| Dans les ruines d'une abbaye Choral SATB SATB, Piano [Score] - Intermediate Carus Verlag
SSATB Choir, Piano - Level 3 SKU: CA.925200 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Ar...(+)
SSATB Choir, Piano - Level 3 SKU: CA.925200 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Denis Rouger. Separate edition to the CD. Secular choral music. Full Score. Op. 2, No. 1. Duration 2 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 09.252/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.925200). ISBN M-007-24914-4. Key: A major. Language: French. Text: Hugo, Victor. The exuberant amorousness of a newly-wed couple pulsates in every note of Gabriel Faure's Dans les ruines d'une abbaye (In the ruins of an abbey). In this piece, the reverent silence of prayer no longer prevails, but within the venerable walls various shouts of joy and sparkling laughter are now heard. The old graves have long been overgrown by stinging nettles, and a new dawn of spring and of love fills the air. Napoleonic post-revolutionary France, which drove the author of the poem, Victor Hugo, into exile, is also building a new world on the ruins of olden days. Although the setting by the composer, 40 years younger than the poet, uses the romanticized backdrop of the old abbey, with its 6/8-meter it reflects the uninhibited happiness of the two lovers, who do not look back. These art songs were originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted them to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing the any of the qualities of the original in the process. Each part in the choir has a melodic line drawn from the harmonic and rhythmic framework. In the process, the variety and refinement of the choral language combines with an enormous flexibility in form and expression, as French melodies or German art song demand from a soloist and pianist. The songs have been recorded by the figure humaine chamber choir on the CD Kennst du das Land ... (Carus 83.495). $4.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks | | |
| Au bord de l'eau Choral SATB SATB, Piano [Score] - Intermediate Carus Verlag

SSATB Choir, Piano - Level 3 SKU: CA.925400 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Denis Rouger. Separate edition to the CD. Lieder, Secular choral music. Full Score. Op. 8,1. Duration 2 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 09.254/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.925400). ISBN M-007-24916-8. Key: C sharp minor. Language: French. Text: Prudhomme, Sully. In Au bord de l'eau (By the water) two lovers sit as in a dream, removed from the real world with all its conflicts. They only take themselves seriously, the surrounding nature lies as beneath a dream-like veil: steadily like the river flowing by, the passing clouds, the babbling brook, time also passes. The poet Sully Prudhomme, the first Nobel prizewinner for literature (1901), ends the poem with the assertion that only love is immortal. With this knowledge, Gabriel Faure's setting turns from a dreamy, deceptive C sharp minor to a more promising C sharp major. These art songs were originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted them to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing the any of the qualities of the original in the process. SSATB Choir, Piano - Grade 4 SKU: CA.928000 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Denis Rouger. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Fleur jetée. Full Score. Composed 1885. Op. 39,2. Duration 2 minutes. Carus Verlag #928000. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.928000). ISBN 9790007299330. Key: F minor. French. Text: Silvestre, Armand. This setting of Fleur jetée is often called Fauré’s Erlkönig. The hammering ferocity of the piano accompaniment and the drama of the song in fact recall Schubert’s musical setting of Goethe’s ballad Erlkönig. However, in Armand Silvestre’s Fleur jetée, it is lost love to which it is dedicated. Just as a flower, carelessly plucked and thrown away, is blown by the wind and withers, so the wind carries the “madness†of the unhappy lover away and lets his heart wither. The writer Charles Marie Rene Leconte, born on the French island of La Reunion, published his literary works under the nom de plume Leconte de Lisle (the Count of the island). | A Farewell Wish Carl Fischer
Choral alto 1, alto 2, solo Voices, soprano 1, soprano 2 SKU: CF.CM9768 C...(+)
Choral alto 1, alto 2, solo Voices, soprano 1, soprano 2 SKU: CF.CM9768 Composed by Z. Randall Stroope. Duration 3 minutes, 19 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #CM9768. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9768). ISBN 9781491160343. UPC: 680160923298. Key: G major. English. About the WorkThe text of this work is most often attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson, although it doesn't mirror his style, and no research credits an essay, book or letter with its source. Other individuals are occasionally suggested as possible authors, but equally unsubstantiated. Even whether the textis a poem or a quote seems unclear. But there is one thing that is without question: that this beloved text has inspired countless people and contributed toward a view of the world through eyes of hope, resilience, courage, beauty, and joy. Music for this text flowed more easily than about any text I have ever set. It has an emotional connection that is mystical, and after I read it for the first time, I immediately sat down and wrote this work without stop.Rehearsal NotesIn many cases, art is more expressive and reaches a wider range of human emotions when multiple artistic fields are fused together. Such is the case with choral music: the intertwining of literature, music, and very often dance, visual arts, and more. The story in choral music is often quite specific, much like film scoring. At times, the music is the picture frame (score) around the picture (text), while at others the music is the leading dramatic/emotional impetus. In the present case (My Farewell Wish), the text is sincere, innocent, heartfelt, and earnest. By all accounts, the message is altruistic, expressing selfless desire for another's present/future happiness. Capturing this message has a strong reliance on the performers to not only carry the emotional intent of the moment (a phrase of text or a measure), but the the energy and continuance of the message throughout. The use of the [o] vowel functions almost as instrumental interludes or underpinning of strings. The conductor may use the [o] as indicated in the score, or a [u] vowel, a hum (with [o] as the vowel inside the mouth), or all three at different times for different reasons. In an acoustical performance (no mic), the soloist and the ensemble are a reflection of each other's natural sound. And, even gentle, warm solo voices should have no trouble projecting. Two final thoughts: 1) the obbligato or added voice or two on high passages (m. 66) or a single note (final chord) will be best delivered by lyrical, pure voices with demonstrated control; and 2) the metronome marking of 80 bpm (mm. 1–81) was strongly considered and should be followed.About the ComposerZ. Randall Stroope is an American composer and conductor. His composition teachers were Normand Lockwood and Cecil Effinger, both students of the Nadia Boulanger, the famous French teacher (and student of Gabriel FaureÌ). Randall is the artistic director of two international summer music festivals, is an Honorary Board Member of the NationalAssociation of Italian Choral Directors, and has conducted in 25 countries. He has directed over 40 times at Carnegie Hall, and is a frequent conductor at other prestigious concert venues. Carus Verlag #927900. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.927900). ISBN 9790007299316. Key: G major. French. Text: Silvestre, Armand. Over three verses, Aurore describes the approaching dawn through an intensifying piano accompaniment: shining out like fading stars, the short quarter notes in the first verse in G major give way in the second verse to a rippling sixteenth note accompaniment in the minor key. Shimmering harmonies allow the first rays of sun to shine in glistening drops of dew, and the dreams escape “like a light swarmâ€. The third verse returns to the key of G major, full of promise: the new day awakens with its promise of love and beauty.
