Originally commissioned as the set test piece for Section B of the 2007 European Brass Band Championships The Drop was re-worked and extended as The Drop: Remixed for Leyland Band to perform at the 2008 RNCM Festival of Brass in Manchester. Brass Cinema is a work containing many extremely descriptive melodies and atmospheres inspired by the fascinating world of film music. It was commissioned by the Swiss Brass Band 13 Etoiles to celebrate their 30th anniversary and is a cinematic masterpiece that will be loved by both performers and audience alike.

'New York'... or to be more precise Manhattan. For anyone who is familiar with this bizarre and wonderful city this piece needs no explanation. This brass band transcription has been made by Phillip Littlemore and provides a driving and punchy 4 minute work for brass band. 'New York' is the third movement of 'East Coast Pictures' originally written for wind band commissioned in 1985 by the British Youth Wind Orchestra with funds from National Westminster Bank plc. These three short ‘pictures’ were inspired by several visits by the composer to a small part of the USA’s East Coast an area that provides great extremes in the geography and the people.This work has recently been recorded on the CD ‘East Coast Pictures’ by the Leyland Band conducted by Michael Fowles and is available from this site (catalogue number: 0-571-52109-6).

Another World’s Hell was commissioned in versions for brass wind and fanfare bands by the Société Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises and the Association Cantonale des Musiques Neuchâteloises for the 2013 Swiss Cantonales festivals. It is inspired by a passage in Aldous Huxley’s classic 1932 science-fiction novel Brave New World which  describes in unusually close detail the music that is being played at a dance. The music uses Hergé?s story from 1950 ? almost twenty years prior to the first ever moon landing - following Tintin and his fellow adventurers as they become the first humans on the Moon. The sky creates a dazzling display of yellows oranges and reds before turning a calm blue then purple and finally black. Such sunsets inspired Jan de Haan to write this piece for solo Flugelhorn and Brass Band. It is dedicated to his daughter Hermanda.

Shackleton s Cross was inspired by a painting created in 1957 by the English artist Edward Seago (1910 1974). The title refers to a cross which was erected to the memory of Sir Ernest Shackleton who led a number of explorations to the Antarctic. Shackleton died in 1922 whilst on a Polar expedition and the cross can be found on a promontory at the entrance to the bay at Grytviken Whaling Station in South Georgia. The painting is owned by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and was part of an exhibition at Buckingham Palace from October 2011 to April 2012. Originally scored for oboe trumpet and small orchestra Daniel Hall s sensitive arrangement fortrumpet or cornet and brass band follows the composer s alternative version for solo trumpet and organ created for Crispian Steele-Perkins (trumpet) and David Goode (organ).

for Bb Flugel Horn (or Bb Cornet) and Brass Band-Belvedere is a beautiful solo for Flugel Horn or Cornet and is partly taken from City Scapes a concert work that was inspired by Central Park in New York City. The title Belvedere refers to ‘Belvedere Castle’ erected in 1869 and radiates the peaceful atmosphere of this place.

For Brass Band-Ian Wilson was born in Belfast in 1964 and obtained the first D.Phil in composition to be awarded by the University of Ulster . His music has been performed and broadcast on six continents. About Seascape with high cliffs he says: ?the piece was inspired by a visit I made some years ago to the Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland. The cliffs are hundreds of feet above the swelling sea with the Aran islands in thedistance barely visible the day I was there. Seabirds were floating in the strong breeze below me.?
