracker Suite (Overture), and 1812 Overture. Younger players should have no problem mastering this music, which has been richly scored by Douglas E. Wagner to make even the smallest ensemble sound great. Teachable moments abound in Three Tchaikovsky Themes including the development of full, confident bowing; the awareness of dynamic contrast and contouring of phrases; an opportunity for discussion, with this music standing as an introduction to the memorable melodies and embracing harmonies of this period. Fun to play, and an almost guaranteed hit with any audience!

To mark the 30th anniversary of Mosaici Bizantini Franco Cesarini decided to publish this revised version. He added a few instruments to the instrumentation and completely revised the notation. The work is now available in large-sized full score and exclusively from the composer's publishing house. For this grand work, Franco Cesarini was inspired by three byzantine mosaics, which can be seen in churches in Venice and Palermo. He took the musical motives from Gregorian chants. The mosaics concerned depict the following extracts from “The Gospel according to St. Matthewâ€: 1. The Nativity 2. The Temple of Jerusalem 3. Angel of the Resurrection This new, revised version of this masterpiece will delight both the orchestra and the audience!

In keeping with the efforts of developing a curriculum that fosters Comprehensive Musicianship, this string orchestra arrangement of three of the most popular Renaissance madrigals, will provide your students with a peak into this period of music history that is frequently overlooked. Now Is the Month of Maying, Sing We and Chant It, both by Thomas Morley, and Fair Phyllis, by John Farmer, are basic choral repertoire found in most high school and college full SATB and madrigal ensembles. The string ensemble may perform the arrangement alone with the added Renaissance style percussion. Or, better yet, why not enhance the performance by adding an SATB chorus thereby sharing the stage with your school's most advanced choral ensemble? (5:00) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

The entire piece can be played on the D and A strings for violins, violas, and cellos, while basses play on the D and G strings. A la Rorro Niño (to the boy/special/darling child) is an infant slumber song. Un Elefante Se Balanceaba (one elephant was balancing) is about an elephant balancing on a spider web with more elephants joining as the song progresses; for example, the second verse would be two elephants, the third verse would be three elephants, and so on. Boismortier is considered to be one of the most popular and most hard-working composers of his time. The original title of this sonata in A Minor indicates flutes, violins and other instruments as well suited for performance. The composer arranged the first melody part in such a way that it can be played by an alto recorder without any changes. Scored for string chorus, the sonata achieves a very good tonal effect. With soloistic scoring, three equal instruments (e.g. three violins) or three completely different instruments (e.g. flute, violin, oboe) are best suited for the performance of the upper parts.

This arrangement of The Prince of Denmark March, or Trumpet Voluntary, provides the perfect setting for advocacy and striving for excellence since it is so recognizable. Three different versions of the final 8 bars, containing incorrect notes, are included. Each version contains an increasing percentage of correct pitches. Each represents a different letter grade. Play all four versions and then explain to parents and administration that the A+, 100% correct version is what we do every day in orchestra. All sections play the melody in this piece, still providing a solid musical setting in a novelty piece. Audience members are sure to recognize it which makes it perfect for finding errors. Along with the real music for the final 8 bars, three other versions are included. The first version has 80% of the correct notes and 20% incorrect. The next has 90% correct notes and 10% incorrect. The next has 95% correct notes and 5% incorrect. The final, real version has 100% correct notes. The 100% version should be played first for the audience explaining this version would get an A+ in an academic setting. Then play the 80% or B- version, then the 90% or A- Version, and then the 95% A version. Then explain to parents and administration that the only version that is acceptable is the 100% version and that is what we do every day in orchestra. This provides a perfect advocacy moment to discuss the benefits of music education with parents and a tangible explanation of striving for excellence to parents and students. Includes an educational packet with each part that features technical exercises, history, theory, composition, and more. Correlated to Sound Innovations, Book 1, Level 5. (2:00).

Snowy hilltops, timeless family traditions, and the warmth of a hearth---the atmosphere of a Smoky Mountain Christmas is captured in this arrangement of three traditional Appalachian carols arranged by Andrew Dabcyznski. The simple modal melodies of Star of the East and Babe of Bethlehem are passed throughout the orchestra, before concluding with the stirring spiritual Rise Up Shepherd and Follow. The keys, meters, and bowings are all playable by second-year string students, but intermediate and advanced students also will find this to be a satisfying holiday concert piece. (3:30).

Haydn's three Symphonies nos. 90-92 might rightly be dubbed his “Paris Symphonies Part II,†as they were commissioned in 1788/89, likewise by the Société Olympique, for which Haydn had already composed his six “Paris Symphonies†nos. 82-87 just a few years earlier. Ironically enough, Haydn would later sell these three a second time to Prince von Oettingen-Wallerstein who requested he “receive 3 new symphonies from him.†Regardless of such mercantile entanglements, Haydn shows himself to be at the full height of his mastery as a symphonist in these works. Completed in 1788 according to the autograph manuscript, the Symphony in E flat major no. 91 astonishes, even for Haydn’s standards, with its many idiosyncrasies, such as the Baroque, contrapuntal theme of the first movement or the strings of trills in the slow variation movement. This study edition adopts the musical text of the Haydn Complete Edition, thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. An informative preface and a brief Critical Report make the handy scorean ideal companion for all current and soon-to-be Haydn fans.

With the new edition of the G-minor Symphony, a vital work group in Mozart's oeuvre is now complete: the three late symphonies K. 543, 550 and 551, now available in Urtext editions. As in his new edition of the Hafner Symphony, Henrik Wiese uncovers in the present Breitkopf Urtext score three different stages in the genesis of the G-minor Symphony. Mozart initially wrote the work without clarinets (1st stage), and then he added the clarinets (2nd stage). Not until a final stage did he change the wind instrumentation in the Andante (3rd stage). Mozart thus returned to the 1st version again after completing the 2nd version (with clarinets). This advances the importance of the 1st version without clarinets as Fassung letzter Hand. A compelling insight which sheds new light on the famous G-minor Symphony. Both versions are of equal value and can now be compared with one another, studied and, above all, performed for the first time ever thanks to the new score and parts.Another extremly practical aspect that should be noted: the orchestral parts offer solutions for all the problematic page turns for the first time ever (please see the sample pages of OB 5542 - Violin II.),,... the musical text is fine. This is a valuable improvement. (Clifford Bartlett, Early Music Review)3 Work Stages, 2 Versions, 1 Edition.

Fill your sanctuary with Palm Sunday majesty and excitement with this anthem from Joe Martin. The first of three verses is a lively call-and-response setting of the scripture: “Who is this King of glory?†The contrasting middle verse is an inventive pairing of the traditional hymn tune LEONI with the text “All Glory, Laud and Honor.†The final verse returns the lively theme of the first in counterpoint with drum-like hosannas. An energetic accompaniment that ties all three verses together, whether provided by piano alone or orchestra, makes this anthem the perfect choice for Palm Sunday. (From the cantata Who Is This King? SATB – 55/1096L; SAB – 55/1097L.) Instrumentation: 2 Flutes, Oboe, 2 Clarinets, Bassoon, 2 F Horns, 3 Trumpets, 2 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, 2 Percussion, Violin 1 & 2, Viola, Cello, Bass.
