,I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote.' (Ton Koopman)
ISBN 9790004331071. 9 x 12 inches.
Ton Koopman's new edition of all 16 organ concertos by Handel has drawn to a close. The quality of this edition has been highly praised from all quarters. Source-critical responsibility goes hand in hand with a high level of performance practice when Koopman provides interpretative tips for the ad libitum passages in the organ part without restricting the creativity of the interpreter who is interested in stylistic matters and prefers to work out his own solutions. I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote. Nevertheless, there are occasional performance suggestions in small print which are elucidated in the Critical Commentary. (Ton Koopman in Concerto) Koopman offers a basically unmarked text, thus leaving the performance details up to the performer. Especially note-worthy is the clear printing, extensive preface and detailed Critical Notes. (Katholische Kirchenmusik) Whoever wishes to hear the entire Koopman edition on CD can look forward to the new recording by Christian Schmitt and the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (Brilliant Classics). This is the first recording for which all 16 new Koopman editions were used as the basis for the performance.

Cantata BWV 127 belongs to the cycle of chorale cantatas which Bach performed in 1724/25 in Leipzig. It bears close links to the St John Passion, which was performed on Good Friday 1725 in its second version. In formal terms and in the interpretation of the text and its orchestration, it is one of the most astonishing vocal works by Bach. The opening chorus, with its multi-layered construction, is nothing less than a preliminary version for the chorale fantasia O Mensch bewein dein Sunde gross. The aria Die Seele ruht in Jesu Handen is distinguished by its exquisite scoring: a solo oboe and the soprano form a duet, whilst the background comprises delicate chords on recorders and continuo, intended to symbolize funeral bells. A solo trumpet gives the following movement particular brilliance. The words Ich breche mit starker und helfender Hand unmistakably anticipate the chorus Sind Blitze, sind Donner in Wolken verschwunden from the St Matthew Passion. New revised edition. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3112700.

This lesson is intended for advanced players looking for ways to voice chords and arrange tunes in ways that sound rich and complex but feel nimble under the hands. We?ll look mostly at arrangements I?ve made of blues and fiddle melodies, and also look at the playing of the remarkable Johnny St. Cyr.We begin our lesson with Ma Rainey?s Yonder Comes the Blues. This is followed by Jelly Roll Morton?s Jelly Roll Blues. Composed in 1915 and was one of the first published jazz compositions. Johnny St. Cyr was a famous New Orleans musician who played both guitar and the six-string banjo. He recorded with Louis Armstrongs Hot Five and Hot Seven bands. He also played with Jelly Roll Mortons Red Hot Peppers. His Guitar Blues is a tour-de-force and challenge for any fingerstyle guitarist. We finish our lesson with the Mineola Rag first recorded by the East Texas Serenaders. Titles include: Yonder Come The Blues, Jelly Roll Blues, Guitar Blues and Mineola Rag Detailed tab/music PDF file on the DVD. 96 minutes. DVD is region 0, playable worldwide.
