Continuing on the success of the popular Compatible series,Compatible Duets for Strings, Volume II contains 29 duets in avariety of styles (classical, folk music, new original pieces) thatcan be played with any combination of two string instruments.Students can develop their chamber ensemble skills whileplaying with their friends, no matter what string instrumentthey play. Ranging from grade levels 2–3, Compatible Duetsfor Strings, Volume II is perfect for orchestra directors to buyfor use in the classroom, and its flexibility makes it a musthavefor any string player. Having students play in small chamber music groups is a very beneficial exercise to improvethe student’s overall musicianship. The simplest form of chamber music is the duet. It is anopportunity for the student to play with a teacher or to play with another student of similarabilities. Aspects of playing such as tone quality, intonation, technique and ensemble skillscan be developed during the process of studying duets. These duets are different in that they have many different performance options since all ofthe books in this series are compatible. As former long time music educators we alwayshad student that wanted to come to the music room during lunch or after school and theyjust wanted to play with their friends. That was not possible since there is very little duetmaterial available that is compatible with all of the string instruments. This book and thefirst volume in the series takes care of that. A student can now grab their friend no matterwhat instrument they play and have hours of fun playing duets together. Most importantthey will learn something in the process. The duets have been generally placed in the book in order of difficulty and cover a rangeof keys that are appropriate for this ability level. Special care was given to making surethat both of the duet parts were on a similar ability level and that each line was givenan opportunity to play a lead role at some point during the arrangement. Also, most ofthe musical markings are attached to both systems and the point size of the music wasconsidered for ease of reading. It is our hope that this collection will help to stimulate and enhance the musicianship of theperformers. It was a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to put together this collection. We hope it is a useful tool for you for years to come. $14.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Piano SKU: HL.50601464 Weihnachtsbaum, Années de Pelerinage, Troisieme Année and other works. Composed by Franz Liszt. EMB. Classical. Softcover. 216 pages. Editio Musica Budapest #Z14763. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (HL.50601464). 9.0x12.0 inches. Supplement Volume 14 of the New Liszt Edition contains mostly unpublished early versions of piano works from the last two decades of the composer's life. The bulk of the volume comprises pieces from Volume 3 of Années de pelerinage and the Weihnachtsbaum cycle. Of the latter, two complete early versions are extant. One of these consists of pieces which are shorter and more condensed than the final version. For performer and listener alike, it is an exciting experience to become familiar with this set of pieces in its early form. Among the individual pieces in this volume, the autograph version of the beautifully evocative Schlummerlied im Grabe is also published here for the first time. Finally, Liszt's characteristically economical attitude to composing can be studied in the original form of what can be considered as the common starting point for La lugubre gondola I and II. The latest volume of the New Liszt Edition also contains a detailed preface in German, English, and Hungarian, including new results of research, five manuscript facsimiles, and critical notes. Along with the cloth-bound Complete Edition, a paperback version for practical use has also been published. This edition's contents are identical to those of the hardcover edition, except for the omission of the critical notes. $59.00 - See more - Buy online

Piano - intermediate SKU: BT.EMBZ15079 The Bartók Performing Editions-Instruktive Ausgaben von Béla Bártok. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. EMB Music of Bela Bartok. Tuition. Book Only. Composed 2019. 148 pages. Editio Musica Budapest #EMBZ15079. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ15079). English-German. Bach's Wohltemperiertes Klavier was Bartók's first instructional publication, divided into four books. Bartók became a professor of piano at the Budapest Music Academy in 1907, and it was probably in this capacity that he was entrusted with preparing a Hungarian edition of the set of pieces. His basic idea was that students learning independently without adequate guidance should receive sufficient directions from the music to perform the works. As a consequence Bartók's score is deliberately over-detailed.For pedagogical reasons the composer ignored the original order of pieces, and compiled the material according to grades of difficulty, dividing it into four books. Thepresent edition presents the Bartók Wohltemperiertes Klavier in two volumes, each containing two books. One interesting feature of the Bartók edition is that two of the fugues in both book III and book IV are written out in full score, to accustom the pupil to score-reading. For some pieces he deliberately refrained from providing performance indications, to give pianists an opportunity to exercise their creativity. The current edition is not a reprint: errors we know of have been corrected, and the layout of the score has been re-arranged keeping in mind the need to turn pages. This edition which includes Bartók's detailed comments is complemented by facsimiles of Bach's manuscript and an afterword by László Somfai. $43.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SKU: HL.50610016 Liszt, Works for Piano Solo, Supplementary Vol. 8...(+)
SKU: HL.50610016 Liszt, Works for Piano Solo, Supplementary Vol. 8. Composed by Franz Liszt. EMB. Hardcover. 232 pages. Editio Musica Budapest #Z14503. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (HL.50610016). Supplement 8 of the New Liszt Edition contains first versions of Hungarian Rhapsodies Nos 12-21 and two shorter Liszt pieces with a Hungarian connection. All works in the volume appear here for the first time in a scholarly edition. This version of the Hungarian Rhapsodies ensued in 1846-50 from Magyar dallok (Hungarian Songs) Nos 1-11, published in Supplement 7. Piece No. 13 is based on the Rákóczi March, which Liszt set on several occasions. It had been a vital encore piece since his first concert in Hungary in 1839. Inclusion in this volume of the first version of the piece known as the Mosonyi Funeral March (a forerunner of the much later No. 7 in the Hungarian Historical Portraits) is especially notable as its autograph manuscript only emerged recently. A detailed preface in Hungarian, English, and German, including new research results, numerous manuscript facsimiles, and critical notes, makes this volume of the New Liszt Edition an important publication of immense scholarly value. Along with the cloth-bound Complete Edition, a paperback version for practical use has also been published. This edition's contents are identical to those of the hardcover edition with the exception that the critical notes are not included. CONTENTS: 1. In late September or early October 1821 Schubert and his close friend, Franz von Schober, vacationed in the countryside of Lower Austria. Their first stopover was at Ochsenburg Castle, which belonged to the Bishop of St. Pölten (a close relative of Schober’s), after which they moved on to St. Pölten itself. Roughly a year earlier, two stage works by Schubert had been performed in Vienna: the one-act singspiel Die Zwillingsbrüder and the melodrama Die Zauberharfe. The librettos were both written by the seasoned Viennese playwright Georg von Hofmann, who blamed the press for the indifferent reception the two works were given by the audience. Schubert and Schober now decided, it would seem, to write a grand romantic opera uninfluenced by the workaday world of the theatre and beholden solely to their own ideas of what an opera should be.
Not until 24 June 1854 was the opera finally performed in Weimar, under the baton of Franz Liszt. It only achieved success, however, in an arrangement by Johann Nepomuk Fuchs that was staged on many German and Austrian stages in 1881–2, allegedly with brilliant acclaim.

Edited by Bettina Schwemer. This edition: urtext edition. Paperback. Barenreiter Urtext. Volume II: Concertos VII-XII. Score, anthology. Opus 4. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA07567_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA07567). ISBN 9790006544097. 31 x 24.3 cm inches. Preface: Schwemer, Bettina. Antonio Vivaldi’s twelve concertos op. 4 known by the name of “La Stravaganza†were first mentioned as a collection of “Concerti a 4†in the 1711 Foreword of “L’Estro Armonico†op. 3. Their publication had to wait until 1716, when Estienne Roger issued them in two volumes of six concertos each. However, unlike the original announcement, “La Stravaganza†is more than a collection of concertos for solo violin with string accompaniment: in five of the concertos the soloist is joined by a second solo violin or even by a solo violoncello (Concerto No. 7).
The many reprints of “La Stravaganza†bear witness to its popularity and widespread dissemination well into the 1730s. Besides the surviving prints, there is a significant body of handwritten sources containing alternative versions for seven of the concertos. Some of these manuscripts stem from the music library of Johann Georg Pisendel.
This edition of “La Stravaganza†is not only the first scholarly-critical edition, it is also the only complete edition available. In addition to the twelve concertos handed down in the Roger edition, Bärenreiter offers an additional concerto in full score, piano reduction and parts contained in the 1728 print issued by the English publishers Walsh & Hare, as well as alternative versions (without viola) found in handwritten sources for Concertos No. 6 (Volume 1) and No. 11 (Volume 2).

The CD-ROM of RISM series A/I: Individual Prints before 1800 makes available the world's largest source collection of printed musical works for the first time in electronic form. The CD-ROM offers scholars, musicians, librarians and music antiquarians - in short, all people and institutions that work with musicalsources - significant assistance for researching historical musical prints. For the CD-ROM, the contents of the nine main volumes have been converted into a database and expanded with new entries from the supplementary volumes. Composer names, library sigla and catalogues of works have been matched with the standard versions used in series A/II: Music Manuscripts after 1600, brought up-to-date and linked with the corresponding authority files. The contents of these authority files, with many cross-references, precise citations and library adresses, often with a link to their website, are now available to users. In addition, keywords relating to genre and, where possible, instrumentation, have been included. In total, the database contains over 100,000 entries.
The advantage of the CD-ROM lies in its ability to search all titles using terms in a full text search and separate indices. The search functions are far superior to what is traditionally available in a book index. Answers can be found to questions such asWhich operas were published in London between 1711-1759?andWhich single prints by Joseph Haydn were published by Artaria?
- All entries are displayed in full text and are oriented in structure to thetitles in the printed volumes. - Transferring text to a separate document is possible. - Display on a standard browser

| Organ Works Organ [Score] Breitkopf & Härtel
Organ SKU: BR.EB-9304 Urtext - Critical Source Edition of the Free Org...(+)
Organ SKU: BR.EB-9304 Urtext - Critical Source Edition of the Free Organ Works. Composed by Dietrich Buxtehude. Edited by Harald Vogel. Solo instruments; Softbound. Edition Breitkopf. Renaissance/early Baroque; Baroque. Score. 108 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9304. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9304). ISBN 9790004187685. 12 x 9 inches. This edition is the result of Harald Vogel's many years of practice as an organist and musicologist. The music text is based on a reevaluation of 17th- and 18th-century manuscripts containing the free organ and keyboard works by Buxtehude. They originated during a transitional phase between the traditional letter tablature and the staff notation still in use today. Since many works have survived only in transcriptions for staff notation, the editor was confronted with a high error rate, which he carefully analyzes in the Einzelanmerkungen. During the preparation of the edition, the editor always kept sight of the performance practice, but still, the image of the sources is never distorted (e. g. by superfluous rests, beaming not conforming to the sources and the unhistorical adjustment of time signatures) and stays very close to the compositional notation, the letter tablature. The flexible use of three staves and the differentiated distribution of the voices on the staves allow for an approximation in reading conventions of historical notation with its resulting information about hand division. Grouping the free organ repertoire into works with obbligato pedal and works for manuals, this edition is organized in two volumes. The first subvolume (I/1, EB 9304) contains the Preface and the Preludes, whereas the second subvolume (I/2, EB 9305) contains Toccatas, Ostinato works, alternative versions and a comprehensive Critical Commentary (in German only). Volume II (EB 9306) contains Buxtehude's free organ and keyboard works (manualiter) with the corresponding texts (Preface and Critical Commentary).Until 1971, Harald Vogel worked on a dissertation (with Georg von Dadelsen, Hamburg) on Die Fuge um Bach. Besides the description of the inclusion of triple measures into the C notation and the irregularities of the voice mutation in the polyphonic structures, this also included a discussion about the justification of the inner textual criticism. With the inner textual criticism, deviations in parallel passages are unified. The North German fugue style, reaching a peak in Buxtehude's work, is characterized by a constant diversity of details in subject and polyphonic progressions. One of the indicators of the fantastic style is the dissolution of the polyphonic structures at the ends of the fugues, evident in Buxtehude's work.In this edition, a musical text is presented that avoids the uniformity of detail not conforming to the sources. However, there are many examples of transcription and cursory errors, which are analyzed in a methodical systematic manner. About the editor: As an organist, professor, organ expert, and scholar, Harald Vogel has rendered outstanding services to the interpretation of early music and especially to historical performance practice concerning the organ for decades. He has received numerous awards, including an ECHO Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year (2012), honorary doctorates from Lulea University of Technology (Sweden, 2008) and Oberlin College (USA, 2014), as well as the Buxtehude Prize of the City of Lubeck (2018). Harald Vogel is the author and editor of numerous scholarly publications and editions. Through his lifelong performance practice, he can look back on an extensive discography, including the complete recording of Buxtehude's organ works, which he recorded in various locations with historical organ instruments of the North German organ building tradition in Scandinavia, North Germany and the Netherlands.

| Cajkovskij Pi Piano Works(1875-78) Ser6/69a Schott

(KL) SKU: HL.49041045 Piano works. Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This edition: Full-cloth binding. Sheet music. Edition Schott. Score and critical commentary, complete edition. Composed 1875-1878. 262 pages. Schott Music #NCE1069-10. Published by Schott Music (HL.49041045). ISBN 9783795794453. 10.25x13.25x1.07 inches. Petr Iljitsch Tschaikowsky, whom Igor Stravinsky charakterized as being 'deeply national', represents the culmination of 'Russion Classical music' of the late-eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Probably the most versatile of Russian composers, he made great and lasting contributions to all genres - operas, ballets, incidental music, symphonies and other orchestral works, chamber music, piano music, sacred and secural choral music, romances, Lieder and folk-song arrangements - establishing a special place for Russion music within the European tradition. Publications of the first complete edition of Tschaikowsky's works was started in the centenary year of his birth, 1940. Publication of a second edition will begin in 1993, the centenary of his death. There are important reason, both editorial and in terms of content, for a second edition to follow so soon. In the old edition, ideological considerations meant that some of the texts which Tschaikowsky set to music were arbitrarily altered. Similarly, quotations of the old Russian national anthem were replaced by other music. A number of works, or independent versions, werde completely overlooked. For example, the full score of the opera 'Vakula the Smith' (the first version of Cerevicki) and the unfinished Symphony in E flat major werde not standardized; in some cases no textual analysis was offered, and critical apparatures were simply dispensed with. The new complete edition will remedy these shortcomings. In addition to the composer's final versions, it will include alternative and earlier versions of works, as well as fragments and incomplete works, all reproduced faithfully from the sources. Documentation and discussion will be provided in Critical Commentaries. Piano reductions exist of the stage works, concertos and concertante pieces as well as of some of the cantatas and orchestral works, either written by Tschaikowsky himself, or revised or authorized by him. These are all to be included in the edition which, with its historico-critical approach, will address the need both of scholars and of practical musicians. The edition of musical works (Serie I-IX) is supplemented by a facsimile edition of all of Tschaikowsky's surviving sketches (Serie X), the texts of his diaries, writings and letters, including the three-volume Tschaikowsky-Mekk correspondence (Serie XI), a two-volume catalogue of works and a single-volume Tschaikowsky Encyclopaedia (Series XII). $244.00 - See more - Buy online
