The work, originally titled Berchtolsgader-Musik, goes back to the Cassatio ex G by Leopold Mozart, whose movements 3, 4 and 7 are identical to the Kinder-Symphonie [Children's Symphony]. For a long time, the authorship of the work was uncertain. It was attributed to Joseph Haydn and his brother Michael, at times also to Edmund Angerer and Leopold Mozart's pupil Johann Rainprechter. The work probably first received the designation Kinder-Symphonie in 1813 through an edition by the music publisher Hofmeister. In the Children's Symphony, a cuckoo, a quail and other unusual instruments are used in addition to the usual orchestral scoring. These belong to the Berchtesgaden instruments: flutes, whistles and rattles carved from wood, manufactured in the Berchtesgaden region and widely used as children's toys throughout the country. Today, these instruments can also be replaced by flutes, whistles as well as ratchets, rattles or bell trees. The piano versions of the Children's Symphony have been part of Breitkopf's orchestral materials for over a hundred years now. They are not merely piano parts, however, but full-blooded reductions for piano twohands or four-hands.

Mozart's last symphony offered editor Cliff Eisen a clear-cut basis for his work: its autograph score is the sole authentic source to have survived. In order to remain as close as possible to the performance practice of Mozart's time, the editor has tried to keep as much as possible of the composer's idiosyncratic notation style, since a consistently modernized music text would hardly allow any conclusions on the interpretative nuances envisioned by Mozart. The preface confirms the brilliance and expertise of Mozart expert Cliff Eisen, who offers a wealth of fascinating findings on interpretation, genesis and early reception.Mozart's last symphony offered editor Cliff Eisen a clear-cut basis for his work: its autograph score is the sole authentic source to have survived.

Whether for first editions or not the primary sources of Beethoven's works always have to be interpreted with great expertise. The editor's knowledgeability is the decisive point when it comes to the level of quality of a new edition. And both Clive Brown and Peter Hauschild are setting standards. On the whole, it was a good idea for Breitkopf to give itself time with these editions. The difficult feat of doing justice to the needs of performers and to philological scholarship has been carried off at a level that raises the standards to an almost frighteningly high level. (Peter Gulke) In the case of the First Symphony, Clive Brown reaches an optimal balance between source criticism and performance-practical requirements. Interpreters and scholars appreciate the source criticism for performance practice that Breitkopf cultivates not only in its Beethoven editions. In the case of the First Symphony, Clive Brown again reaches an optimal balance between source criticism and performance-practical requirements.

With his organ symphonies, the composer Enjott Schneider (born 1950) from Munich has been a profound sensation in recent years and seen world premieres at major European organ events. The Organ Symphony No. 6 'Te Deum' (premiered at Bruckner's St. Florian above Bruckner's tomb in 2008 and recorded there on CD) adopts the five-part structure and several motifs from Bruckner's 'Te Deum', thus becoming a forceful compact work pervaded by the Gotteslob. 1: 'Te Deum' is based on Bruckner's original figuration of fifths and eighths which is connected with the Latin Te Deum; 2: 'Te Ergo' is a 'preghiera' with pleading and praying gestures; 3: 'Aeterna fac' is an extremely virtuoso perpetuum mobile; 4: 'Salvum Fac' a basso ostinato and finally 5: 'In te, Domine speravi' a toccata which, after taking many detours, inevitably leads to the C major.

The twelve “London Symphonies†comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn's symphonic ouvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon, and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. Probably composed in the winter of 1791/92, the Symphony in D major no. 93 was, with its easily accessible (butby no means simple!) musical structure, perfectly tailored to London tastes, which demanded melodic clarity and expressive pathos. The Baroque echoes of Handel in the slow introduction to the first movement and in the festive mood of the finale with its timpani and trumpets would have been well received - no wonder the symphony had to be repeated multiple times in the same season after its performance in 1792! This study edition adopts the musical text of the Haydn Complete Edition, thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. An informative preface and a brief Critical Report make the handy score an ideal companion for all current and soon-to-be Haydn fans.

“The Symphony No.39 In E Flat K.543 was finished in Vienna on 26th June 1788. Together with the symphonies in G minor and C major Jupiter (all three were composed in less than a month), it marks the summit of Mozart's achievement in symphonic form. Although this symphony breaks no new ground as regards the use of orchestral instruments, it is nevertheless one of the first examples of modern orchestration, because the resources of each instrument and the various combinations of timbre are here exploited with great skill. This miniature score is an excellent resource for perusal or private study of this work.â€.
