Life has loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things, Blue waves whitened on a cliff, Soaring fire that sways and sings, And children's faces looking up Holding wonder in a cup. Life has loveliness to sell, Music like a curve of gold, Scent of pine trees in the rain, Eyes that love you, arms that hold, And for your spirit's still delight, Holy thoughts that star the night. Spend all you have for loveliness, Buy it and never count the cost; For one white singing hour of peace Count many a year of strife well lost, And for a breath of ecstacy Give all you have been, or could be. --Barter from Love Songs (1918) by Sara Teasdale Sara Teasdale (1884-1933) was an American poet whose short, personal lyrics are noted for their classical simplicity and quiet intensity. All music is sound, but not all music is simple. Simplicity is a virtue, especially in the arts, a fact which becomes increasingly and inescapably obvious to me the older I get. In Sound and Simplicity four out of the sevenmovements are very simple (as in the absence of any structural and metric complexity) indeed, in fact the second movement Trance, a sustained chord, employs only four notes, but gradually presented over three octaves.

British composer Frank Bridge is mainly remembered for his beautiful chamber music. The Four Pieces from 1912 are originally for Violin and Piano and are titled:1. Meditation2. Spring Song3. Lullaby4. Country DanceMr. Sauer has done a beautiful job scoring these works for Euphonium. There is a wonderful simplicity to Bridge's music, a simplicity that was lost forever just two years later at the beginning of the Great War, WW I. Bridge's most famous composition student was Benjamin Britten, who wrote one of his greatest works as an homage to Bridge.

PULSO DE LA VIDA was composed as part of my dear friend Kostas Tosidis' doctoral thesis with the title Bowing technique on the guitar. The character of the piece changes from simple and meditative to rhythmic and tension-filled, reflecting different stages of our lives.Using a C, G, D tuning for the bass strings, the guitar utilizes resonance to create sustained, cello-sounding melodies on the fourth string, complemented by harmonies on the fifth and sixth strings. The bowing technique is introduced with a continuous tremolo accompanied by an extended form of the first theme. The more dancelike and rhythmical part of the piece uses a 19/16 measure that allows us to experience a sense of disparity. Finally, the simplicity combined with a sense of completeness, but also of abandonment of the beautiful gift of life, leaves us in a state of stillness for any kind of introspection.PULSO DE LA VIDA a été composé dans le cadre de la recherche doctorale de mon cher ami Kostas Tosidis, sous le titre Bowing technique on the guitar (technique d'archet àla guitare).Le caractère de la pièce passe de simple et méditatif àrythmique et plein de tension, reflétant les différentes étapes de notre vie.

Karelia Suite, Opus 11 is a concert suite taken from an 11-movement work that Sibelius composed using Finnish folk music. The two selections in this arrangement are the Intermezzo and Alla Marcia and have a naive peasant feel to them with their simplicity. Karelia was one of the composer's favorite parts of Finland.Intermezzo is a bouncy march in Allegro as is the Alla Marcia which has a few key change surprises, adding a real kick to the movement. All parts are in bass clef and the parts are appropriate for moderately advanced performers. This arrangement is about 9 minutes in length.

Bruckner's Pange Lingua motet, composed in 1868 is a hymn by the thirteenth-century theologian, St. Thomas Aquinas. The setting of the simple hymn is chorale-like, with the same music used for all three verses, and a lovely Amen being added to mark its finish. The text haunted Bruckner since his early years and he wrote a few settings of it during his lifetime. The music with all of its simplicity has some unexpected dissonances. Mr. Sauer's lovely arrangement of about 3 minutes in length is appropriate for moderately advanced performers.
