This volume brings together Schönbergs complete works for piano solo, and thereby presents a wide span from the free atonal pieces of op. 11 to the aphoristic op. 19, the fascinating tone-row experiments of op. 23 to the dodecaphonically conceived works op. 25, 33a and 33b. Additionally, in the appendix, three pieces from 1894 by the twenty-year-old composer provide an astonishing insight into the late-romantic roots of the modern Schönberg. His compositional development can be easily traced in this edition, which incorporates all kinds of milestones of classical modernism alongside thrilling, trailblazing music. Anyone wanting to engage with Schönberg's piano works should not miss this compendium!

What with all the traditional editions available on the market, can we still expect new readings? This is what editor Clive Brown asked himself as he meticulously examined the often conflicting sources. The result is a wealth of new readings in the score, which deserve as much attention as the extensively commented arrangement for violin and piano. The treatment of the solo instrument is particularly interesting: next to the Urtext solo part, the edition also contains a historically informed and marked-up part with fingerings and bowings that go back to Franz Clement, the soloist of the premiere performance, and to the Viennese performance tradition of Beethovens time. For violinists of today, this is a treasure trove of new, innovative ideas and suggestions for the individual shaping of the part.

The musical effect of Prarie Lullaby should be graceful and serene, evocative of a peaceful night on the open plains. To that end, players will need to strive for an unlabored rhythmic flow, smooth bowing and a clear, steady tone as close to p as possible. Beginning at m.39, the violin and viola parts are marked pizzicato. If young players are unable to return quickly to argo at m.53, they may make the bow preparation easier by taking a full measure rest at m.52. This option is marked in the parts and score. The divisi notes at m. 69 are provided for ensembles which lack violas. Ensembles with violas may have them play the lower notes while the second violins play the upper notes. Percussion, which is completely optional, should be very subdued. Choose a bell mallet which allows the tones to be heard just above the strings. the woodblock part is intended to imitate the clip-clop sound of a horse's hooves. Two different sizes of woodblocks or temple blocks are needed. Finding two suitable sounds on one woodblock is difficult. Again, the right mallets are very important. The suspended cymbal should be played with brushes if the string ensemble is small. If the suspended cymbal with brushes cannot be heard above a large number of strings, then sticks should be used instead. The percussion part can be performed by one player, provided the instruments and mallets are set up properly and the player has the skill to make the transitions smoothly. Note the optional rest at mm. 53-54. After Volumes IV and III of the series with Mozart's complete string quartets appeared as Henle Urtext editions in early 2017 and 2019 respectively, Mozart expert Wolf-Dieter Seiffert now presents Volume II. Included are the “Early Viennese Quartets†from 1773, K. 168-173. Entries in the autograph manuscript by the composer's father Leopold, however, suggest that the ordering of the six works into a unified series of quartets was his doing. In his preface, Wolf-Dieter Seiffert shares brand-new findings on the actual chronology of the genesis of these quartets. Moreover, he succeeds in correcting what in prior editions were occasional inaccuracies in dynamics and articulation, thereby producing a new, assured musical text. With artistic input from the Armida Quartet, Volume II of the String Quartets also sets the benchmark in the Mozart Edition! Contents: String Quartet in F Major, K. 168 String Quartet in A Major, K. 169 String Quartet in C Major, K. 170 String Quartet in E-flat Major, K. 171 String Quartet in B-flat Major, K. 172 String Quartet in D minor, K. 173.

“Memory of a dear place†is the title given to this collection of three enchanting pieces for violin and piano. The “place†in question was the country estate of Brailov that belonged to Tchaikovsky's patron and friend Nadezhda von Meck. He stayed there in idyllic seclusion in May 1878 and completed this work. These pieces were composed very close in time to his Violin Concerto, and they too demonstrate Tchaikovsky's matchless gifts as a Romantic master of melody. For this edition, the Russian Tchaikovsky specialist Alexander Komarov offers the highest degree of editorial precision, having drawn on all the relevant sources from both Russian and international archives. In the course of his work he has also been able to disprove beyond a doubt the view held up to now that the title Souvenir d'un lieu cher was only added after Tchaikovsky's death.

This volume brings together Mozart's youthful attempts at this later so central genre of the string quartet: the astonishing “Lodi Quartet†K. 80 by the only fourteen-year-old composer, the three “Quartet-Divertimenti†K. 136-138 which are also readily played by chamber orchestras, and Mozart's first true string-quartet cycle K. 155-160 which was composed during his third (north-)Italian journey in 1772/73. Mozart's cleanly written scores of all the compositions have been preserved so that the edition stands on a secure foundation. In his informative commentary, Wolf-Dieter Seiffert, the experienced Mozart editor at G. Henle Publishers, devotes a separate, comprehensive explanatory section to the well-known articulation problem “dot or wedge.†The Armida Quartet provided artistic input for this edition.

The twelve “London Symphonies†comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn's symphonic oeuvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon, and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. To this day, the G-major symphony, first performed in March 1792, numbers among Haydn's most popular works. It owes its English nickname “Surprise†to the striking tutti chords in the Andante, which apparently caught the audience off guard. Haydn had consciously incorporated this effect at a later stage - and was thus subsequently also perfectly willing to authorize this nickname that had been dreamt up by a London musician. This popular work also spread rapidly through German-speaking countries, where it is still firmly established in the repertoire as the “symphony with the drumbeat.†This study edition adopts the musical text of the Haydn Complete Edition, thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. An informative preface and a brief Critical Report make the handy score an ideal companion for all current and soon-to-be Haydn fans.

The occasion for the composition, described as a âsuite in the old styleâ, was the 200th birthday of the Norwegian-Danish poet Ludvik Holberg (1684-1754), which was celebrated in Bergen with several festive events. Initially, a piano version of the work was written in August 1884, but the composer already had the arrangement for string orchestra in mind, which he made just one month later. As a starting point, Grieg chose baroque dance movements from Holberg's era, but skilfully combined them with elements of his own tonal language, such as chromatic progressions and dynamic swells. The orchestral version of the âHolberg Suiteâ, which was very successful right from the beginning, is still one of Grieg's most popular compositions today and now enriches the Henle programme for string orchestra.

About Suzuki Method
The Suzuki Method is based on the principle that all children possess ability and that this ability can be developed and enhanced through a nurturing environment. All children learn to speak their own language with relative ease and if the same natural learning process is applied in teaching other skills, these can be acquired as successfully. Suzuki referred to the process as the Mother Tongue Method and to the whole system of pedagogy as Talent Education. The important elements of the Suzuki approach to instrumental teaching include the following:an early start (aged 3-4 is normal in most countries); the importance of listening to music; learning to play before learning to read; -the involvement of the parent; a nurturing and positive learning environment; a high standard of teaching by trained teachers; the importance of producing a good sound in a balanced and natural way; core repertoire, used by Suzuki students across the world; social interaction with other children. Suzuki students from all over the world can communicate through the language of music.
