Telemann's cantata Now thank we all our God cannot be assigned to any of the composer's known annual cycles of cantatas. The given designation, Tempore Messis, which appears in the title in the sole surviving source, suggests it was composed on the occasion of a harvest thanksgiving festival, but the general nature of the text means that other occasions for performance such as New Year, Reformation Day, church or organ consecrations and weddings are conceivable. Musically, the work is distinguished by two spirited choral movements reinforced by trumpets which frame a duet for tenor and bass and an aria for alto and transverse flute. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3910900.

Of all his symphonies, Mahler gave the Fourth, his favorite and problem child, his most particular attention. The Heavenly Life, a humoresque composed in 1892 for soprano and piano, which he already wanted to use in the final movement of the Third Symphony under the title What the Child Tells Me, ultimately became the nucleus and final movement of the Fourth. Even after publication in 1901, Mahler kept repeatedly refining the orchestration. His maxim not without my retouching led to a whole series of revised reprints. It is probably no coincidence that Mahler performed especially the Fourth Symphony in his last two New York concerts in February 1911, using this opportunity to review once again the score and parts. This performance material with his retouching served as the main source for the new edition. Furthermore, included for the first time were corrections and annotations in conjunction with performances of the Fourth, which Mahler entered into the scores of conductors such as Mengelberg and Wickenhauser. PB 5664 has been awarded the Presto Sheet Music Award 2020.

The cantata Auf, auf, ihr Herzen, seid bereit was composed for the fourth Sunday in Advent, most certainly during Homilius's tenure as Kreuzkantor in Dresden between 1755 and 1785, although a more precise dating is not possible. The author of the cantata text is unknown. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3720700.

The opportunity to compose this piece came to me during my second year as a composition student at Texas Christian University. A family from Big Spring, a small town in West Texas, reached out to one of my high school choir directors, Ms. Kathryn Zetterstrom, and asked if she knew any composers for a project. Thankfully, she sent them my information. The project was created specifically to celebrate the 80th birthday of Jobeth Corwin, the family's matriarch. For the text, the family asked me to set her favorite psalm and a psalm loved by many: Psalm 121. Jobeth Corwin was a lifelong chorister who sang the alto part in any choir she was a member of, so to start the piece, I began with a solo intended for an alto voice. While this is my preference, the solo can be sung by any treble voice.I sincerely hope you enjoy this piece and it brings joy to all who hear and sing it!

The cantata for the 20th Sunday after Trinity. Ah! I see now, as I to the wedding bidden, BWV 162 was first performed on 25 October 1716 in the Castle church at Weimar. During the first year in his position as Thomaskantor, Bach made a revival performance of the cantata on 10 October 1723. For this Leipzig version he added an additional obbligato voice in the first movement and in the final chorale he added a Corno da tirarsi, which played colla-parte with the soprano. However, we do not know what this mysterious instrument looked like. For performances today we recommend using a trumpet or a slide trumpet. The cantata begins not with an introductory chorus, but rather with a sonorous bass aria with a string accompaniment and obbligato trumpet. The following movements, movement 2 through 5, are also performed by vocal soloists. The third movement, a soprano aria, presents a peculiarity: the obbligato wind parts were not contained in the original version of this cantata. Our edition offers a reconstruction for the flute, made by the famous Bach interpreter and expert, Masaaki Suzuki.

In what can be described as Game of Thrones meets thunderous Brahms, this tour de force for advanced string orchestra features a driving theme set in 12/8 meter. The lyrical middle section features cello and bass soli with delicate harmonics and a lush, sweeping countermelody in upper voices before returning to the opening theme for an aggressive ride to a victorious finale. Lush textures, gorgeous harmonies, and powerful motifs offer the ambitious orchestra an unforgettable adventure, both challenging and immensely rewarding.

The Carus critical new edition is the very first edition of the Grabmusik which is based on Mozart's separate autographs for movements 1-6, and 7-8, respectively. The fact that the final movement also contains two horn parts which have never appeared in print is an absolutely sensational discovery. Now the work may be again performed using Mozart's last, original instrumentation. Score and part available separately - see item CA.5104200.
