Concertino for Bassoon and Wind Ensemble was commissioned by Eastern Michigan University Bands and premiered by the EMU Wind Symphony with Christine Prince as solo bassoonist in April, 2004. The version with piano accompaniment was premiered at the 2006 International Double Reed Society conference. It is a dramatic, one-movement work that showcases the performer's lyricism and technical facility.

Mosaicos was commissioned by the International Double Reed Society as part of their 50 for 50 Commissioning Project, in which they commissioned 50 new works for double reeds to celebrate their 50th anniversary. It was premiered by bassoonist Monica Ellis, founding member of the Grammy-nominated wind quintet Imani Winds, at the 2022 IDRS Conference in Boulder, CO.

Olav Berg (b. 1949 in Kvelde, Norway), studied with Antonio Bibalo and Lennox Berkeley. Initially he worked as a trumpeter in the band of the Norwegian Royal Navy, later he lectured in musical theory at the conservatory in Stavanger. Since 1981 he has been a self-employed composer. In 1995 the Sonatine was premiered by Dag Jensen in Rotterdam at the annual meeting of the International Double-reed Society, he recorded the work on CD for the Dabringhaus & Grimm label.
