Jeuz d'enfants was originally written in 1871 as a Suite of twelve pieces for piano duet. Two years later, Bizet scored five of the pieces for orchestra to create a Petite Suite. Each movement shows Bizet's enormous skill as a miniaturist, the music exuding a concentration of power and atmosphere. Wit, warmth, charm, beautiful melody, vivacity; all of these, and more are abundantly evident. No wonder Jeuz d'enfants has been rated as a little masterpiece. The main theme of this composition was created on a clear, starry night on the 10th of August. While writing it, the Italian composer Angela Ciampani was inspired by her son Lorenzo and the sight of stars over the green hills of Umbria. Initially, it was a short solo for trumpet and piano: subsequently, Jacob de Haan extended and rewrote the composition for euphonium solo and band. This arrangement was created for the celebration of the 170th and 20th anniversaries, respectively, of the concert bands of Monteleone d'Orvieto and Citt della Pieve.

Die italienische Komponistin Angela Ciampani wurde bei der Komposition durch ihren Sohn Lorenzo und die Spuren der Sternschnuppen über den grünen Hügeln Umbriens inspiriert. Was ursprünglich als kurzes Solostück für Trompete und Klavier konzipiert war, wurde später von Jacob de Haan erweitert und für Solo-Euphonium und Blasorchester neu geschrieben. The first movement of this work, an Allegretto, begins with a fanfare-like opening. After a number of other melody lines, a reprise of the beginning follows, which ends in a cadenza for the soloist. Movement two, titled Rituel, is characterized by interplay between the soloist and the band within a stately melody. In the final movement, the theme of the first movement’s opening returns. As the indication ‘alla marcia’ of the last movement suggests, this Allegro Giocoso contains march-like music that guarantees a lively conclusion.With Concertino, Kees Schoonenbeek has written an appealing work that is very suitable for a beginner soloist. It is also available for trumpet andpiano.

The first of two trumpet solos Smith wrote for Carl Doc Severinsen. If you have a trumpet player par excellence, then this piece is for your soloist and band. It begins with a dramatic opening followed by an Allegro. Smith then weaves in the blues for the soloist to play a wonderful lyric melody first, followed by an opportunity to adlib with the chord progression. The accompaniment is a grade 3.5, but the solo is most certainly a grade 6. Also available for trumpet solo and piano.

RICHARD AND RENÉE (2009) is a two-part gift to the composer’s friends, conductor Richard Floyd and clarinetist Renée Kershaw. Movement I is “Renée’s Reply” to Erik Johnson’s marriage proposal when the two were visiting Pann in Positano, Italy. Movement II is “Floyd’s Fantastic Five-Alarm Foxy Frolic,” a joyous ragtime two-step featuring the inventive exuberance that has garnered great excitement for Pann’s music.

Carl Vine's Piano Concerto No. 1 (1997) is one of three large-scale works composed with pianist Michael Kieran Harvey in mind---the others being his first two piano sonatas. Vine describes it as a conscious and continuous tribute to the piano concerto as a medium and historical entity, a fact most apparent in the slow movement, with its long melodic lines evoking both Ravel and Bach. This 25-minute concerto is cast in the familiar three-movement form, with fast outer movements framing a central slow movement. The outer movements share some material (particularly in some lively conversational interchanges between piano and trumpet), and also some typically pianistic glitter across the orchestra, with harp and glockenspiel ensuring that the piano is less of an outsider than might have otherwise been the case.
