(2.2.2.2/2.2.3.0,timp,perc,hp,str) SKU: TM.12307SET Composed by Franz Lehar. Set Type: D. Set of parts. Lucks Music Library #A8025. Published by Lucks Music Library (TM.12307SET). Sandra Dackow Little Known Gem - Grade V. Prelude, In Minuet Style, Sarabande, Caprice, Pastoral, Air, Frolic. Containing seven fun to play sections, each movement in An English Suite has approachable technical demands while not being too lengthy. The Prelude is neo-Baroque, where Baroque rhythms are combined with Victorian harmonies. Sounding more difficult than it actually is to play, this movement is busy with violin passages that reach high G's. In Minuet Style has lovely lines for viola and charmingly couples an older form with more advanced harmonic language. The Saraband offers drama and resembles the style and writing of Elgar. There are high G's for both cello and bass, but the passages are logical and fall under the hand easily. Most technically difficult, the Caprice is a diversion requiring precision, speed, and technique to maneuver through changing harmonies and tonalities. The retro Pastoral was written in a manner similar to the Gavotte from Grieg's Holberg Suite, while the Air contains effective alternation of solo notes with tutti textures. The final Frolic movement is a fun fiddle tune that is great for featuring the first and second violin sections. It has also served as a theme song for one of New York's classical music stations. Keep arco accompaniments at the frog and off the string during repetitive rhythmic passages and in pizzicato sections, as they can easily be rushed. $65.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks | | |

Carus Verlag #CV 55.075/09. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5507509). ISBN 9790007226794. Text language: German/English. For the magnificent opening of the oratorio season at the beginning of 1736 Handel presented a composition which, like hardly any of his other oratorios, gave him the opportunity to display his musical artistry: John Dryden's ode Alexander's Feast or the Power of Music, published in 1696, demonstrates the power of music by the example of the ancient hero, Alexander the Great. From the impressive lament on the death of Darius, the King of Persia, to the boisterous Praise of Bacchus Handel avails himself of the entire breadth of the musical representation of the emotions and the possibilities for expression. In the text by Newburg Hamilton added at the end of work St. Cecilia elevates the events of the ancient heathen story, which Handel expressed in plastic, skillful polyphony. Later, this homage to the patron saint of church music, Handel also present the opportunity to perform the work on St. Cecilia's Day (22 November). For the first time the present new edition is based consistently on Handel's conducting score, which he used for his own performances of the oratorio, thus not only eliminating timeworn errors, but also offering clarity concerning the choruses, the arias and recitatives, actually performed in Handel's concerts, as well as their sequence of performance. The new Carus edition offers two performance versions: the version of the premiere in 1736, as well as a revised version from 1751. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Concerto for Harp HWV 294 (CV 55.294) is also possible; Handel composed this work especially for Alexander's Feast (as an illustration of Timotheus, the ancient poet who played the lyre). For this purpose the edition contains the appropriate alternatives for the sequence of the movements. With a total duration of about 30 minutes, Schubert's Mass in B flat major (D 324), written in 1815, is considerably longer than Mozart's and Haydn's classical Brevis masses, and its large instrumental ensemble with strings, woodwinds, brass and timpani even gives it a clearly solemn character. Overall, Schubert was inspired by the late Haydn style of the symphonic mass (e.g., the division into six large movements, the omission of arias for the vocal soloists who are instead juxtaposed with the choir, singing short passages either singly or as a group) without, of course, achieving its temporal expansion. This is a representative, musically appealing work that excels with its multi-layered, detailed text treatment. It is, therefore, suitable for special occasions and the high feasts of the church year and can be mastered well by experienced church choirs. SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 violins, 2 violas, basso continuo SKU: CA.3550214 As a pasticcio by Johann Sebastian Bach, with arias from Hande'ls Brockes-Passion. Composed by George Frideric Handel and fruher zugeschrieben Reinhard Keiser. Edited by Christine Blanken. Arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edition Bach-Archiv Leipzig - Musical Monuments. German title: Markuspassion. Sacred vocal music, Passions, Lent and Passiontide, Holy Week. Single Part, Viola 2. Composed circa 1747. 12 pages. Duration 90 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 35.502/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3550214). ISBN 9790007213459. Language: German. Third version, first performed around 1747 in Leipzig. First version available under 35.304/00. The St. Mark Passion, which probably originated in the first decade of the 18th century, by a composer known until now only as Kaiser, is only preserved in various copies. It occupies a prominent place in Bach's music library as the only music for Passion by another composer which he performed several times, usually in different forms. For the young Bach in Weimar this St. Mark Passion was a didactic piece for learning the art of the modern narrative recitative; as the Leipzig Thomaskantor he also performed it (1726). The present edition reconstructs the third version, first performed in Leipzig (1747), in which Bach inserted seven arias from Handel's famous Brockes-Passion. Only in this pasticcio did a direct encounter occur between him and his famous compatriot in London, a real encounter which Bach longed for, but which never came about.
