Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909) wrote his suite España (Espagna), Op. 165, also known as Seis Hojas de Album (Six Album Leaves) for piano in 1889, with the first performance taking place on June 7th of the following year, at the Steinway Hall in London. Each of the six movements recreates a traditional Spanish dance or evokes Spanish folk music. Famed American violinist, composer, and pedagogue Samuel Dushkin completed this arrangement for violin and piano that included three of the movements: 1. Malagueña, 2. Canción Catalan (or Capricho Catalan), 3. Tango. The middle movement is here presented alone. Reprint edition.

Dorothy and Phyllis Nash are mentioned in the “London Concerts†section of the June 1914 edition of Musical Times following a performance at Steinway Hall on 30 April earlier that same year. Dorothy was credited as pianist and composer, Phyllis as violinist. In 1915, Schott London published the duoÂ’s Deux Pièces pour violon avec piano and both Dorothy and Phyllis signed the original contract, dated 8 March 1915, transferring copyright of the work to Schott. Using a pseudonym was not uncommon at the time when this work was first published, especially for female composers, and Deux Pièces was published under the name “D. P. Nashâ€, keeping Dorothy and Phyllis' initials.

In this sonata, calm passages alternate with extremely lively ones in traditional style. The piano plays in chordal style most of the time as real accompaniment, with polyphonic ensemble playing not being given special emphasis. The sonata is characterized by melodious cantilenas of the violin, intricate rhythms and almost symphonic tonal eruptions alike. The piece demands great technical skills while actually seeming to be easy to grasp.Mustonen is one of the virtuoso pianists-composers of the younger generation. In his works, he often refers to the history and culture of his home country Finland. He performed the world premiere of his Violin Sonata with the young Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto in London in April 2013.

An imaginative first violin book, featuring 12 music sketches with fingering and tips on technique and reading music, inspired by the composer's experience teaching a young boy named Peter, and the musical pictures they painted together.Composer and critic Cyril Carr Dalmaine graduated from the Royal College of Music and was Music master at Uppington School before going on to become chorus master to the BBC. He is most famous for coining the term 'Lord Haw-Haw' in his work as radio critic of the Daily Express under the pseudonym Jonah Barrington, in reference to the Nazi propaganda broadcasts of William Joyce during the Second World War.Dalmaine was also a record presenter in the pre-1955 days and responsible for the 'discovery' of the then deceased Italian tenor, Alessandro Valente, giving Valente enjoyed a considerable posthumous vogue. As a composer Dalmaine wrote chamber music, and transcribed the cantatas of J.S. Bach to piano as well as a wide range of piano and string works published by Forsyth. His works such as Variation from Versailles and Pathway to the Proms remain in print and are well worth re-discovering, while his arrangements of popular classics in our Silhouette Series remain best sellers.

Hatikvah (The Hope) is a 19th-century Jewish poem and modern-day national anthem of Israel. In this romantic-style arrangement, Ben Andrew shares the melody between both the violin and piano. Through the use of subtle dissonance and a rich harmonic texture, the music conveys a sense of struggle, despair and sadness, as well as the eternal hope expressed in the original poem upon which the music is based. Perform this piece in your ABRSM Violin Grade 8, or Trinity College London Violin Grade 7 exams.

Dating from 2015, this work was a commission from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Radio France and New York Philharmonic. Its dedicatee is Frank Peter Zimmermann, whose performance suggestions have been incorporated into the score. Cast in a single 25-minute span, the concerto falls into three movements, plus cadenza. London's Financial Times commented,...there is no lack of technical discipline. The atmosphere, though, is brooding...a panoramic vista opens up of dark clouds over forests and lakes, of repressed passions and baleful desires..

Popular song by Andrae Crouch Staying true to the original, this fresh setting gives the choir an opportunity to sing a heartfelt anthem of praise and personal thanks for the things God has done. The optional violin part underscores the earnestness of the message.
