Dixit Dominus (Ps 109), a psalm setting for double choir, is one of Vivaldi's most significant sacred works. In it, he takes up the old Venetian polychoral tradition, combining its compositional techniques with those of the instrumental concerto, the cantata and the opera. The broadly conceived cycle of movements, consisting of eight psalm verses and the doxology, is characterized by an expansive arch of tonalities connecting the two framing outer movements in D major (these are also thematically related): Dixit Dominus and Gloria Patri. The contrasting and varied inner movements are perfect examples of Vivaldi's skill in vividly portraying linguistic figures in music. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4000700.

Vivaldi's setting of Psalm 113 (Psalm 114 in the Protestant Bible) In exitu Israel was probably composed in 1739. Strings and basso continuo accompany the homophonically-written vocal parts. The text of this psalm - the longest of all the vesper psalms - was set by Vivaldi in an extremely condensed composition. Despite its brevity, his fine feeling for the emotional content of the text is wonderfully expressed. Even in this one-movement work the composer creates space for variety by not only varying the string accompaniment, but also playing with the keys effectively and sometimes in surprising ways, or hinting at the responsorial style of psalm settings. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4001800.

The Credo belongs to that large group of church works which Vivaldi composed in Venice between 1713 and 1717 for the Ospedale della Pieta, then his primary place of employment. The composition, conceived solely for choir and strings, is characterized by a two-layered formal design: a continuous, basic motivic idea, i.e., a constant rhythmic impulse with rapid tone repetition builds an instrumental layer, while on the other hand the writing for choir renders the text in a blocklike structure in chordal declamation. This structure will only be abandoned briefly in the concluding section of work, where the text Et vitam venturi saeculi is embedded in a concise fugue. Score available separately - see item CA.4000400.

Famous catchy tunes of classical instrumental music have been rearranged for four-part mixed choir in the pop, swing, rock and Latinstyles. This express transfer from the 'serious' world of the original versions into the 'more modern' genres makes us smile - not least due to the not-so-serious texts. Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, Haydn, even Beethoven: Would they have smiled too? You bet! Content text: The Quattro Stagioni-Song (Antonio Vivaldi: Violinkonzert op. 8) Siciliano Bossa Nova (J. S. Bach: Siziliano aus der Flotensonate BWV 1031) Our Little Nightmusic (W. A. Mozart: Eine kleine Nachtmusik KV 525) The Alla Turca (W. A. Mozart: Alla Turca, 3. Satz aus der Klaviersonate KV 331) Fate of Beethoven (L. van Beethoven: 5. Symphonie op. 67) Elisa's Dedication (L. van Beethoven: Fur Elise) John the Bastian (J.S. Bach) Kettledrum Song (J. Haydn).
