Bars 282-285 or not? To this day, it has been impossible to ascertain exactly how Mozart wanted to end his Overture for a concert performance. Bastiaan Blomhert's source-critical new edition, which makes use for the first time of authentic performance material revised by Mozart himself, gives the conductor the freedom to choose between the two plausible alternatives. Johann André’ s concert close, the standard ending for nearly two centuries, went down in history as a historically legitimated version.

Joseph Addison is not particularly well known; he was English, a classical scholar, essayist, poet and politician, but one of his hymns was used by Benjamin Britten. in his setting of a Thomas Tallis canon. The hymn is singularly beautiful and being a composer always inspired by extramusical stimuli such as poems, nature, paintings, I was immediately convinced when I carne across the Addison hymn, that here was exactly what I wanted to use as my major source of inspiration for this piece, commissioned by and written for The Berlin Philharmonic. I don't refer to the hymn in its entirety, but have chosen the following 3 excerpts, all acting as mottos for the first three sections of the piece, thus turning the piece into a straightforward tonepoem in the classical.

The thoroughly edited scores follow essentially the first edition printed by John Walsh in London in 1729. Baston was regarded as an excellent recorder and flute player who worked with London opera orchestras in the early 18th century. His easy concertos anticipating the elegant melody of the early classical period enjoy great popularity representing a rewarding task for music school orchestras and advanced recorder players.

In Poseidon, commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington and Mstislav Rostropovich, Bergman turns to the Greek god of the sea and lord of the earthquake as a symbol for primaeval power and the wellspring of creativity. In the ocean depths - the subconscious - power stirs and rises to the threshold of consciousness. It projects itself into the second movement's eruption of energy, after which follows recovery and calm. Composed in 1992.
